I have given the NGE a good shot I think, and it stinks. Time to move on, find something new, and leave NGE in the dust. Go somewhere, but where?
I have tried several game demos, but have found nothing as rich as what SWG once promised to be. Dark and Light sounds promising, but of course that isn't out yet. I have tried WoW, it was ok, but after the first 20 levels or so I lost interest.
Anyone know of a game that has the rich crafting and skill development options that the pre-CU SWG game had? I like space, but I also like to walk around a planet. I am not against a good fantasy game, but prefer one with only consensual PvP.

I have never seen a game as rich and well designed than SWG at launch. Nothing has, or probably ever will, the diversity of SWG.
I love City of Villians. No crafting there to speak of though.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Hmmm I havent tried Horizons but from what Ive read it has quite a few elements of crafting and Image Design in it similar to Star Wars.
REMEMBER, I havent tried it myself.
Also Dark and Light coming out in March or April looks like the next big thing for anyone who likes to do stuff other than hunt.
1) Very little character diversity - I mean yes you can pick which moves/spells and which areas/skills your character specializes in as far as their class but that is as far as that really goes.
2) The group sizes and instancing of areas tends to cut down on real great grouping adventures (if you are into that kind of thing and loved that aspect of SWG this is really not a good alternative) - I mean if you get disconnected you are booted from your group and they have to either continue without you OR go back to town and start all over again hoping you don't disconnect again during the mission.
3) There is no crafting or real economy as far as in relation to SWG - the crafting is all done through NPC's and the sales are generally of looted items and/or through an NPC vendor that buys and sells according to supply and demand.
4) Most important of all - if you played SWG because it was Star Wars first and an MMORPG second - then this is surely not an option
I love Guild Wars and play every couple of weeks for about a week span every time - that is the great thing about Guild Wars - no subscription - so you don't feel forced to play because if you don't you are wasting your money. It is really a good value - Your original purchase of the game entitles you to an account with up to 4 characters - you don't have to keep paying for this game - and if you get bored or want to do something else - your account will just wait for you without charging you an arm and a leg to do it.
I have tried EVE Online, EverQuest, Knight Online and Dark Age of Camelot since canceling my SWG account and still haven't found anything that works for me. I am still looking though
I'm the girl the ESRB warned you about...
Lets give a bit of a back story real quick. WOW and Guild Wars are the latest editions to the MMORPG genre. The rest of the games out there are getting old. I did not say they are dying, I just said getting old. Once you've played WOW and SWG there isn't a whole lot of differences in MMORPG's out there.
I've played DAoC, SWG, CoH, EQ1, GW, EVE, and WOW. Out of these games I would recommend DAoC. The crafting system is good and the PvP/RvR is good also. The level treadmill isn't bad either.
My real suggestion is to play maybe a MMORPG you already have until a new one comes out. I am personally waiting on The Chronicle. I suggest reading the review for this game and the overview, not to mention all the Dev journals for it, which can all be found under the games info. Another game that might interest you would be Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. I hear that game will have an interesting crafting system.
The point is: wait for a new game to come out. Buying an older game will leave you competing mostly against a player base that has maxed out their character and twinking their alts. (most the lower levels you will be playing with will be alts.) You will be at a disadvantage because of this and it may make the game less enjoyable for you. If you wait for a new game to come out, you can have just as good as a chance to be competitive as the next guy and will reap in the rewards of being one of the first to unlock content and advance story lines. This is what I'm liking about The Chronicle.
I will be playing the NGE until this game comes out and possibly both the NGE and The Chronicle since SWG is the only SW MMORPG out there.
I have played Dark Age of Camelot, Horizons, Anarchy-Online, Asheron's Call 2, EvE-Online, World of Warcraft, City of Villains/Heroes, SWG and beta tested several others. Currently there is no good scifi game with good or better graphics, open/customizable character development and with good roleplaying community. EvE-Online is good sandbox game, but because there is no real character playing - there is also no immersion. Anarchy-Online at least used to have great roleplaying community (I haven't played it over years), but it graphics are outdated now, character development is pretty linear and all that matters is character's level. Horizons have really bad company behind - worse than SOE. Other games are just linear games for simple minds.
Currently I am switching between EvE and CoV/CoH. You will get bored to both games in one month, but switching between them each month seem to work pretty well. EvE have openess and complexity - CoV/CoH have player characters and action - and both are scifi games.
I am waiting for Age of Conan and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Both games seem to be intresting. I just hope that there would be coming decent scifi games someday: sexs, drugs and rock&roll is better than faeries and pixie dust.

I did enjoy Matrix quite a bit too... Nice immersion factor.
EDIT: Forgot it is an $OE title, so don't buy it. Granted, they haven't screwed it up yret....

I am playing SWG until Pirates of the Burning Seas comes out.
I love roleplaying! Argh!
