You are comparing games with a limited play time to games that have been around for years. WoW at launch was not even close to perfect, it had a lot of issues. In fact name one game that had a huge fan base try to access it where there were no problems at launch?
As far as the cash shop goes, I played last night and only saw some skins and other utility items that don't give you an edge over other people. Bag,character, mount slots and some other nick knacks. If the price is too steep for you then don't buy anything. I usually just go by what a normal P2P sub would be, I keep to $15 a month worth of cash shop stuff or sometimes don't spend anything.
You do know that lying about a F2P game doesn't work right? Cause people can try it out and see how mistaken you are about almost everything that's been said in here.
I'm not lying. Everything I posted I either experienced myself or it was word of mouth through my friends that were also playing. What do I have to gain by lying lol?
Man threads like this and the OP make me laugh. It's like some of you kids have no idea what an MMO launch is.
Warhammer Online? 3 hour queue
Aion Online? 13 hour queue
World of Warcraft? 17 hour queue
And those are just some of first ones to come to mind, every MMO has queue's. GW2 had to almost literally invent a new tech to get around queue times. There common, yea they suck, but its not that bad. And they'll go away as the standard looky loo's and terrible gamers leave. Every game has that.
Also WoW was TERRIBLE at launch. Perma bugged looting like being stuck in loot position FOREVER. Rubberbanding, constant crashing etc. Some servers went down for days while they tried to fix it. It was so bad they gave everyone almost a month in free days.
What boggles me the most is the bitching abour free 2 play. You KNOW that your going to have pay money eventually. It would be litterally impossible for them to make a game totally free, the studio would be bankrupt in a month. But the game lets you enjoy all aspects for free.
This is the price everyone pays for the incessent whining about subscription models. I can't wait for another few years when everyone is crying and begging for subs to come back.
I'm struck dumb by the thought that only founders can create a guild. Seriously? So if I wanted to make my own guilld it's gonna cost me $60? I have to buy a founders pack just for that?
Why is that not in "The Ugly" section? In fact, why is that not in the "Are You FUCKING SERIOUS" section?
I'm sorry, I'm trying to articulate what I'm feeling and I just can't form the words. It's just..... seriously? I'm having problems believing this.
You don't have to be a founder to create a guild.
Thanks for clearing that one up. I was about to lose all faith in MMO developers. I just couldn't believe it.

I believe you have to be one to create a guild before level 15.. or at least that's what we were told.
he found out that the creator needed to be a founder.
LIE
I chose my starting zone on the map while making my CM and yet I spawned in Neverwinter just like all of my other friends.. I'm assuming that's a bug or I end up there later on in the game but I was curious what was the point of the choice at all if it doesn't really impact anything. In GW2 when you create your character's story, the decisions actually somewhat impact your quests and whatnot.
This isn't GW2. They never said you had multiple starting zones. They are asking where you're from. Fluff/RP stuff.
Skirmish Rewards: So after logging in a second time around, a pop-up came up urging me to run a skirmish. I joined a que, waited 10 mins and got into the thick of things. After killing off zombies and some sort of skeleton king, the reward was 2 silver. That's it. Thinking that can't be right, I ran it twice more and nothing changed.. Questing and killing mobs is a faster method of leveling so I don't see any point as of now to even bother with the skirmishes.
Skirmishes give dailies. There are also timed events. When a skirmish pops, do it for more AD.
The UGLY:
Servers: Who in their right minds thought that three servers would be enough? 20,000 people ques are not a good thing..
NEVER was 20,000 people. At it's height it was 9,000+ last night. It's unacceptable and they are addressing it.
Cash shop: I understand that it's a F2P title, I honestly do.. but this has one of the most outrageous cash shops of any game I played. Want to respec? $7.
Want to buy the best armor in the game? It's in the cash shop...
Big LIE.
Yes, you can earn it all by questing and grinding but at this rate, it would take you five to six times longer than someone who just purchased it outright. Things need to balance out a bit.
No actually that's a good thing. I do think plenty of stuff on the Zen store is overpriced however. But that's a different matter. It's more of a convenience thing. They need to make the benefit of you actually spending money worth it. Otherwise, no one would.
Final Thoughts:
I'll keep playing and see how the game is later on. So far the quests have been pretty much and I really enjoy the Control Wizard's mechanics. Unless the PvP is half-decent or there is some sort of casual end-game, I honestly don't see this holding the attention of many players past the first month mark. I guess only time will tell.
Learn more about the game. Stuff like the Foundry and the dungeons and expert tier and Gauntlgrym.
I can't understand how character models are that ugly; they are uglier than those in Star Trek Online (which uses the same engine as far as I know), and that game was launched a few years ago.
And am I the only one annoyed that you can't zoom in and out at will, unless you enter 'Inspect mode'? I find it rather ridiculous, but I guess I always took the ability to zoom as granted. Why some people try to 'reinvent the wheel' is beyond me.
It's a Cryptic product the engine is old , although they'll claim it's not, it's a the same engine they used in CoX, just with upgrades. These were intended mostly for console usage. Even if it were brand spanking new ( which it's not ), it's in use in 2 other games CO and STO. It has the exact same issues it did at the launch of the 2 previous games. It should come as no surprise to anyone that's played or tired their other games. Same tired engine , development process , company etc.. it's what defines Cryptic.
4. The server que thing was a nightmare but the only way to know how many changes they needed to make in terms of capacity...is to actually learn what kind of traffic they are getting. Untl a game actually goes live to the public everything up to that point is speculation.
How is it moronic? Does that mean every company should have a "soft launch" now? Does that make it okay to release unfinished games just because of greed?
So, you're just going to ignore it each time people explain to you that it's not launched yet?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

You actually can't buy armor in the cash shop, just cosmetic armor that you can use to replace the look of your current armor to make it look awesome, but otherwise, it is statless and completely useless.
Also, for the prices of cash shop items, this is just a theory, but maybe it is so expensive because Cryptic is planning on releasing future classes and races, things that would normally be the most expensive stuff in the cash shop, for free?
That's why when I played beta the armor models never changed except once , for like 10 mintues until I found a better statted armor that looked the same as the other 40 I went through....because they will rely on cosmetic armor skin sales as a chunk of revenue. I'm fine with that. Hope they have weapon skins too. I Noticed they didnt have certain weapons.....so maybe I can turn an axe/sword into a hammer or whatever using a skin..at least it will look as I want even if they dont differentiate between slice/pierce/blunt dmg types.

People whine all the time about putting in work on a character during a beta and having the character wiped when the game releases. They decide not to wipe everyones characters and are now getting fists in the air claiming the game meets the criteria for launch and all the expectations that come with a finished product during a BETA. You can't please everyone but man this community is so jaded it's unreal.

Ok so how exactly does the game change between "beta" and "launch" than? Other than the developer deciding someday to flip the switch to live how else is the game going to change?
At it's core to "release" a game is to open it up for general consumption and sale by the public at large.
The term beta is a pretty well defined term. It's for player based testing of a product. You don't get to earn revenue in a beta although if you drum up pre-sales that's a bonus and you don't let your testers keep their progress because that would be unfair to those who play the game at launch. It's really that cut and dry regradless of what marketing spin machines would have you believe.

I assume the game will change just like every other game I have had the priveledge of beta testing before the release. The only difference with this one and the others, for me, is that it's F2P. Other than that I don't get hung up on the semantics of whatever phase they decide to call the game. BTW, my character wasn't wiped in GW2 beta either during it's beta phase so this is not the first time this has occured and I saw a lot of changes in that game from beta to release. This being an open beta, I am not sure why you think that by keeping the characters is somehow unfair to those that don't beta because anyone can test it.
I just cant fathom why so many are hung up on the fact that they are not wiping somehow constitutes a finished product and using this as something to hold against the game and the team working on it. I am a glass half full kind of guy I suppose and I understand that by labeling the game still in beta gives the developers some leeway when they decide to make a change that would upset the playerbase if it were a finished product which if most of us bother to use rational thought can understand that no MMO is ever really a fiished product but still. I haven't tested the game so I am not deriving a defense based on my peronal opinion of the game, only stating that it is sad what a toxic community we have become.
I'm sorry, but have we already forgotten just how polished and smooth the launch for Rift was?
It is not acceptable to release an unfinished product, in a cash grab manuever, to get money to finish development of the product. I'm also looking at you Aventurine (DF:UW, want my $40 back).
Pre-sales with guaranteed beta access is the only acceptable move I have seen. "Soft launch" or just premature launch is a ripoff for the customers involved and is very detrimental to the game both in the short and long term.
Thank you Ragana for weathering the storm of fanboys who can't accept that perception is reality. Not everyone has the same experience with games. I tried to play DF:UW for 2 weeks post launch but spent most of my time filling out crash reports and relaunching the launcher. Sometimes in a cycle of crash, relaunch and crash while launching. When I complained I was told that 99% of the people weren't experiencing any issues. However the dozens of threads on the game's forums told me I wasn't alone. Fanboys will be fanboys. And 83% of all statisitcs are made up on the spot, including this one.
Truth is that perception is reality. For anyone who is perceiving a good, problem-free time, that is their reality. Unfortunately for those that are perceiving a horrible time, that is their reality. Both can co-exist. That doesn't make anyone a liar.
I saw the email notifying us that you guys were going to check this game out. Read a little bit on the Saga forums, and was lightly considering downloading the game. I think I'll wait this one out a few months unless steady progress is made and reported on.
P.S. When a game is released in any manner which either requires a purchase, or a manner which accepts money from consumers in the form of a cash shop... at that point it is a consumer product and normal consumer expectations are in place. There is no excuse for releasing a product to consumers and accepting payment from them if the product is not ready for release. Investors are supposed to fund the development of games, not consumers.
I'm sorry, but have we already forgotten just how polished and smooth the launch for Rift was?
Which part of the smooth launch are we talking about? The multi-hour 10k queues? The huge security hole that let people steal accounts?
Rift wasnt perfect, they were missing some pretty basic stuff like guild banks. And they just put out an unfinished expansion. Better than average launch? Sure. perfect? Far from it.
Its what Trion did the few months after launch that was impressive. Just as Cryptic fixing the rubber banding/lag in a matter of hours.

Totally agree.
yea Rift i sat in 30 min+ queues for the first couple days of launch.. overall it was smoother than others but of course not perfect..

There are stages of a mmo's development that we as mmo enthusiast recognize. Open beta has always been just that..open. Just because they take money or don't wipe characters does not mean it's anything less. Launching a product includes a certain level of fanfare to signal to the media and the general public that a game has been officially released. That official date is important for several reasons beyond what you fail to understand. Data tracking for sales, milestones, expansion releases and fiscal cycles are some of the things involved. And as for that part in red, the times are changing faster than you think. And Kickstarter would like to have a word with you...

When you kickstart you choose to cross the line from consumer to investor. Your point is invalid.
Those that kickstart a project are not investors they're backers. Backers are not looking for monetary gains. Investors are. Backers are hoping for a product they can enjoy when they spend money backing a game, so do those playing any mmo. Including the ones in open beta. To recap:
Investors back a mmo to make money
Backers back a mmo to hopefully one day enjoy it.
Players in open beta back a mmo to enjoy it.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
"Alrighhty.. I hit level 10 on my Control Wizard" thats where people need to stop reading and telling you to come back at 40+ and then give your views on the game.
Really people stop making "reviews" of games when you havnt seen shit yet.
Fine, we'll compromise. I'll get my way & you'll find a way to be okay with that.

Having a different motive than a financial investor doesn't change the fact that you are investing money in a product in order to fund its development.

Good thing they fixed that before it went live through their open beta process

Those that kickstart a project are not investors they're backers. Backers are not looking for monetary gains. Investors are. Backers are hoping for a product they can enjoy when they spend money backing a game, so do those playing any mmo. Including the ones in open beta. To recap:
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
"Alrighhty.. I hit level 10 on my Control Wizard" thats where people need to stop reading and telling you to come back at 40+ and then give your views on the game.
Really people stop making "reviews" of games when you havnt seen shit yet.
Fine, we'll compromise. I'll get my way & you'll find a way to be okay with that.
Having a different motive than a financial investor doesn't change the fact that you are investing money in a product in order to fund its development.
