I am itching to go outside the gate, but I am not sure 'when' will be the right time. How much 'Prowess' is a good indicator that I am ready to face higher level mobs and pvp :-)

you will get far more better experience if you find that out by thy self ,believe me.
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.

I would say as long as you have 2-3 people with you, head out. If your alone, then I'd evaluate your own characters strength and then make a decision. By the way, what role are you ? Certain mobs are easier for different roles. Example being elementals are easy to kill as an elementalist.

Depends what you want to do outside the safe zone.
If you are leaving the safe zones to farm resources, hunt treasure with the maps, or explore....anytime is a good time, just be aware of how you exit the safe zone...leaving on the main road out increases your chance of getting ambushed. The farther you get away from player cities and mob spawns tied to feats the more likely youll have a peacefull farming session.
If you are leaving the safe zone to go hit the next feats on your list, best believe that your not the only one. Some of the non safe zone spawns tied to feats can get as crowded as safe zone mobs only now people can kill you and claim the spawn. In this case bring a lot of friends, be geared in at least r30, and make sure you know hwere the nearest chaos bank is..you will see pvp here.
If you are going out to pvp...like the statement above bring friends be geared at least in r30. Youll need at least 15k-25k prowress all dumped into combat and stats. You can get by with 10k if your sneaking about listening for other people mining/fishing and can get some ganks yeilding lots of resources.
I do reccomend you get into a clan prior to leaving the safe zone to hit mobs spawns for feats. If your just looking for virgin metal nodes or good fishing grounds...or want to use that treasure map...just be careful how you leave the zone, and kep aware of any large clan in a city/holding or mob spawns on the feat list...other than that your looking at chance encounters...and a lot of time people will pass you and not give you a second look (unless your geared)
You could venture to the other safezones and map them out.
You should find yourself a clan with a city so the you can use that place a base. When you are ready to lose the gear you have on you, then you are ready to leave the safezone. Don`t worry, you can always go back if you want.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

even Mining & harvesting is more fun out in the wild. Believe me, when you bring in that first haul of hundreds of iron ore, while others are fighting for 10-20 in the safe zone, you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Get your main stat booster up. self heal 100, transfers to 50, and the rest of the requirements depend on class. But there really is no requirement for having fun, and being out there sure is more fun. Make friends...fast..... I know it's harder than ti sounds with the amount of asshats in DF, but there are some very cool people out there playing.
My character left the safezone as soon as I got my mount from the tutorial. I had killed 3 other players and not died once by the time I had saved up 200 prowess for my first booster
That was the first day of release tho. But you will always find more reward out side the safe zone. My advice get a few sets of armor saved up in your bank. Buy 5 of each tool and put it in a bag in your bank. Then leave the safezones FAR behind and live out of chaos banks untill you run out of your armor and tools and have to go back to safezone.
If you get lucky in pvp like me you will almost never have to go back to safezone...
In the beginning don't go outside for PvP, resources or high level mobs - but only for chaos chests, and for "Pathfinder" (400 PP) feat.
You don't need anything but a mount - which are really cheap in DFUW.
I don't know if he ventured out of the safe zone yet, but I did (at 4k prowess). I was getting bored grinding mobs and refining/crafting, so I figured it was a good time to go out and die . About 5 minutes out, after checking out some cool ruins etc, I got an arrow to the back... then 3 more. Watched as 2 well equipped skirms took my mount.. I think they left the noob gear I had on my grave.
Wish I would have gotten to explore more, but it was fun anyway. It made me realize I need to find a guild to have some safety in numbers, and that I have a long way to go as a relative casual player to become pvp viable, in gear, prowess, and most importantly in knowing the game/controls.
