Am I done with MMO's?

funconfuncon Member UncommonPosts: 279

Anyone out there like me? Can't get immersed in any MMORPG?

Here is my MMO gaming history: My first was WoW back in 2005. I stumbled apon it and back then did not know what an MMO was until I played WoW. I was very addicted to it and played for years. After that, I tried LOTRO, Rift, SWTOR but never got that feeling I had like when I first played WoW.

But there is one game that has me addicted and it is not even an MMO. It is an old game called Age of Empires: The Conquerors. I started playing this game back in 2004, on and off for years. It is still very fun to play vs others after all these years.

So what do you guys think? Am I done with MMO's? Am I more of an RTS type of player? The current MMO's I am waiting on is WildStar, Elder Scrolls Online and ArcheAge. But I have a feeling all of these will not keep my attention for long.

Age of Conan my first real MMO played it for 4 years, and the same as you never found anything to hold me in the same way, I think it has somthing to do with it being your first MMO that can not be matched. Age of Empires HD is out on steam by the way.

Can always keep an eye on future releases, but sure, go ahead and check out some single player/RTS games that you've missed out on.

I find it's best to mix it up rather than commit yourself entirely to one genre at a time. Seems like that would lead to general gaming burnout pretty quick.

Yup but I hear the multiplayer set up on steam is crap. I am waiting till they clean that up. I might get HD if it has more players than on Voobly where I currently play.

I picked up Age2HD recently too (mostly to dig back through the credits to find my name.  Holy crap it's like 15 minutes of name-scrolling before I show up now!  Also was pleasantly surprised to see a coworker from Conqueror's was now at Hidden Path as part of the team that did the HD version.)

Whether you're done with MMOs is kinda only something you can answer.  The best answer is to ignore genres entirely and just play whatever looks and is fun to you.

Personally I prefer to divide things into more PVP vs. PVE, and always tend ot have about 1 main PVP game and a small handful of PVE games.  After a long PVP break recently I got back into Battlefield 3 and have been having fun, and for PVE I have tons of games (WOW, Don't Starve, Sim City) I play as well as a bunch on my back burner to mess around with at some point.

I find it funny that you have to ask random people on the internet of what you like. Really? You don't know what entertainment you like?

I've been wondering if I even like MMO's.  I got started awhile back with Lineage 2 and got to like lvl 10 before I quit, then I tried COH and again quit after very little commitment.  WoW had me hooked with vanilla (props to all my peeps that remember 40m MC before raid markers...) and I played through TBC before finally having to quit because it was taking up too much of my time.  That's what made me think I love MMO's but I've played literally dozens of them, including pretty much every big name P2P that has come out since and none has managed to hold my attention for more than a week or 2.  Thought I loved GW2 but after hitting cap with my Guardian I sort of lost interest in it.  Everything else just seems redundant.  Maybe I'm just spoiled from all the great games this generation, but when I play any MMO (even these new so called "skill based ones") the gameplay just feels so dated and boring that I can't get into it at all.  I still have high hopes that I'll find one I can call home for awhile, but so far the future is looking bleak.

Was it Einstein that says it is insanity to try the same thing again and again hoping for a different result?

If i were you, i would move on and do something else. MMORPGs are not the only entertainmnet. Heck, they are not even the only online games.
