Cryptozoic has announced that the KickStarter campaign for HEX: Shards of Fate has already raised over a million dollars, far exceeding the $300,000 originally requested for development of the MMOTCG.
A completely unique gaming experience, HEX: Shards of Fate was created from the ground up as a digital trading card game, free from the restrictions that come from being shackled to physical trading cards. HEX: Shards of Fate combines the amazing community and storytelling aspects of a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) with the compelling collectable and strategic game play of a trading card game (TCG) to create an entirely new gaming experience.
You can still get involved as a backer on the HEX: Shards of Fate KickStarter page.

I love anything related to this type of gaming but i am not really sold on this game.
All i see is exactly what we already have in a TCG MTGO.They took the same idea and really all they did was save some time and space doing the same things.Example we already have "equipment cards" this game is taking that idea and sticking it on the same card.We already have hundreds of various mechanics that can be triggered or added onto cards, this game is basically just adding gems or sockets.
As for UI and visually stunning and sounds,it really does not come close to MTGO tactics. There lies the problem ,nobody wants to go the whole way and make a really good game out of a trading card game.Everyone is trying to find the cheapest most cost effective way to deliver a very limited game.
Back to MTG Tactics, imo that is the way to go,they just needed to open up larger maps than a 15x15 grid.I also believe you need to allow the players to make maps. There are other steps like utilizing mechanics for different terrain and weather effects that can be done.Once you have those much larger maps ,then you can support a mmo type setup.
With the type of very high end graphics that Tactics uses, you would need to make some changes to pull it off,but i still feel that is a better direction to go for this genre.
This really just ends up being another mtgo with a very small twist.TCG's can do a LOT more than simply embedding them with their mechanics and playing your cards.I already mentioned one idea like utilizing terrain effects and weather but it has to be visual, you can't just say it and pull off the same excitement in the effect.
Unless this game does more than just have a square board on screen,it is not accomplishing anything above an entry level game design.
