I've been on these boards awhile now. I've never seen a mmorpg quite like this.
The only negative post you see are about customer service. I think it's the same type of person in every mmorpg who makes those post. The people who get hacked at launch (been there) and the people who put in a ticket several times a week.
If you are not one of these people, /Hop on and enjoy the ride.

I actually enjoy the game when I am on. Want to put some money in (sub so to speak) but just too many horror stories atm.
Don't like the limited bank space. Being a packrat I find this to be a rather big issue. Specially for cooking, so many mats required and nowhere to store them all. Maybe I am missing something.
yeah storage is somewhat limited for f2p. People make alt for banks though.
As far as the "horror stories" the bans were bad, but they had to do it. I think all the people wrongly accused are back. Mine took two days. They took a lot of bad money out the market, and it's showing. Real strong move on their part.
If you don't buy gold, and know how to secure your account i.e. new email, new password, that type of thing, you will be fine.

If you like the game, you should get VIP - it really helps a lot in the earlier levels. If you are concerned about the security, then you should look into the options for exchanging gift cards. I know several people that used Subway gift cards to top up.
That should be 100% safe.
I personally didn't have any problems learning the game. I'd say it took me a week or so to get down the core systems. The beggars I've helped in my guild went roughly at the same pace. It SEEMS far larger than it really is.
I enjoy the game but calling it damn near perfect is so delusional.
Broken random encounters, horrible net code that gives me the worst NA ping I've ever had in an mmo (anywhere from 80-500 at any given time), probably crap servers, etc. etc.
There is a lot to enjoy but if they don't shape up its going to be just another page in a long book of mmo experience.
Don't call it broken when you don't know how they work. They aren't broken, the people that DO know they work make a lot of money off of them. I know how *SOME* of them work, but it's ridiculously complicated. There are like 13 different personalities to cater to across 1,000's of NPCs.
Eh, I was one of those folks who got hacked. The problem isn't in the fact that I got hacked, it was in the way they dealt with it. Never before have I played a game by a company that was unwilling to return a hacked players account to the state it was before it was hacked, at least not until Snail USA and Age of Wushu. Despite the lag and other issues with the game, me and my friends intended to hang around... until we all got hacked. All of us. Every. Single. One. And we each submitted a ticket, but we all got the same copy-pasted answer that they simply won't help. I know you think it's a "hard stance", but against what? Helping customers who may have made an honest mistake? It isn't like we got banned or anything. We didn't break any rules. They just refuse to help. No other company simply has taken a position where they will not help hacked accounts as a blanket policy except Snail USA. No other company. Bottom line is that, in the western market, it's poor business. So yes, I will complain about their poor customer service. And yes, I do feel it is merited.

I was hacked the 2nd week of GW2 along with tens of thousands of other people. it took them 6 days to return, and did not restore my stuff. Hacked in WoW once took them 11 days, but Blizzard restored my stuff. Since the GW2 incident, I've been as careful as I can.
Anet admitted it was a problem in their system that they needed to resolve, which they did. Snail has made no such comment other than it's our own fault. Anet will now restore account on a case-by-case basis and in most cases accounts are restored. Snail isn't even making that move because, well, they think we shouldn't be reimbursed or aided in any way.

The only thing I can say is the latency issues. I haven't found a single American based company where I pass over 250-300ms where in this game I rarely go under 600. Given that the first two weeks I had a smooth 180ms all the time and could actully do stuff but as the server got more crowded the ms became terrible.
Now, I know I shouldn't complain as I'm not the customers AoW is catering but I also read on the official boards about people in the states that had also very high latency so it sounds more like an issue they have on their side rather than me just living far away from the said server.
Other than that I really enjoyed the game but as I have issues doing anything in the game due to major latency issues I can't really progress which is a shame as Inner 2 released not long ago. :<
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
I can see why Snail doesn't restore items or in-game currency, given how the economy works. However, what blows my mind is that they can't seem to get the "stolen" currency back out of the game. There has to be a trade/mail log which should make the issue pretty simple to trace. Yet, I don't get the feeling that it is happening.
How does Eve handle hacking? Do they restore everything?
Anet said it was "Other sites were compromised." It also took months for them to get a system up. Remember "We do not have the ability to do restores." quote? I think all customer service should be like Blizzard's, sadly though they are not.
Of course Snail u.s.a can be better. They are not Adventurine though... 3 1/2 weeks into launch, not doing to bad imo.
I didn't care much for the game, not the least of which is that in the Cash Shop you buy NOTHING. Everything is rented. Want a faster mount, bigger bank, more bag space, appearance costume, be prepared to shell out over and over again every month...
As well the localization left something to be desired. Some things were perfectly clear, then you ran into things that were reminiscent of Google translations copied raw. Especially in regards to the training mechanics which were at best as clear as mud.
Not my issue as I never tried to use the CS, but a guildie bought some Gold, they charged his account immediately, after 3 weeks of no response from them to his multiple emails the Gold had still never showed up on his account. He has since deleted as well but was wondering the other day if it had ever shown up.
All of that stuff is sold by players and bought in game. Whos's gonna buy a 30 day horse for 9$ and ride it when you can buy it in game for 500 silver lol. People who do buy them with $ sell them to get a better silver return.
Bank space is bought with in game currency and never leaves. Bags are made by players, part of the player driven economy. It's good they ware out. It keeps those who craft them going. Heck you get them for like 5 silver.
Cosmetics are them same bought in game sold by players. True they last 30 days, but who wants to ware the samething forever. Plus you get better stuff for crafting and school politics.
The game has it's enjoyable parts. But to call it 'Damn near perfect', is a bit of a stretch.
For one, the game has a lot of issues. Buggy maps / invisible walls, hackers, massive botting issues (which they are working on atm). Additionally the way the cashshop is setup is a bit out of wack atm. They're over-doing it on a few of the more beneficial items, which is only helping the goldfarmers.
Also the class balance is out of wack atm, and gear has a pretty large effect on combat (ie. it's not uncommon to see MI+ players w/ max gear attacking lower lvl players, and taking almost zero dmg from full combos).
I could go on, but basically.. it's a fun game, that's a bit grindy & rough around the edges, but has some potential. It takes take some time to get into though, as there's a lot to learn before the game really starts to make sense.
The game in a lot of ways reminds me of how Silkroad was, so if you're a fan of that, you'll probably like AoW.
I just played too early in the games cycle then. Mounts, Clothes, all that weren't 'yet' available from players, for any price. NPC vendor stuff only was what I saw.
I love these posts that blame everyone but the company for poor customer service. I loved playing this game until I was hacked and Snail USA treated me like crap. They didn't try to help one bit. Check my post history and tell me how many other games I've talked bad about on this forum. How many gaming companies have I talked bad about? The answer is zero. When I don't like a game I just move to another. I don't feel the need to bad mouth games. When I get screwed by customer service, it's a different story.
I've played a lot of games for the past 10 years and have never, ever, been hacked. I was hacked in AoW within the first three weeks of playing. I checked my computer after this hacking event and I had no virus, no keyloggers, no Trojans, nothing. That is with two different AV programs. If you still want to claim it was my fault then I can say nothing to convince you otherwise.
It would be a lot more helpful to the game if you die hard fans would own up to the fact that they have a security problem and push them to fix it. They should at least be taking care of the people who are being hacked due to the game's poor security if they want to keep them as customers. Right now, they are steadily earning the reputation of being a shady Asian company with no interest in customer service. It is a potentially great game that is making haters at an alarming rate.
Heey no one is defending the customer service. Blizzard has A+ customer service all the rest are D.
Remember GW2 10k+ hacked during the first 3 weeks? Go look at the Neverwinter forums, "people getting hacked all over the place." How about WoW, hundreds of thousands over the years hacked. How about the Diablo III fiasco This is not a new thing, or just AoW.
I have never blamed the victim for being hacked, but it's up to us to protect ourselves until a hacker proof system comes out.
Unfortunately these things have become all to common at launch. Anet said "other sites were compromised." Since then for me, every new game gets a new email and password.
