I feel bad for consumers that walk away on the short end of the stick in any situation and it sounds like you Neverwinter guys are just the most recent slew of consumers to have something like this happen to you. I hope my real life experience can benefit some of you fellow gamers from making the same mistakes I made.
Admittedly it took me several times myself before I realized that gaming companies never gave a damn about anything other than profits. Is there anything wrong with a company focusing on profits? No there isn't anything wrong with that persay, in fact it is one of the major responsibilities a CEO is tasked with. However I am not the CEO so I look at things from a consumer point of view.
So that being said here is what I think you need be aware of before you subscribe to any M.M.O. in the future:
#1 Set yourself up with some realistic expectations, when you buy into an M.M.O. go into it knowing that you will always be taking a risk because you never know how often leadership may change and how that may impact your overall gaming experience from beta to present to future.
#2 Accept that all M.M.O. Games will at one point or another let you down and be willing to accept that because if you can't then to be quite honest you shouldn't be playing M.M.O. games unless you are a glutton for punishment because you will always be disappointed.
#3 Do your homework, what is your cup of tea? Is the thing you seek the most crafting or PVP or PVE, etc. you get the picture. Then look for that in a game.
#4 Don't fall for tricks, all gaming companies will offer you some form of consolation at one point in time or another. Fanboys of said M.M.O. game will perceive this is an act of faith to show you how much they really care but this is all a ploy, a deception they do this for their own benefit and theirs alone. They want you to open your wallet again so they can further exploit you and take advantage of your good nature a second time.
#5 Lastly you vote with your wallet. When this concept gets broadcasted to more and more gamers then they will all eventually realize the best way to get back at any company or business is by taking away your money from their profits.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you all.

Thing is to try out the game for a fair while before spending any real money. I've enjoyed Neverwinter
since open beta and has cost me ziltch so far.
You both raise excellent points of view and advice let's hope this can trickle down into the MMO community so other people can benefit from this information.
Good advice. We just need more games with trials early on - and I don't mean betas.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
I would also add NEVER directly give a gaming company your credit card info. Either use PayPal or game card or card with a set amount of cash on it! There has been too much shenanigans with these companies to trust them with your credit info. ALSO, never give money to a company that is in open beta or soft launch or whatever they are calling it.
I hope with more threads like these MMO gamers will wise up and game companies will improve their practices. One can hope at least.
I couldn't agree more, especially the expectations some have.
It's not the stock market, it's a game. Find what you enjoyed about it in the first place and keep that state of mind. If you can't, move on. It's Free-to-Play never cost a dime (unless you chose to buy something which falls on you-buyer beware)
What others do or don't do should not reflect nor influence your experience/enjoyment therein.
As someone once said in song form 'Don't worry, be Happy!'
This is good stuff but unfortunately it comes from such a paranoid, angry, disgruntled place. This plays better in my opinion.
#1 Set yourself up with some realistic expectations,
#2 Accept that all M.M.O. Games will at one point or another change and that the game you started playing might not be the same game or incorporate the same design ideas tomorrow
#3 Do your homework, what is your cup of tea? Is the thing you seek the most crafting or PVP or PVE, etc. you get the picture. Then look for that in a game.
#4 Don't fall for tricks. Some gaming companies will offer you some form of consolation at one point in time or another. Be smart about it and be clear on the history of the company as well as similar history of other companies for comparison. Is this in line with what you can expect? Does the company act quickly to fix issues and compensate their customers. Do they have a history of repeating the same mistakes over and over?
#5 Lastly you vote with your wallet.

Actually my OP are my thoughts and my opinions and mine alone and your response strikes me as having a very negative tone based on the way you label it with some very condescending accusations.
What I hear you saying is you feel my thoughts and opinions do not come from a happy place?
How well do you know me personally to make the assertion about me?
You analyze my post as if you knew my intent, could read my mind and so on is assuming you know how I feel personally without ever meeting me or even discussing any topic with me in advance.
Your post communicates to me you are attempting to correct me and judge me based on this post? Is this true?
If so, who are you to correct anyone's opinions? What gives you this right and/or certification? Also who are you to judge as if you know where an opinion or thought comes from?
The post I wrote is based on real life experience and I said that but in your over zeal you missed that apparently.
So my friend I suggest to you to confirm with the person you accuse about what you perceive is and I will use your own words in this case, "paranoid, angry, disgruntled place" before you label anyone's thoughts or opinions with such negative and slanderous accusations.
We all have different backgrounds, different origins, different opinions, different methods of communication, etc.
That being said we grow and mature as people and individuals when we respect each others points of views without trying to insult someone's posting by labeling it with negative connotations instead of confirming it before you do this.
Truth be told if you were as concerned about your post tries to claim then you would take that point of view offline with me in a private conversation.
Great advice and well said from another member of the MMORPG community !!
All i'm saying is your original post comes off as too negative and not great advice.
The core of it is good advice but advising someone from a negative place isn't a good way to do it.
You insult players (fanboy) you assume companies are some evil institution trying to "fool you" while they do the "hat trick".
Not a great place to come from. You made your post and that's my response.
"in my opinion".

I thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with me and the online community. I see that words I use may appear to be offensive or negative to you but I assure you that I am speaking the way I would if you and I met in person.
This is the way I communicate, I won't get into the weeds about what word should be used in what situation because then I am no longer being true to myself.
When I say something I want to look at it and say yes that is exactly how I talk instead of publishing something that isn't true to me, the author of my post.
Best of luck to you and thank you for your feedback and input
he should be VERY happy with your opinion. I thought it was far too generous. The OP's nonsensical ramblings were kind of comical...to me at least.
That's your opinion
ya, I kind of covered myself with it being my opinion when i said "to me at least." i guess that went over your head.
Well, I for one enjoyed your edited version, being a bit better advice. Companies mess up, it happens, a bug here, server problems there, a bad launch, it happens to them all, and coming off like that you should just turn your backs on them the moment this occurs, well, you might as well go play Chess, as any game that's come out for anything electronic most likely isn't for you.
Just scanning through the forums, there's one term that pops up left and right, that being 'fanboy'. It's a ridiculous thing, as people tack it into their posts as if to say "Anyone that might have anything to say against my words, and in favour of this MMO is just a mindless sheep and is wrong!" ..funny enough, yeah life doesn't work that way.
Are there fanatics out there? Certainly, but more often than not, it's just people trying to express what they have experienced, as often most of these posts are put up by the Loud Vocal Few.. ..people that go screaming to the forum in a blind rage, while the other thousands playing weather the speed bump and continue with their gaming experience.
OP those seem like very common sense observations things any adult SHOULD have learned by the time they got out of high school, but then i guess these days common sense is fairly uncommon.
