Not only are the users MMO players, but they are also so lazy that when they are not plying they are posting on here. This is a unique creative idea, how effective it is, I (as well as most of you) would not know because we are all probably, at best, of average build and health (except for you damn kids who are 120lbs and can run a marathon without ever training...I hate you ).
Hehe speak for yourself, as a Scaffolder I'm as fit as a Butchers dog, so even though I play an MMO and have done for many years, my work means I'm burning off whatever fat I've gained in those few hrs after work that I've managed to put on, then again when you have a wife who is also super fit and gives you the evils for sitting down too long your never really going to be putting much weight on now are you.

What shape? A square shape? People misunderstand living a healthy life with torturing yourself in the gym to have sexy abs you have to consistantly update or they lose form, because they are not used.
Such a paradox society in so many levels... glad that the awakening process is taking place. But it didnt seem it hit the geeks yet :P

25% body fat or over is obese. It is scientifically an unhealthy amount of fat to have on your body.
That's the shape you are looking for.
People arn't dumb. Fat guys arn't trying to get a washboard body, they know that will probably never happen for them. They do have to torture themselves at the gym though if they need to lose 10% body fat whilst staying nutritionally healthy. You ever tried to lose 2-3 stone of fat? It's not bloody easy.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
If this is true, I find this very creepy and disturbing.
Think about it - you play in a virtual world, chase virtual stuff, do some virtual exericse on your desk instead of talking a walk in a park or go jogging? I have no hope for humanity if people buy and use such a hamster wheel table.

For most people the true torture is having to change everything they know about food, but I agree with you. I always get a kick out of people who tell me they had a healthy lunch and when I ask what they ate they tell me they had the chicken sandwich and sweet potatoe fries with a small soda. The majority of people have absolutely no idea WTF they should be putting in their body. I remember training a neighbor as a favor and I walked in on her dipping sun chips into a hot pocket and scooping out the innards like dip. I got so pissed I could hear my heart beating in my ears.
As for the OP... I'm a fan of anything that gets people healthy and in shape, so I can't say anything negative about this.
This looks suspicious as to how it was the reason for coming to be in existence.
The product looks like a prototype and not a high quality finish that a person would expect from blizzard.
I think what actually happened was that on reddit a few people talked about using tread mills while video gaming, and maybe one of them was a wow player. Yet never did I hear them mentioning using a wow related product. It seemed all home made customizations. So blizzard embellished a little by offering this product.
Except, using tread mills can be bad compared to walking regularly. Buts its better than jogging on a treadmill which is bad for the knees. So walking should be alright considering how it helps.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
that is very nice. However, i dont need to spend a bunch of moneys for a gaming thread mill. I got a stationary bike that i use while gaming with my lovely gamepad. But its indeed a nice thing. Excercise is important for blood circulation and staying healthy.
Somebody mentioned a loss of intensity. That person is telling the truth. You should exercise and you should do it seriously. Not while distracted by stupid mmo's

If you're at the point in your life where you would consider having something like this, I don't think intensity is a consideration whatsoever. The fact that they're willing to do something for their health should be encouraged. You shouldn't be dissuading them in any way. Maybe they're not comfortable going outside to exercise. You can't push people too hard too fast or they'll likely just quit. You need to know when to push them, and doing so when they're so out of shape both physically and mentally to resort to something like this is not the time. Let them have success with something like this to build their confidence to give them the courage to move on to the next thing.
I'm pretty sure the creator of this is the same guy who posted about making a makeshift play area/treadmill on mmo-champion.com a few years ago. If I remember correctly, this player said he could heal fine in heroic dungeons but he didn't have the functionality to comfortable heal in raids.
But anyways, if it works for him and any other people, good for them. I find exercising by myself extremely boring and I need to watch tv or listen to the radio to get my mind off of the monotonous tasks (I grew up playing sports where exercise was disguised as a fun game surrounded by my friends). I would be willing to try something like this. We have to exercise anyways, might as well make it fun.
I am sad there is some hate in this posts comments... I think it is pretty clever. Ideally people wouldn't need this sort of thing but whatever works works!
I have a hard time motivating myself to exercise as much as I want too, and so does everyone I know.

1 hour of walking is every bit as good at staying healthy and losing fat as 15 minutes of more serious exercise is. You'll just need to do the less intensive exercise 4 times as much, and there's no reason why you couldn't replace intensive exercise with it.
As long as one doesn't get all his exercise purely by walking. Everything in moderation is better for body than going to extremes in some direction.
EDIT: Before someone attacks my suggested 4:1 replacement ratio, it's just an example. Correct replacement ratio varies from person to person depending on exercise intensity, weight, etc. factors /EDIT
I don't see how there is anything negative about this. It's not just for gaming and as the link says it's focused on desk dwellers in general. As someone who sat behind a desk for 12 years I wish more places has them. Human beings are not designed to sit for hours a day no matter the reason, "Hi deep vein thrombosis? It's me heart come on over". Honestly if every person just walked an extra hour a day outside normal activity that would be great.
Gaming, MMO or otherwise, is getting unhooked as it is and for the betterment of all. In the next few years we should see a further change in this outside Kinect and Wii.
As for losing weight, if you truly wish to lose weight, you'd remove all distractions from your workout... playing a video game, talking on the phone, or watching tv affects your intensity. If you're going to work out, work out. The reason you packed on all those pounds is because you took on a casual lathargic sedentary life. I don't know how many people I see at the gym sitting on equipment barely doing anything but fully engaged in reading some book, watching tv, or chatting it up. Counter-productive to say the least. This gimmick doesn't get you to work out because you're focused more on the game than on the workout.
Honestly, if they had that sort of determination, they wouldn't be looking at a product like this. You aren't the target audience, so really there is no purpose in you commenting on it.
If you sit down at a MMO for 2-4 hours a day and even casually walk, those calories burned will add up to a significant number over weeks and months.
For instance, lets say we have a 200lb male walking at approx 2.5mph (normal walking speed) for 2hrs a day. That's approx 500 calories burned a day. If he plays a videogame 2 hours a day 5 days a week; he'll have burned off 2500 calories.
That's abit over 2.5lbs of lost weight per month(decreasing as he loses weight), or 25-30lb a year... a hell of a lot better than sitting on your ass and losing nothing.
Now imagine the numbers for someone who is truly overweight, maybe 300+. Now imagine he plays more like 4 hours a day. That's a huge potential for losing weight just by walking while playing a videogame.

this, but then again i know people who dont have anyhting else than just gameworld. but somewhere along the line of their life string they made that decition. so maybe those people this is good. but to me it's hokum.
Draemos, you make a valid point. The problem unfortunately is your taking a literal liner path on the calorie burn. The main struggle with any weight loss is the diet, your assuming that they will never over eat to destroy those calories burned, also there is not way to say they burned 500 calories per day.
If your doing a seriously low intensity level(how hard or easy since there was confusion earlier about this word) treadmill session you will not burn anywhere near 500 calories. Most machines do a very inaccurate reading on the calories you burned as well.
Becoming fit, or just healthy will always start in the kitchen first. Which is the single biggest hurdle that most people I have worked with have to struggle over, for a variety of reasons.
You see companies sell you ab workouts, what they don't tell you it's 80% diet, do a thousand crunches a day, go run everry day, and you will not have a 6 pack without the proper diet. There is a saying, your body is made in the kitchen not the field.
I realize we are just talking about a healthy lifestyle, and any start is a good one, but its important there is some practical structure to it. You want it be something attainable and not gimmicky.

The screen is too small.
:-)
We have a couple of these at work. I'm not sure how many people use them, but enough people use them that they keep them.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
