Hi KaeyiDream, it would be amazing if you could put all links into your very first thread :-) or at least update your very first thread alongside posting other posts, so that we have all the videos on the front page. Makes it suuper easy ;-)

Doesn't make much sense not telling potential customers on what model they will be using, sounds like they are hiding something.
Or they are doling out everything slowly to build hype, cause that is how marketing works. Look at the number of people who make retarded snap judgements about quality based on payment model. Why not release a ton of information and get them involved enough to try even if they are trepidations about the payment model.

You could be right, but regardless how good it is, if cash shops are involved I won't be inviting myself. :P

Agreed no payment model can please everyone Its much better to get the key features of the game out first, also closed beta has only just started, they wont know what people feel about the game yet to decide on a model.

I was interested in this game a while back when they first introduced it. It seemed to have a goofy, Warner Bros. style about it. When they finally got around to showing some actual game footage I became less interested.
The housing system appeared to be a really nice system. Open world, build what you want and defend it....but then they went and said it would be instanced housing which is a no go for me. LOTRO has housing like this game and every single neighborhood on every single server is a total ghost town. Either put in open world housing or do not have it at all.
The second big turn off was the combat system. They might as well change the name of this game from "Wildstar" to "Avoid the Red Squares of Death". A little of that stuff goes a looooooooong way, and in every single combat encounter you will be playing avoid the red squares. Not challenging because it is too easy, not fun because it happens on every encounter.
They tried hard to make it sound like this game was more of a sandbox, but if you watch the videos you can clearly see it is a WOW-like, linear zone-to-zone quest game with exclamation marks on NPCs. This is what, only the 543rd game like this.
Anyway, four brief paragraphs are more than enough for a game like this.
You could be right, but regardless how good it is, if cash shops are involved I won't be inviting myself. :P
So you haven't played any of the popular games of the last decade? Nor will you play games going forward (based on the trends)?

I do not understand this argument. Are you honestly trying to say the tank damage of WoW is better? Or even the hybrid that is Tera? What system is "more challenging" than what is being provided?

Wait, WoW has plugs which make the game world change on a regular basis? It sounds like you have not actually watched the available info at all, especially not enough to discount it out of hand like you have.

I've tried a few f2p games, to restrictive, to expensive, and I'd rather quit gaming than fill pockets of greedy game developers.
So you never played Wow? Or Eq2? Or Rift? Or...
And it has nothing to do with greed. While some publishers can be seen as greedy, the sheer amount that it takes to get new games made is spectacularly high. Those costs have done nothing but gone up while the costs have not. Considering the of return that venture capitalists need to continue to invest in this sector players need to start paying more. The poor reaction to raising sub costs (impression vs reality) publishers and developers need to find more ways of generating those revenues. That is not greed, that is how the business world works.
Hmmm I don't believe a company creates a game without any plans on what model its going to be, that is just bad planning.
Oh they probably have it planned its just not public knowledge yet
Doesn't make much sense not telling potential customers on what model they will be using, sounds like they are hiding something.
I don't think they're hiding anything. They've barely just finished closed beta 1 .So i guess their focus is on testing at this stage. If i had to guess I think the payment model will either be
A. Subscription based ( I wouldn't mind that at all) or
B. "Buy to play" Similar to GW2
But realistically I see the first option as being the most likely. I'm not a fan of cash shops even for vanity items etc, but we also have to remember NCSOFT is the publisher here and that does concern me just a tad.
Anyways. Thanks Kaeyi for the heads up about the beta invites being sent this week. Watching that inbox like a hawk now !
P.S Just read this on the mmorpg interview ! "The Architect, as another example, can make cool stuff for housing,"

Makes me very happy !
I would also prefer a sub fee.. it reduces amount of really young kids playing that dont really know he 'rules', it means less hackers and botters and scammers.
I like to have all content available and not have to purchase some.. would much rather just support the game monthly with a £6 fee or something
Also NP at all!! Ahhhh thats cool if they can craft them eeeek!!

I wonder if WildStar is a big enough name on its own to warrant a sub to play for the start of its games life? With big name titles, regardless if the game is good or not, a lot of people are like "Well, I can understand that" but I think a lot of gamers still dont know what WildStar is. Just like Rift I think, its like "Well, this game is sub? I dont really want to have to sub to try the game if I'm not sure if it'll be good"
It also doesnt help that the 2013 MMO market might be one of the biggest ever in terms of amount of games releasing, EQN and ESO are both set to release this year also, probably around Christmas time
Hope to get into the beta though and try it out myself.
A sub is no guarantee against cashshops, hackers, bots, goldsellers, juveniles, trolls and bad quality content. The only guarantee it gives is that you have to pay monthly to access the game.
So yeah, I am pretty much done with subbased games.
As for the payment model for this game. Carbine basically has time until release to reveal the payment model. So if they designed the game with more then one type of payment model in mind, they have the luxury to wait as long as possible while watching the market to see what will be the best choice near release. Which would be smart imo. Because there are other MMO's which made the mistake by chosing the wrong payment model early during development.
STO for example, where a large part of the community judged that the lack of content+cash shop didn't warrant a subbased payment model on top of it.

It's a good point...and when you have a game like Marvel Heros (granted it looks like crap) releasing f2p from launch, one has to wonder how this will impact Wildstar. I can see a lot of players holding off UNTIL it goes f2p.

So difficult to find an MMO that I like.. This one has a lot of features that interest me, but I'm not a fan of the campy, cartoony style...
Thanks for the vids (and don't feed the trolls)
