SWG refuges will be flocking to WoW

EgoeEgoe Member Posts: 4

Well, after the introduction of SOEs monstrosity called the "new game experience" was introduced last week. The exodus of players from the game swearing off SOE forever is staggering. It seems that many of these players are planning and have already started to make a home of WoW. The SWG forums have many threads about which game to switch to , with many entire guilds switching over. So , there may be a new surge of newbs in WoW. Please be kind, the refugees from SWG have been taken for quite a ride by SOE.

What is this 'new game experience' thing in SWG anyway? *goes off to check*

I've noticed an increase of players in WoW from my old galaxy Kettemoor since the release of the NGE. Although many were die-hard SWG fans, the ones I've talked with just said that SOE/LA went too far in their changes this time.

Briefely, the NGE (New Game Enhancements) was released with only a two week notice to the playerbase. The NGE is a fundamental change to SWG, making it an almost entirely new game.

So what exactly changed for the bad with SWG to force people away?

I just hope these refugees dont bring their weapons with them... wouldnt want lightsabers and blaster rifles in WoW... Characters would be easily transformed, humans are humans, wookies will become taurens, those fishguys would become murlocs, Twilek will become nightelves, lizard guys - orcs/trolls...

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Actually most people quit SWG because the NGE reminds them too much of WoW.

Then those people are complete idiots... the NGE does nothing to make SWG any more like WoW. In fact the more limited skill system, and point and shoot combat make the game less like WoW than it already was.

SWG doesn't have enough players to make up more than a barely noticeable spec of the millions of players playing WoW.

Might just be a newbie question, since I have not played a MMORPG since WoW stress test, but is SWG really that bad? I bow to the more experianced players as long as their ego is not longer than their sword. imageimage

SWG isnt that bad, it was fun from day 1. But not balancing classes or fixing bugs for over 2+ years gets people irritated. Then to top it off , the people who actually didnt mind and stayed....they start changing the whole combat system and the way the game is played. Think this is the 2nd or 3rd game altering change....i could be wrong.

If you have never played SWG, it is probably heading in the right direction now. I imagine you would also enjoy it as it was very immersive for myself as well. But SOE really just mishandled the game. The supervisor fo the Dev team should be shot for pushing content before fixing in game problems first. Of course that just my opinion.

.....sure miss it but I dont miss the exploits and bugs one bit.

I greatly appreciate the honest and what seems to be aa very accurate description, I am finnally going to play WoW, but had been to poor for the $50 for the game and $15 monthly, but I found it on Amazon new for $29 and went for it, walmart has cheap prepaid cards for it now too. lol. Thanks again Bama, maybe someday SWG will be worth buying I guess.. If they fix the exploits etc.. Fire the dev's too I guess! Really though thanks, Mel

SWG refugees will flock to a lot of games. There is a thread on the DnL forums with "welcome to DnL, SWG refugees", and loads of responses from those former SW players.

Neither does EQ, EQ2, or the upcoming steaming p.o.s Vanguard. That is if Vanguard even launches, a pathetic game based on pathetic EQ original and trying to launch in 2006! Dumbest idea ever, and EQ was terrible all the way around, why copy that crap and try to launch in 2006?!

EQ must have been just godawful for you to have played it enough to level a warrior to 70 and 466AA's, and a cleric to 63 and 10AA's ::::29::

I'm enjoying WoW right now more than I ever did the first time I played it, but one thing that's always nagged me is how much the player base likes to rip on other games and talk about how bad they are... even though they put as much time into them as they have into WoW.

    If I hate a game, I just don't play it :p

I think the "more like WoW" comment comes from the fact that NGE is simpler and more immediate.

The problem is that NGE is simple in the sense of "stupid", whereas WoW is simple in the sense of "easy to grasp/use". WoW may not have the world-depth of many other MMOs, especially not early SW:G, but it has a fair amount of depth and sophistication in its workings, while still encouraging fairly mindless play if that is what you want.

NGE - at least in this its first iteration - seems to have been created for small children and dimwits. Just the fact that the character classes have to be illustrated by characters from the films speaks to the dumbing-down. As if the players can't figure out what a Smuggler is without a picture of Han Solo.

EQ1, pre Scars of Velious, was the best game of it's time..and thus the template for 90% of the MMOs out today.

A lvl 70 and a lvl 63. Ya, EQ1 must have sucked for you.

If not already said, the NGE (New Game Experience) Is SoE's Way to skrew us all. They took our wide range of about 35 professions and squeesed it down to, ohh 9! One being JEDI! Noob jedis are running around with lightsabers and robes. The vets that worked 5mon to get jedi can now start as it. 5mos of training (grinding) down teh drain.

Ok, this is annoying. I start out in SWG over a year ago, get bored after a few months and go to WoW. Didnt have enough time for end-game dungeons so go back to SWG... 2 weeks b4 NGE came out lol. So guess where I'm going now?image

Don't know how many people are heading for WoW but since NGE the DnL.net forums have been flocking with SWG refugees. The moderators even used up all their funny comments and are now down to quoting the movie on closing threads (they made a stickie for the SWG'ers).

They probably will, yes. Sure, from a SF-standpoint, EVE Online is more close, but given SoE tried to make SWG a SF-WoW anyways, I think most people will wander to WoW itself, who has the same mechanics in actually-working...

Yes, after playing a little bit of the NGE, I think it is really nothing like WoW. Wow doesn't have a crosshair, wow doesn't have the point and fire mechanism. NGE is more like a shooter while WoW or more like well...a classic MMORPG lol.

Actually my friend played my characters, and it took me 3 days, yes 3 days to make level 63 and 10AA's power leveling, thats how messed up EQ is. I did it to sell the characters for RL $$ before WoW came out, WoW is thousands of times better, take it from an EQ veteran.

What is pathetic about EQ and Vanguard, all the giant useless timesinks and crappy raids do is make it worthwhile to ebay. It sure doesn't make the game difficult, just boring. Thats why WoW has 4 million players, accept the fact, and the Vanguard fanbois need to get over themselves-they are snotty, overbearing, and egotistical kiddies living in Mom's basement with no lives. You know two things nada and zip.

I finally talked him into buying WoW and we're both enjoying it image
