Why is there no great MMORPG out there now?
It's not that hard to have a good one.
Like GuildWars & Warcraft3.
GWs has potential to be phenomenal. But they're geared towards <15yr olds. Same with WoW.
They should have some servers just for hardcore...& Diablo2 has some great features like weapons
* random maps
* in& out players.
Looks like D&D0 is going to be crap. I might pay $5/mo for it but not more.

hmm topic is really very subjective.
The answer is this : The creator of games are all in rush to make money, so they dont develop the game to it's maximum potential and release it way too soon, getting bad review, people send them hate letter , Get desperated, The dev dont listen to the player and only watch the money come in , and the game become crap!
yea thats true.
they need to hire people that know what they're doing

MMOs Retired From: Earth and Beyond, Project Entropia, There, A Tale in the Desert, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, City of Heroes/Villains.
MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.
MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan.
It depends how you judge a great game really. Besides could an mmo really be randomly generated?
yea, that's why i'm not paying a monthly now.
some randomness is good.
I've posted on the suggestion forums and I haven't received a lot of support.
Like with GWs. A few days work and it could be so much better!
I think the developers don't always read the forums.
Is the population really low on EQ1+2? Cause WoW is popular & makes it fun, but EQ2 is more for the hardcore.
GOOD GOD DEVELOPERS WHY ARE YOU GOING BACKWARDS?! YOU ARE REMOVING, NOT ADDING!
Recently, all mmorpgs are repeating themselves.
If you look at all new mmorpgs they all have the exact same thing.
The only difference is the name and the graphics.
That rose online that came out awhile back. It came to be the same stupid thing, level up find some weapons from monsters that are little better than the ones from the store and be the best online.
Rose online isn't the only one doing this. Almost every single new mmorpg that is being created is the exact same concept.
It's like some guy made a template of an online mmorpg.
"Change the graphics and host!"
I don't really understand how come companies can't think of their own stuff too. Every game has that private market stand. Once it was created in one game it went to every single game possible. It's almost like cellphone companies thinking of new ideas for their phones. "Walkie talkie feature, great!" then one after another every cellphone company adds it to their list to bring in customers.
I'm almost referring to The Domino theory, just take out the whole communist ideal.
What do you mean by you can enter and exit instances whenever you want? Last I checked, you could do that in Guild Wars.
I also somewhat disagree with random environments, it makes them seem a lot less inspired and less appealing to the eye, some are also supposed to have the pathings set up the way they are as the developers intended so everything plays out right. I can understand that some would like a unique experience each time they enter an instance though.
Just for the record, imo, Guild Wars isn't a true mmo, so I don't like comparing other mmos(like WoW and EQ) to it.
Guild Wars was compared to Diablo2 in this post, and I think its a good comparison.
The town in Guild Wars is the list of servers in Diablo2. But at least in Diablo you can exit and enter servers that were not full. In Guild Wars you are STUCK in a server (group of players), until you FAIL or get so fed up with scammers you voluntarilly leave.

the comparision between GW and Diablo2 is fair, the only thing thats a but bothering is that Diablo2 came out years before, and I still enyoy that game far more than GW...
GW is pile of crap... no offence towards the GW fans, but how can you play something as mindnumbing as GW?? when you can play a real MMORPG such as Lineage2, EQ2, EVE or even WoW.

There are, so I think this sentence should go "I can't find myself a MMO which I think is good".
Sorry, but this sounds to me a bit contradicting to your first sentence. Warcraft 3 is an MMO? Also I actually enjoy playing GW and last time I checked I was over 15, actually close the double.I have nobody on my buddylist who is under 20. And yes, I think of the game to be fun and relaxing. Not as a "main" game, but then and when its a nice change of pace. The same with WOW. I only met a 12 year old once. All the other people I came into closer contact with were over 18. Those games are not geared toward <15 year olds, it's more like that because of the good accessibility they are easier picked up by younger players than maybe other MMOs. While we could discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of GW and WOW endlessly, I think its safe to say that those games had a broader audience in mind than the one you were picturing. Also we are ignoring the fact that a lot of people even say that GW is not an MMO (to which I partly agree). For hardcore what? Harcore PVP? Hardcore PVE? Hardcore Trading? Hardcore Mining? Hardcore Movies?
And Diablo2 has "features like weapons"? A very special feature indeed.
Random Maps work for Diablo and some other similar games, but only to a limited extent in MMOs. You'd need to make the game world revolve around the randomness to make it a logical part of the world, like eg a world dominated by forces of chaos, or some horror themed game where you have to live through nightmares (quests) to advance.
In&Out players? Well, the MMOs I played were joined and left by players all the time. And if you mean casual gamers, then I can assure you that MMOs for them exist too.

good points. a MMO is as good as you think it is, and there is not one single MMO thats good without your effort to make it fun to play. the creators only set the rules and designs the world, its up to the players to create the rest.
remember that next time u bitch at a MMO

UO and EQ were good mmo's at the time but the constant expansion packs ruined them, as they do for other games out there. hmm
Do you really need to bring up Lineage 2 in every topic even if it doesnt have anything to do with it?
Anyway, I find Diablo 2 to be more fun then Guild wars aswell, ALOT more fun even, if they would make an mmorpg with the same game mechanics it would sell big time, but I guess blizzard is putting and pulling all their money out of World of Warcraft for the moment.
ok stupid question..

Not much known about it yet, but I think it will be released for the Xbox 360, not sure about PC.
MMORPG's went in completely wrong direction.
Instead getting better , having more options they are trying to stream line them and make it more acceptible to wide masses.
I can understand the economic interest but they made a big mistake.
Good MMORPG takes a long time to make - in my oppinion not less than 3 years of development for a real good product.
Two of such products exist EQ2 and WOW. But they are both streamlined and simple. Designed to get lot of fun and fast - but not having any long term appeal.
And now the market is burned - and we will have to wait 3 years for the next try....lets hope companyes will get smarter.
