Nothing to spent money on - the fashion dilemma

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

As usual, the fashion nut I am is underwhelmed. I feel like a SWTOR deja vu: I HAVE RL money I would spent, but the fashion there is crap and nonexistent. 3 sets, harlot, king and something in the middle which looks lame. It's like in the joke where someone tosses dollar notes on the screen.

I know, other will say: are you insane!? MORE dollars to drop into cash shops.

BUT:

Here is my reply. Those games must and will use cash shops. We know a lot of people are vain, and buy stuff for cool looks. AND cash shop iteams for mere looks are the most harmless stuff. So, why do so many games FAIL offering cool and diverse cash shop fashion, especially in a game where the cash shop is THE way to get their money back? Unlike SWTOR, where that wasn't the plan in the beginning, it was the plan with NWO. So again. Why?

So instead I have the always same Rogue gear all through level 1-60. Great.... NOT.

Seriously, it's like they don't WANT our money! Pft. I certainly would pay some decend money on good looks for my chars, just they don't let me! >.<

I completely agree on your points. I am not a big fashion cash shop person, but in this game I am desperately desiring a new look and there isn't much at this time to choose from. The regular gear has little variety from level to level. I am about level 32 on my rogue and I am wearing pretty much the same look as I started with. So on top of feeling not-much-like a Rogue due to little roguey abilities (i.e. lock picking, disabling traps due to a poor mechanic for them) being implemented or useful I can't get my fashion on either :( Hopefully they will add more as time goes on.

Cryptic is well-known for rolling out a lot of cosmetic options; I haven't paid any attention to them so far in trying Neverwinter but you can be pretty certain more is on the way.

gw2 baffles me with this also... so few cosmetic armor options outside the town stuff... offering numerous cosmetic armors would really help the CS overall imho...

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I agree with OP. It takes a lot more work to churn out fashion, especially in equipable pieces (coding new models for said race, said sex, blah, blah, blah). However, why not have a small team that handled fluff and fashion. It makes for happier players and richer companies.

Definitely agree with this.  Level 16 now and look almost exactly the same as everyone else and the same as I looked at level 1.  BLAH!  I'm hoping a release version includes more, but I'm not holding my breath.

They NEED to add more cosmetic options and lower the price and/or provide alternative means to get other cash shop items. Cosmetics can generate so much cash on their own without tarnishing the game giving it a 'P2W' vibe to players.

Though I've spent more time at odds with the OP's statements, for this one I would have to agree, at least on the fact of wanting alot of different clothing/armor options.

EDIT: OMG, I'm agreeing with Purutzil too?   I'm starting to feel ill.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

^Yup higher end gear drops and sets look pretty bad ass for now. Few games launch with lots of stuff in the mall,  they'll start adding cosmetics and stuff in time. I too have some left over tax dollars burning a whole in my pocket as well. The only thing I'm interested in is a mount (did buy a pre-order pack) but they aren't tradable like past PW games and 30 bucks is just too much.

Honestly, the fact they aren't rushing to get our money right now is a good sign that the game is doing well. Good things will come.

Yeah, I was disappointed in the early levels.  Almost all gear looks alike.  I'm upto level 48 on my cleric right now, and gear is looking much much better now :)  And I'm a drow...there's not many of us around :P

Can't agree more. I would pay a fortune for some baddass robe with a sweet cloak right now. I'd pay just to unlock a proper appearance tab too while we're at it.

I agree with you too.  I've spent money on F2P games I've played for less than a week because they have a great cosmetic set I wanted to run around with.  I personally spent lots of money on skins in LOL, more than I care to admit.  Not only are the fashion choices in Neverwinter underwhelming (compare it to say GW2 costumes which have unique costume brawl abilities), but they are ridiculously expensive too.  I think they squandered an opportunity on players like me who enjoy spending money on that kind of stuff.  I refuse to buy items that give me an advantage beyond simple convenience so I don't see myself spending any money on Neverwinter's cash shop at this point.
