Guild Wars 2: Last Stand At Southsun Detailed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

After a tiny teaser image appeared on the Guild Wars 2 site last week, a lot of speculation began about what it would mean to the game. This week, the answers are revealed by ArenaNet in a new teaser page and press information about the second content update for the month of May, scheduled to hit servers at the end of the month.

  • New Improved World XP: ArenaNet has improved the award system for World XP in World vs. World, allowing players to gain rewards for a much wider range of activities in the Mists – everything from destroying siege weapons, repairing walls, escort missions and more.

  • Greater Variety and More Rewards in WvW: Earn World XP for playing the way you want with WvW daily achievements. Each time players gain a new World rank, they’ll earn a bonus chest with WvW loot.

  • New WvW Abilities and Matchup Changes: Choose to become even deadlier in The Mists with new abilities like Burning Oil Mastery or new ranks in Defense Against Guards. WvW matches allow players to face new opponents in new matchups and test their world’s skill against more foes.

  • Custom PvP Arenas and Spectator Mode Beta: Based on feedback from beta players, ArenaNet has been able to fix bugs and further improve these new features. Now players can extend the time of their favorite custom arenas with added Custom Arena Time Tokens in the Gem Store.

  • Introducing Infusions and Ascended Gear in WvW: ArenaNet has introduced the ability to purchase Ascended rings and amulets and to upgrade WvW abilities with six new Infusions that give players’ characters special WvW bonuses. Just speak to the new Laurel and Badge Merchants on each map.

  • New Southsun Cove Rewards: Players can find their very own Mini Reef Rider – a loyal floating friend available only until June 11. Dedicated defenders of the Southsun settlers can also earn rare new limited-edition rewards from creatures and chests in Southsun Cove, and by playing Crab Toss.

  • Exclusive Southsun Items: Players who help keep the peace during the Secret of Southsun can earn two exclusive new back items, the floral Fervid Censer and the writhing Sclerite Karka Shell.

Another batch of nice new content and features. Not my cup of tea for WvW but its nice to see some time sinks.

Sweet but I'm  that the fix to PvE culling didn't make it in to this patch.

I think they should do away with the dungeon marks, put them all into one to avoid grinding AC x amount of times for one peice. I don't mind the rest, but i wouldn't mind a currency tab or others placed near the laurel icon so i don't have to waste bank and bag space.

"Just speak to the new Laurel and Badge Merchants on each map."

Seems there's at least two ways to get them. :)

ColinJohanson : Also they will cost a combination of both laurels and badges (at a discounted laurel cost) but we’re also adding more WvW achievements to the achievement categories to make it easier for WvW players to earn their laurels doing nothing but WvW.

well if its 5-10 laurels + bandges & more ways to get laurels in WvW im ok with that

Yup, despite ArenaNet managing to put out more content two weeks after the last update, somehow people will still find a way to hate on the game.

Anyways, keep up the good work ArenaNet, can't wait to check out all the new features.

The pace at which content is delivered on this game far surpasses anything I've seen in the themepark genre.

Actually RIFT does monthly updates too and usually has way more content each update.

Rift hasn't released a major update in 3 months. They too busy building their F2P cash shops

They have definitely delivered on their pledge of  great amount of content going forward.  I haven't liked all that I have seen, but we have been getting a steady stream of updates.  Now let me get back to bashing some MMO company.  All this praise makes me feel weird!

Is this just a big PvP update? Is there any new PvE content?

Rift came out years ago. I would think their contents be slowing down.

The update is called "The Secret of Southsun" THAT is the PvE update.

    This is not a game.

Now if we only could get more WwW maps. Wasn't the plan to make each of the borderlands different?

Could be, but Rift is just a WOW clone with bad Warhammer Online graphics.

if you make too many maps, yes the world gets bigger, mor eoptions but then you get player groups too spread out.
