Classes diffrent on each realm or mirrored?

NooiTNooiT Member Posts: 93

One thing in my mind that stood out for DAoC was that each realm had a somewhat unique class set up, made for a shitload of balancing but it was and still is a great feature in my eyes, all realms shouldnt have the same classes with the same skill loudouts.

Imo it really help make each realm their own

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Edit Should -> Shouldnt :)

I dislike mirrored classes, which is good because Mark has stated from the very beginning that each realm's classes will not be mirrored. A Viking tank will be different from an Arthurian tank, etc.

    I like it.

I think they've already said they won't.be mirrored

I remember him saying that each realm will have their own classes, probably similar classes like in daoc  (ie shadowblade - infil, and warrior - armsman)   but not identical.

I don't have a source though, just have a vague memory reading it.

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

Classes should always be based on rock paper scissors. It would be even better though if there were no classes at all.

Defiantly hoping that classes are not mirrored. Not having mirrored classes gives each faction a unique feel and also adds replay value since it gives more incentive to create an alt of the opposing faction. SWTOR used mirrors and I had no desire to ever roll on the other faction.

Different, non-mirrored classes in each realm was confirmed a long time ago. For instance FP #6

Fortunately for this game, we don’t need to worry about big numbers and since I’m aiming this game right at core RvR-fans, I can choose the mechanic based on how much fun it is to have different races/classes for each realm. Thus, each realm can now be populated by race/class combinations that the players have to deal with in battle knowing that certain combinations will be more of a nightmare matchup while others will not be; in other words, the purity of RPS mechanic.

    LOL.

There have been several threads where the OP makes a comment about wanting / not wanting a mechanic that is in the FPs recently.  I think there are a lot of folks who have only recently heard of CU and haven't gotten around to reading all the material available.

    Or it could be trolls.

This board will be dead in a couple weeks, so if they are trolls, they have to get it in now.

See, that's the problem. Unless it is confirmed after the classes have been established in game, it's hard to really call it confirmed. Metro: Last Light was confirmed to have multiplayer, but the new producer in charge of it just removed it after awhile and said it would be implemented in a year. And that was in a finished game.

Games are subject to change whilst they are in development and even afterwards. I think that it is too early to confirm anything about this game. Personally I would love to see mirrored classes but that would be very troublesome to balance, and I don't think they have the budget nor personell to establish a balancing team early on in their game. Especially since they are aiming for a sub based payment.

They should be different, not only in the classes themselves but also overall mechanics of Realms.

I've said it in another threads but one of the main reasons Starcraft stands out among RTS is its vastly different factions. I think it would be a good thing to aim for a similar dynamic in CU, if the game is going to be all about PvP then it needs to be a varied as possible. I mean if you are going to just mirror factions in any game, why even bother with them in the first place.
