In general, yes in North America. However it still has more then 2 million subscribers worldwide so........no?
Here on MMORPG.com, definitely! The only people who have anything to say about it hate it and never even tried it or played the beta or something like that. There are very few who actively play the game here on this site.
The game isn't for everyone anyway. Its NOT for people who like cutsie graphics, easy leveling, no penally death, artificial static PvP.
I played the game for 14 days for free. What found was I pk'd twice (that did not bother me) and most of the people I did talk to where very nice and we grouped. They never tried to attack me. There is more of a trust factor I think in this game, more so when you are starting out. I made it to level 19 before I stopped playing. The only reason I stopped playing was I was told that the endgame takes a very ong, long, long, long to get too.
I think that is a good thing, with WoW it took me a short time to get to the end game and doing 40 man raids, but I just dont have alot of time. I only play 2-3 hours a day most of the time.
I completely agree with you on the "trust". I think (IMHO) it is critical to get into a guild in L2 as soon as possible. Although you can hunt solo through almost the whole game (which would be long and boring) without a good guild you are missing most of the fun. The community in L2, overall, is much better then WoW and GW.
Yeah I played WoW, my wife still plays. To be honest I still sneak a hunt session in here and there. Its a really high quality game but it has no real depth. Its an arcade game. The PvP is designed like a shooter with its "maps". Unless you have unlimited playtime, its difficult to get into the endgame raids and PvP ranks. On top of it, you can backslide in rank if you don't play enough.
L2's grind is long and hard but that is part of the design. High levels are not suppose to dominate gameplay like in WoW.
PKing, I have noticed, is only a problem in the starter areas, especially the human area. The Dwarf starter area is probably the safest as Dwarves are the crafter race and no one bothers them.
Like you I only get 2 to 3 hours a day and I have had no problems so far in L2. The main criticism I read about L2 are the bots/farmers and the grind. The grind is tough, but the bots/farmers.......I actually run across wayyyyyyyy more farmers in WoW.
No. I think it should have been rated higher. I also think that it would be nice that a review is done after a game come out, but also updated now and then too. Say game its a low or high review and changes are made, the review stays the same.
Most of the reviews were done in open beta, 1 1/2 years ago, and, my guess, reviewers got up a few levels and then wrote their articles. Lineage II doesn't fit that, at all. You don't get your "real" character until Level 40, for most people 1/2 year into the game, and the game is really designed around characters about Level 60, about a year into the game. So to review the game properly, you need to rereview a developed server with a bunch of around-60 characters. It will never happen. And for game reviewers who also do alot of exciting FPS's, Lineage II's slow-but-steady gameplay won't twitch their synapses. Also each generation Lineage has been very different, and more complicated, from the prior one. C3 is a very different critter than the other versions, C4 will probably be the same. For anyone who can look, NA server populations are way up. I see Bartz, Teon, and Kain full as often as not. I'll bet they open up another server within 1/2 year.
I have to agree with you, most of the info on the web about L2 is very very outdated. Most of the people on this site who trash L2 either never played it or played at beta or launch.
I play on Teon and its always full.
Unfortunately you wont win over to many people here on MMORPG.com. There is very little support here. I saw one post where the individual claimed L2 was the heaviest grind game and had over a hundred levels he even claimed to have played the game for some time. Obviously he never played the game.
Anyone who really wants to know about L2 should look elsewhere, you won't get an accurate picture from MMORPG.com
I played the game till level 19, I stopped only because DAoC was taking up more of my time. But the people most of them where very nice. Many people had many chances to pk me when I was leveling and walked right pass me. There are alot of cool peopel here.
i played lineage2 from open beta thru c3 and recently quit when my alliance disolved (was thinking of quitting for a while but my friends in alliance kept me there lol) and yes it was alot of fun but so many farmers *shudders* and the worst thing was they really didnt care if you killed them. I actually liked beta more than c3 (i was a scout back then so thats probably why :P) but also the amount of powerleveling done by the big alliances was horrible my advice, go orc, orcs=pwnage!!!!
Hey Torak, where do you get those graphs/pie charts from? I've been onthe site so many times before but I can't remember it.
Anyway, Lineage II isn't overrated, I played it for around a month, got a 30 Dwarf scavenger, and I got sick of it very quickly, I'd come back from school, log on, talk to my clan for half an hour then go do homework etc..
Then, during the weekend, I'd go to the execution ground, and grind until I went up a level, rinse and repeat.
Really, until you get to castle siege level, L2 is merely a grind fest in my opinion.
--------------------------------------- No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
If you play it regularly and try to get through the first 40 levels, the game play gets much better. I think the average i played is like 3-5 hours a day for 5 months and i got a toon in the 60's, and another in the 40's. Once you learn where to hunt and how, you can get a toon to lvl 20 in a short few hours. The hardest part is getting that first toon up there so you can start making enough money to support yourself without having to dedicate yourself to money making all the time.
Also, getting into a high level clan makes your L2 life even easier.

I would like to see a new review from MMORPG.com when C4 will be online on live servers..
The one on L2 description pages is kinda 'old'..
..hax..
its a pretty gppd game...not great, but good.
For Lineage 2 Cheats, Exploits, and Hacks
so by being underrated, you mean it has a lower rating then what YOU think it should get?

hehe just to reply to the OP:
i don't think it's underrated;
it has some big +'es
but also some nasty -'es
so that below very-good ranking is absolutely justified

Don't go red on farmers, or they will farm you back.
Just grief them and make them drop their items.. THEN u'll see your pm chat full of "Chi shi!" OR "Gun dan!"
