I played a trickster rouge in the second closed beta for this game and had no problems soloing mobs from the intro all the way up to level 5. However, I rolled a Guardian Fighter for the release of open beta because I was hoping that this would be more defense, less attack power, etc like a tank in most games. I found that I was using way more potions keeping my Guardian Fighter alive than I did with my rogue. This could be because of the higher dps of the trickster rogue, but I thought it would all equal out with the higher defense of the guardian fighter. I am going to keep playing the Guardian Fighter with the hope that the class will get tougher with higher level, new skills, changes to the game, me learning to play the class better. Does anyone else think the Guardian Fighter is too Squishy?

not at all.
Are you blocking and moving?

Yesterday I played a guardian fighter till lvl 9. Had no problems. The potions were enough and I even could spare some for later. Blocking is impotant and moving as already mentioned. Lag kills the game. Makes it unplayable. I also usually killed the weaker mobs (archers etc.) first and then the big ones. Helped to reduce damage. Only mob where I neede 2 potions was some guy named Kravok? Not sure about the name anymore.
Unfortunately snce then I had no luck logging in again. Either timeout to account server or a huge queue. Guess they want us make to buy a founders pack or something for priority log in. Whatever, I have patience.;)
Karzov LOL
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
I am getting closer towards level 30 now with my Guardian and have the Cleric companion.
I hardly use any potion at all anymore. I have like 40 health potions sitting in my inventoring... continue to grow.
Only during solo boss fights I might use a potion or two. But that's it really.
Next to stacking lots of defense, I am also stacking a lot of Power and Crit to improve the damage output.
I've fought a GF in the PvP arena (healer here, but I had the backup from a CW) and they're extremely hard to beat higher up in the levels. Don't know how they play in lower levels, but as said, later on you're a tank the way they're supposed to be.
15 minutes lvl 29 PvP movie I made (me being healer and 2nd best in general score at the end ). Might be worth to watch since there's also a GF there that's constantly giving us a pretty hard time...

Yeah, my potions are pretty much just addign up.
I did use them in the cloak tower instnace which I "duoed" (soloed?) with my cleric companion. Gratned I was two levels above the level requirements but some of the fights took quite a while with some room for me to screw things up.
@op, also note, you can attack while blocking. I wouldn't "just" hold down shift and block and attack as your guardian bar will go down quickly.
Still, you can get some damage off while you block.

If you learn the timing of attacks (and compensate for lag), you can block nearly everything, especially once you learn your block attacks. As a guardian fighter, I almost never need any potions at all.
