Try GW2, TSW, TERA, RIFT, Darkfall, or Neverwinter.
If none of those peak your interest, play some single player games.

I haven't been able to stick with an online game for more than a couple days since last year. They all just seem so similar and linear. You just advance in a straight line acquiring items and skills at designated points until you reach end game to do mindless repetitive tasks and call them fun. Developers have to focus so much on player retention and artificial time sinks that it's really inevitable. There's so much focus on balance and crap that everybody just ends up using the exact same skills rebranded as something new for each class. So yeah, I hope something will come along and break the mold, but I'll be playing single player games or doing other things in my free time until then.
World of Tanks is a lot of fun. The one I play the most. Every match seems different because the random matching and the different tanks.
Defiance is awesome too. Well, if you like shooters and the background, you're going to enjoy it. It's not very hardcore, but it will keep you entertained for a while, and there are patches coming.
Guild Wars 2 is an awesome single player and a good realm-versus-realm game.
I am also very existing about Archeage. It will be released soon by Trion.
I hope it is helpful. Nowadays, I'm just looking forward to play the next boom, which I'm sure will disappoint me as many did. Maybe, it's time to get into other kinds of games. I'd play Mount and Blade forever if it wasn't for my very tired eyes. I cannot even play Defiance for more than an hour a day luckily. World of Tanks, though, doesn't get me dizzy.

go play WoW. problem solved
/end thread
You've solved nothing. My bet is that over 90% of people who are on this site, are here because they are tired of WoW. They've played it too much and are looking for somthing that can give them that epic feeling they got when they first entered Azeroth.
Current mmo market is bad. Alot of bs themeparks and almost no good sandboxes. See alot of ppl posting list of themeparks they have tried/played. Would suggest to try out sandbox mmorpg's but as a said your choises are slim. EVE and DFis good but if you're not into spaceships or full loot pvp then your kinda stuck.
Loving Darkfall atm but that game is not for everyone hehe
Titles worth keeping an eye on are: Pathfinder Online, might turn out in a real nice sandbox. Black Desert, asian game with cool looking combat, massive sieges. Repopulation, nice syfi sandbox Gloria Victis, medieval sandbox with low fantasy settings. Ffa pvp, knight tournaments Embers of Caerus, medieval sandbox with low fantasy settings. Ffa pvp, faction warfare World of Darkness, sandbox mmorpg about vampires, alot of politics involved. Made by CCP and they did great on EVE. Shroud of Avatar, don't know much about it but they made UO. Bedt sandbox ever probably.
To bad they are all a couple of years from release. So maybe a good idea idd to focus more on single player games for the time being
Same boat as the rest of you. After playing EQ for 5+ years straight and then SWG off and on a few years I was always thinking something better was going to come along that would take all of the good from games like these and add more.
Now I feel its all cheap, scripted, instanced bullshit catering to the 'gotta have it now' lowest common denominator crowd where the dev's know the average lifespan of a player is 3-4 months, tops. I remember you used to get into a game, and that was your game until you 'retired'. Now it seems that every other month half the population leaves to try the next flavor of the month and then rinse/repeat. Why? Because its all meaningless no work 'everyone gets a trophy' type of play now.
I'm waiting for EQ Next; I hope they finally figured out that we simply want an updated, full depth non-instanced original EQ instead of trying to wow us with bullshit.
OP, give Neverwinter a try. It's the HOT game at the moment, it's F2P (so no up-front costs). Just download and play. At the minimum it'll give you some fun while you are gameless
If you don't like WoW (or Wow clones) and can't tolerate shallow, hold-holding themeparks or P2W F2P games, there is nothing much out there, aside from underfunded "not" sandboxes (or EvE). In short, there is not much worth a damn in MMOs these days, and there are more than a few who are gameless on the MMO front just now.
