I have given up on Star Wars video games. EA or no, I don't see any one developer or company out there with the imagination or drive to create a really enjoyable Star Wars game. What are they going to do with their millions of dollars? They tried that already, and SW:TOR is what happened. It's turning profit? So what? Doesn't change the fact that you have a bunch of elves and orcs wielding lightsabers and going on the same quests as their technologically deficient ancestors on Azeroth. Pleh. Can't wait for "Wrath of the Clone King" or whatever other lame expansions they have planned for TOR. Pleh, again.
Good read though, and your opinions are well fleshed out. I just don't agree with even your hint of enthusiasm.
If you could fly back in time, say 15-20 years, to 1993 and tell people Disney and EA are ruling Star Wars in 2013, they'd probably would have locked you away in a rubber cell.

Ok I HAVE to bite on this:
MMO
This is going to happen; you can bet on it. And depending on how long this license is for, there’s a good chance it will be EA at the helm of whatever that project is. There’s really very little chance we don’t see a new Star Wars MMO based on the upcoming trilogy begin development sometime over the next few years.
... With those lessons hopefully in mind, I feel a new Star Wars MMO coming out of EA BioWare really wouldn’t be that bad."
SERIOUSLY?
Dear Mr. Bitton, just between you and me: we have witnessed the MMO development of the last 10 years ourselves. WHAT made you EVER believe companies actually LEARN from past mistakes.
WHAT?
I mean, no seriously! Did ANY MMO EVER learn ANYTHING from the many, many, MANY WOW clone failures? Did SWTOR learn even the slightest, tiniest bit from SWG? I mean SWTOR wasn't the first Star Wars MMO! And what did SWTOR learn from SWG?
I tell you.
Absolutely, totally and entirely NOTHING. Nada. Rien! Zilch! Nichts!!
So what, I am really seriously asking, what does coerce you into the belief EA of all companies would lean ANYTHING from the failures of SWTOR?
I find the idea there is a giant invisible teapot in space ruling over us BELIEVABLE compared to the idea a MMO company and EA of all companies actually LEARNS from anything! Sorry if that sounds like trolling, but is a belief so fundamental within as I believe the sun will rise again tomorrow. NOTHING will change! NOTHING will improve! They will make the same "core audience" idiocy again and again and again until we both have 10 foot long beards and we are 90 and sitting in the gamer's pension home!

Bash EA all you want but I have seen just as many flops from other companies latly....
Alien Corniel Mariens

and the list goes on in MMO's, while EA is no saint, they get the blunt for they have the most titles released. I am not happy about Simcity which I bought, but alas I have definitly played allot worse, see above. So out of all companies viable at the moment that will actually be around for a few years, EA was a good choice. One could say activision but I argue that their whole line is going down the tubes,.
They relied to much on blizzard games to carry them and with the original members gone, it's just another plain old development house. Don't take me wrong, I enjoyed the new starcraft game, thou I have no want (as before) to go back and play it threw again. The quality is just gone.
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
Wait, someone is saying that EA making any game is a good idea still?!? huh?!?
All this will do is make sure our chances of ever seeing a decent Star Wars game again is low.

If EA won't deliver good SW game, your chances are already equal zero. At least for another 5 years or so
Cheers:)
No the problem is Star Wars itself.
The guys owning Star Wars think: Hey, this is STAR WARS. It must sell 10 million copies, because it is frigging Star Wars! If they craft a MMO, they don't make a MMO for 300k subs or 500k subs. No, they want to make a MMO with 10 million subs in mind. Same if they make a single player game. Because it is Star Wars, they think it MUST make 5-10 million copies sold.
And to accomplish that, they become TOTALLY risk averse. As in: make it as simplistic and much of a copy-cat of "the known and proven" formulas as possible.
Result will always, always be mediocre trash.
Why?
Because it is Star Wars. And that means, fodder for the unwashed masses. Not for the demanding few elite gamers we are. WE are not the target audience. The target audience are those SW fans who want to replay Episode II and who maybe play one or two computer games every year, but toss 60 dollars into a cheap, primitive 8 hour minigame, because THAT sells 6+ million copies.
A detailed, demanding sandbox Star Wars game would sell maybe 300-400k copies.
So you see, why should any CEO ever decide to produce a niche SW game for us, when he can make obscene amounts of bucks by selling trash games to masses?? Why??

I dont know why so much hate for disney as they have always been a great company for all ages...they make great movies both animated and live action, lion king and tron series are some of my all time favorite movies...they have a lot of great tv shows old and new, Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck was awsome. They worked great with squarenix in Kingdom Hearts also one of my favorite game series. I think it was a good idea to let EA handle the games as EA has a lot of great developers under them like DICE and Bioware.

So much GLOOM and DOOM... not that I am surprised LOL.
How about to judge the games when they will be delivered? Too much to ask?
The negativity of this forum is beyond belief.
