With a title like mine, one would assume this is flamebait. I have no interest in trolling. I am simply writing this from my point of view.
I like people in general and have no qualms with most gamers. I understand we all have different tastes and things we like or do not like about games. Also, I have a hard time writing something like this because not all users here are "Crabby old farts"
I look at general user ratings here and personally I think most people that come to this site just don't comment. It seems most of the commenters are negative where the visitors are just not. A game rated highly by the community seems to have nothing but negative comments under an article. I would like to see the comments reflect what the actual community thinks of the game.
I just want to know why it seems like 90% of everyone that posts comments seem like someone peed in their cheerios?
Let me give an example. X game is coming out, it doesn't even seem to matter which game and I would say most comments sound like this.
"Nothing will beat UO"
"Bah this is weak, where is the challenge... the graphics remind me of EQ1"
Let's say MMORPG puts out an article and the article states some pretty obvious flaws with the game. Here are what a lot of the comments would look like:
"You just don't get the game because you aren't elite enough"
"Do you really expect the game to hold your hand?"
"You obviously don't understand the game mechanics"
Let's say MMORPG puts out an article that praises a certain game:
"This game is a playground. Walk here and do this here. You don't have to try"
"The graphics suck therefor the game sucks"
"Such and Such company doesn't get it. Why doesn't it play more like X"
"How dare you give a Pay 2 Win title praise"
Seriously, what happened to objective criticism? I am completely open to looking at a games flaws. Some games are really Pay2Win and those games deserve to be looked at in a light. Other games are considered quality because of a subscription base keeps them honest, such as EVE. Some titles like GW2 do not rely on subscription for their business and their paid for items do not give an advantage that anyone who doesn't pay would get.
Some titles have realistic graphics, some not so much. Either way it is a artistic choice.
Some games decide to make things "easy" on gamers by following a standard most gamers understand (WoW) and other games make things so foreign that it might take weeks to grasp certain concepts that are fairly common in most games.
I've noticed that no matter the design choice, graphic style, or overall gameplay, most of the general commenters here at MMORPG are just overall grumpy, snobbish complainers.
I really hope that some of you read this and understand where I am coming from. I would like to see a community not based on hating every damn game that comes out. I am a lover of games and would like to see an objective community that wasn't based on bashing every single title that is being previewed here on the site.
There is a way to criticize without being a complete douche. Perhaps some of you could try it.
