Check out what happened with SWG.

Be careful what you wish for... you may get something completely different and unholy.

Well they've been revamping combat since shortly after the game was released to live. So it has a lot of Monolith's hands in it. All the tools from Lith and engine from lith are probably still in place. Plus SOE doesnt spend the kind of money on MxO that they do on their favorite child SWG. I'm staying optimistic, the devs that have done us well for MxO are still around and working on this upgrade, dont see why they cant put out something good this time.

I'd rather have more changes than not. Even if it does turn out to be horridly bad I'd still want it. My mind just goes numb seeing the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. I want to see something added to combat or hell how about the game. It needs more base content. I don't mean like events, I mean core content like clothes, combat revamps (or adding trees like Master Zen), and new archives. I've played SWG a bit myself from the Pre-CU time to CU. You guys get a load of changes and its like you never ending storm. YOu find a certain balance in the game you like and whoosh, its changed, revamped, and whole new system. Now I can understand you guys hating that, but truly if that were the situation with MxO I'd be hooked. The game hasn't gotten any real content added since retail back in March. Many players, spend more time on the forums than in the actual game. THe community is holding the game together and slowly it will fall apart.

BTW Nice to see you on here Q, didn't know you checked out mmorpg.com, its Solidius.

I played MxO from beta and after release and I really could not stand it.  So, I understand you wanting to get ANY change possible to salvage the game.  But a company that took a franchise that alone could make tons of cash, a game that was unreal and the best ever made and dump it all into the toilet......what is going to happen to a game that never really seemed to get off the ground.  image

The problem with the combat system in MxO is that what makes it so hard to play with is also what makes it so unique. Interlock was, in my oppinion, a wonderful concept for an mmo and for those that remember it's first iteration in Beta it was a downright blast to play with, combat actually took skill, had crowd control, had multiple ways of going about any given situation and it was fast paced, everything was seemingly very matrix'esque.

The problems started when it was time to implement group fighting and then pvp, balancing killed the first version and basically we got stuck with this dumbed down version which is, for the lack of a better word, just broken beyond repair. It's hard to effectively enjoy multiple encounters, it's even harder to enjoy group fighting and when it comes to pvp it's just plain stupid. Couple that with many many bugs, exploits and cheats to the system that players have picked appart and havn't been fixed since beta, well you have a system that is in dire need of some revamping.

Cue in SOE at this point, will they actually accomplish anything with a combat upgrade, doubtful. The SOE dev teams have proven time and time again that they could care less about the community and would rather make combat so completely simple that anyone just entering will know what to do for the rest of the game after about 2 minutes of playtime. The fact that most of the team that came up with the very first system are gone now also points to the fact that it's not very likely that we will see a harkening back to when it was fun, instead what I think we can expect is a complete dumbing down for the skill system, combat system and saying goodbye to interlock for good.

Only time will tell but I cringe anytime SOE makes a comment on Combat, Revamp, Skills or upgrade, we all know whats going to happen and the very few of us that stuck through the long haul all know we're going to get put through the rafters on this one... again.
