The Final Fantasy XIV blog has been updated with a bunch of new screenshots showing off changes in the character customization / creation process based on feedback from the last beta test.
We've received a two-tonze truckload of feedback on character creation since the alpha test, and from what I saw in today's build, much has changed since then. If you thought there were a lot of options before, wait until you see all the new ways to customize your avatar, including...
An extended hair color palette, plus a plethora of playful tattoos.
Check them all out on the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

I can't comment until i can actually check it out, but it's a bit sad that Aion still has the best MMO character creator and it's 4 years old.
MMO's keep overlooking the importance of a truly great character creator.
Beta phase 3 starts in June and release is this Summer. That's as specific as SE has been so far.
Love it . . . Looking forward the official release Of course I'll continue play Beta as well.
Kupo!
This. Very often more doesn't mean better.
no, its actually even older mmo that has the best char creation, imo. Perfect world, not sure how old is it but its surely at least 5,6 years old by now :P
which makes me a bit sad really. Not only it had amazing char creation, but it was fully open world with no instancing (well other than some dungeons thats it), with flying, underwater combat etc. And now we have 'new' gen games with 100 people per instance (if that many), new instance of pretty much everything at every corner - coupled with weaker char custiomization - trying to convince us its done that way because theres no way to make open world games...
no wonder so many people say this genre is going backwards. and apparently, people are ok with it.
So have you ever actually created a game? Excuse me, a successful game. Or are you yet another gamer that thinks he/she is a game design guru. Just because of playing a few games and know what they like. While also thinking what they like is best for everyone. Mind clearing that up for us. Thanks.
I'm sorry but I find it hard to take anyone seriously that thinks the ability to create body types like in Aion is a good thing. Oh and the reason this genre is going backwards is because of people that QQ too much about how things use to be. Even I've been guilty of that at one point or another.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Roin to be honest heavy instancing (for the main worlds , not raids and stuff) is lazy mans way out.
means the dev team doesnt want to or not able to design a world that doesnt need it
@Raxeon
No offense but you couldn't be more wrong. This game has to be played on the PS3, where 75 million people own a ps3. The limitations of the PS3 pretty much require instanced content.
So just because it's not open world, doesn't mean the devs are lazy. If you look at what ffxiv was and now what it's become, "Lazy" and "dev" don't belong in the same sentence.
I can't believe someone would come out so strongly defending giving players less choice/customization options. Just because some people seem fine with a world where everyone is exactly the same height and build... or one of three builds... doesn't mean everyone is. I fail to see how moving from a situation where players have a lot of choices about how their characters look to one where they have few is of benefit to anyone. Particularly when mmos are basically asking you to invest hundreds of hours into those characters.
(Ok granted people did some creepy things with Aion customization, but still they seemed to enjoy it.)
more customization options =/= better character customization
I would rather play game where players have almost same height, weight, etc. than in world of freaks everywhere xD
don't forget perfect world
a great character creator is in eve their models look so realistic that nothing can compare to them right now.
Hope their world of darkness uses these models they look really sick.
Lucky me,even with so many disappointing games to come along i have several aces up my sleeve.
If Wildstar fails me and i think it will,i can then try FFXIV again when it launches anew.If that fails,i can go back to FFXI for awhile and wait for Archeage,so not all is lost as of yet.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
