    Great review!

Keep in the mind that Issue 5 was available for free with purchase for a limited time. I do not believe that it is free anymore, however the price is really reasonable and very worth it.

If anyone has not tried the game and would like too, I would be happy to give you a buddy key. It is worth 72 hours of game play. If interested send me your email and I will get a key out to you ASAP.

Another way to check out the game would be to visit Dulfy.net (I am not dulfy, just love her site) where she has summaries, hints, tips and videos of nearly all the missions in the game.

It seems most who played it agree that TSW is worth a play through.

That's why I'm hesitant to actually buy it, though.  Personally (emphasis on personally here, folks) I really am only interested in MMORPGs for their sense of longevity.  I want to find a 'home' and invest my character into a virtual world where he will live and grow as part of a community for quite some time.  Single player and coop RPG's don't do that.

I think I may just buy it once it's on sale again, though, since it is b2p now.

To be honest I'm somewhat disappointed Funcom went this route with the game.  Seems like the perfect IP to create a true virtual world rather than a solely story-driven experience.  Some people like it, though, and it fits in with Funcom's previous games related to this type of IP.

Here's to hoping WoD lives up to the hype.

If you are an RPer or if you enjoy RP communities because they are creative and generally polite, you would probably like TSW on the RP server. There is a very strong RP community in the game, passionately committed to the long haul and having a blast.

Thanks.  I think I will keep an eye out for future sales, and see if I can't really get into the game by the time I reach 'end-game'.  If there is truly a community interested in the long haul as you say, then that is probably just as important as actual game mechanics when it comes to 'longevity'.

I'd agree, I had lots of fun with the bosses but the minor flaws that you mentioned are unbearable to me. I tried getting back into the game a month ago or so and lost intrest after an hour or so.

one year, still loving it and playing every weekend, what a wonderful title. Personality, uniqueness and love for detail of the devs oozes from every corner. although it is set in a dark world, TSW has lots of heart and feels like an actual world. Can't wait for the next mission updates and how the story continues in Tokyo.

I followed this game for quite awhile and really looked forward to playing it until they announced their business model.

Box price, a subscription and a cash shop. It seemed such a cash grab at the time I lost interest. I hope the game is a success with the new business model, but  I can't support companies that cash grab on release, then change their business model in less than a year.

I would be inclined to agree if they abused their cash shop, but from the little I saw while I was still playing, that doesn't appear to be the case. The fact is that the rapid changeover is due as much to the current business climate of the genre as a whole as it was to Funcom's own internal views and concerns.

I'm pretty happy with my purchase of the game. I had no intention of buying the game as a sub game, but as a B2P it's good. Just don't vendor your Base stuff. You're going to need it for crafting. Arg.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I don't recall the majority of players asking for open world PvP so I don't really know that you can say that they didn't listen to their players about not having it in the game.  To be fair there were some players asking for it, but not nearly so many that I'd consider them anything resembling a majority.

Although they have talked about adding an in-game open PvP system sort of like the rift events in RIFT.  It's not open world PvP but it's trying to put more of a focus on the faction conflict at least and it is in development so hopefully it'll pan out.

There aren't many people asking for open world PvP. The people asking for it are just vocal about it.

Yeah I agree, TSW and GW2 have the payment model I prefer. B2P which gives you unlimited access to the base game you purchased, with optional paid updates and some fluff in the cash shop to make you look pretty.

I would be willing to pay for updates in GW2 if they were a bit beefier (new skills, classes, dungeons / content).

These are still businesses you know, they aren't charities. If you were willing to fork out $15 a month for a subscription, why not just budget and get the same amount of items from the cash shop each month.

With TSW the subscription really is optional. It adds a few perks, none of which are overly important. Its more of a loyalty thing than anything else.

To be honest it really wouldn't have been that difficult to implement cross faction PvP. Could have attracted a certain crowd. Although that being said, PvP in the game is horrible. So it wouldnt have appealed to me personally.

Has chat been fixed? It totally took me out of the game being broken.

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

I like the fact that I can read any article on MMORPG.com and not have my palm attached to my face for majority of the duration, unlike some of the 'other' game review sites where they just... oh the unspeakable stupidity I've seen.

this was one of the most refreshing and fun mmos that has come out for years.

I played until I got 2 different 10.4/10.4 full sets (tank and dps) and completed all the dungeons in nightmare.

I tried the raid but it wasnt something for me. It was too hard and unforgiving.. one hit kills and if 1-2 players of the 10 is dead you had to start over. So one wrong keypress for any of the 10 players and thats it, try again.

I come back now and again to see the updates. I cant recommend this mmo enough, everyone should at least play through the story.

And the dungeons are the best of any mmo that has ever been released. Fun and unique boss fight without any trash mobs inbetween.

The raid certainly isnt all that hard. I would say some nightmare dungeons are harder than the raid (HF, Facility).

I spent over 1500 hours in game since release, gear is 10.5 on main and 10.4 on alt, and I'm still enjoying the game.

    REALITY CHECK

Absolutely great game. Even if I didnt log in for a few weeks now, i still pay the monthly costs. And i do that gladly.

So much creativity in quests and storytelling deserves my money.

Really looking forward to Issue 7 and then to Tokio.

TSW will always occupy a piece of my heart. The dozens of hours of playing through Kingsmouth and Savage Coast for the first time were incredible.

    Hodor!

Even after a year passed I really enjoy this game on my main character. Never rushed content and I’m still have things (although minor) to improve in my gear by doing nightmare dungeons, casual pvp and occasional raids with pugs and my cabal mates. Still can’t beat 50% of the nightmare dungeons and get 5min raid achievement, so it there is a much interesting stuff for me to do in the future. I also like to play with my DPS build trying to improve it by trying different combinations of passive abilities, glyths and signets and working on my rotation. I also enjoy flexibility that build system gives in pvp.

The main thing that I like in TSW is that it has high quality content – all things are very thoughtfully done and you can tie every little detail you see in the world to the TSW lore which is a masterpiece by its own. Also the mods for TSW are really cool since devs gave players access to API that allows to implement such non trivial stuff like LFG and various DPS meters inside the GUI.

Game population seems to be quite healthy – I very often meet other players in the first and endgame zones (still nave need to visit first game zone from time to time to get signets from specific nightmare mobs).

Their original plan called for a much more PvP centric MMO, where the action would take place in the Hollow Earth. The rest of the game sounded much like what they ended up with, but sometime between initial announcements and development they decided to skip the Hollow Earth PvP. The Hollow Earth became Agartha, the fast travel system.

They certainly could add PvP to the game, but it wouldn't be open world PvP. They would be sacrificing their PvE game for the PvP game and they've spent too much time on the PvE game.

I think what they should do is something like what they did with their Facebook game. The entire world is divided into countries and hexes. Players can do PvE or PvP missions in the various countries and hexes to take control of them. It was a really neat idea that was wasted on the Facebook game. PvP would fit very nicely into that scenario and the possibilities for open world areas, instanced areas, instanced missions and open world missions would be nearly limitless. So long as developer time and money was available of course. I have no idea how many millions of dollars it would cost to implement something like that in an existing game. Probably a lot. Also, since I've posted the idea on a forum, the odds of it happening are nearly zero. :-(

TSW is probably the only game I bought a lifetime sub for and despite it going B2P I still don't regret the option

I love the lore love the skill system and enjoy the work I have to put into it to reap rewards.  Funcom does know how to add interesting dungeon mechanics to their games as I have learned from Age of Conan.  Despite the debate the combat is something I find entertaining as well.  Had I more time in the day I would definitely be logging on more.

Playing: TSW, D&D NW, Defiance (more the tv show than game >.> ) LotRO, DCUO

Well the one thing about the entire game was you did not need an alt.   The wheel grind as I call it, the daily logging in to redo the same old mission over and over to build up points in the wheel.  You eventually had everything filled out, and could spec for whatever flavor of the month club there was.

It was a great game for oh about 3 month then then It got boring.  Just to much of rinse and repeat.

I have enjoyed a lot at start, but left before free month expired. Despite I had zillion problem at start, game felt very fun and original. Problems were gone after have purchased and installed W7 64bit as support suggested. Not that one would expect to buy brand new computer with explicit 64bit windows barely to be able to play a game. But main reason I left was that console button masshing feeling after certain level. With only few active buttons available all become fast pure button mashing. Reason I love swtor, wow, ... and many others is that one need to use a lot of different spells or abilities, suited to situation. Here nothing. Ultra complicated ability wheel with 90% of pure filler ups. And then masing few buttons.
