I was looking at SWG on the Game List on this site and the last 50 user comments about the game.

positive comments: 7

neutral comments: 4

negative comments: 39

So if I were to give postive comments a 10,  neutral a 5 and negative comments a 1 this game will get a rating of:

2.6 out of 10

Try it at your own risk image

Edit: postive comments is when they said nothing but good about the game, neutral is when they mentioned the good and bad and negative is when they said nothing but bad about the game.

Listening to just the completely positive reviews or the completely negative reviews for a game is always a bad idea.  This is why the MMORPG.com rating meter is influenced very little by such extreme reviews

    Obraik, you are quite correct.

However, I normally read the contents of the posts, I don't just count them. When I see things like:

    • The game has had one extensive and one massive redesign in the space of 1 year...
    • 50% of my ingame items are now worthless...
    • The game has more bugs than ever before...
    • The game has fewer choices than ever before...

And then I go to the game forums, and I find not one, but TWO letters from the president of the game company appealing to the players to have faith in the future of the game...

Then I, as a prospective new client, will run a mile...

The thing that I felt showed a bit of desperation on Smedlys part was the dangling of the "Guild owned Star Destroyer" idea.  They have dangled that carrot, and many others in front of the players to keep them paying and playing, hoping things will get better.

Why ask the SWG players what they want now, after you hit them with this new game enhancement out of no where?  Shouldnt that have been a goal BEFORE the NGE?  This shows in my opinion, one of two things.  SOE has figured out how badly they have screwed up and are trying to salvage some of the player community that was angered by this, or it is just another "look at the left hand so you dont see the right" kind of manuever they have pulled in the past.  Either way does not bode well for the game as far as I can see.

Its similar to the smuggler revamp that was promised and never came ( the NGE was not a revamp for smugglers, so dont try that tired excuse image )

It is similar to the player pilotable capital ships that were shown off, then later revealed to be just one Devs tinkering around with the game and nothing official.

That's the most telling of all. They SHOW this thing at the fanfair, get everyone drooling over it (it WAS fantastic) and then reveal it was NOTHING THEY WERE WORKING ON.

Then for Schmedley to wave that in front of us... "Your own Star Destroyer". RIIIIIIIIGHT.

They even have shots of that in the new commercial.

Lying again and again. Anyone who believes them probably still thinks there were WMD's in Iraq.

Yeah, believe me, it wasnt easy for me to leave SWG, but I feel like they are insulting my intelligence every time they pull this bait and switch.

It was amazing the amount of disinformation and confusion that was rampant even with the circles of people that were connected to SoE.  A member of our guild had a relative that worked on SWG( and before any one calls Bull on this, I didnt believe him at first either, until he showed us some models and development screenshots of things that DID make it into game later on) and the sheer number of things that they were said to be working on that never came to fruition was boggling.

I admit, the old proffesion system was a juggling nightmare, and is probably what ate up more time trying to fix and balance than any other thing in game.  But the NGE is like taking you motor cycle to the shop to have it fixed and getting a scooter in return.  Sure, its simpler, easier to maintain and is fun in a childish sort of way for the first few minutes... but it just doesnt get you anywhere.

  • Basing your decision on what to play on opinions posted on a forum is usually a very bad idea. And why do you need someone to tell you what you want to hear anyway. Negativity rules on all game forums (except some based on games yet to be released). Try the game for yourself and find out.

SWG is changing and that is annoying folks. Many want to see it fail now. But what you have to ask yourself is: do you want a star wars online game to play in the future or not? If you do then support it, warts and all. The alternative is no star wars game at all. So make all the noise you need to so the game can improve but don't make it your life's ambition to drive it down by chasing away any potential new customers. Let the sales make the decision, not mob justice.

I understand what you are saying, and think anyone should take forums post on a game with a grain of salt.  But paying money for a game without first researching it in this day and age is just poor investment of your money.  By all means, try the free trial, but keep in mind, the little bit you see has been reworked to entice you to buy the game, what you get afterwards may not be what you expect.

As for the Idea that we must support SWG if we want a Star Wars MMO, well that is pretty poor justification.  The Star Wars license is a very lucrative thing, if SOE drives SWG into the ground, there would be several other companies just drooling to get ahold of the licensing rights.  So actually of you wanted a quality Star Wars MMO then blindly supporting SOE is not your only option.

As for making noise so the game will improve, I have been with SWG from the start, and there has always been alot of noise from players to improve the game, which almost always is ignored, by the development staff.  That is why you are seeing the frustration from some members of the current or recently ex-player base.
