Life sucks in general and we the gamers are forced to play these games to get a small sense of happiness.

It says that as a gamer we are forced to play games that are made for people who want instant gratification..people who want pay for anything and we are forced to play dumb downed games for people who say things are too tough. In general we are sooo screwed. Thanks next generation for screwing true gamers over....

..and don't give me that crap that you are true gamers.... if you played EQ and UO and games that made you wait and actually group with other people..and let you get to know other people outside your guid you know what I'm bitchin about. So..next generation...when was the last time you actually "enjoyed" a mmo

Instant gratification and MMO should never be in the same sentence, unless that sentence is "Instant gratification and MMO should never be in the same sentence, unless that sentence is "Instant gratification and MMO should never be in the same sentence, unless that sentence is "Instant gratification and MMO should never be in the same sentence, unless that sentence is....wait a second! lol

Anyways, if you asked people their favorite MMO of all time, they'd almost all be older MMOs since they didn't have instant gratification.  The newer players have no clue what a real MMO is (or was).

What do our games say about life and society?

This is a very deep philosophical question as there are so many different types of games.  I want to say that playing is the most joyous experience we can have as human beings.  Where it becomes interesting is seeing the whole spectrum of plays that can occur, especially in an infinite Creation.

So for example; there are light games, and dark games, and many different states in between the spectrum of the pendulum.

Light games may look something like The Sims, or card games, tag, playing house, swinging on a swing set, walking in nature, swimming and other activities along those lines.

Darker games pretty much go down to war and harming other beings.

So I think simply that our games showcase the spectrum of what life is like on Earth in the 3rd Dimension.  They show us the potentials of our dreams and imaginations, the expansiveness and beauty of our hearts; and the potential to overcome adversity, grow stronger and healthier.  They also show us that the worlds inside our imagination are just as beautiful as this pretty amazing planet we're on.  It's summer over here and it's gorgeous outside.  A very green and blue planet.  And if anyone follows chakras, that would 4th and 5th Density Energy.

Like it was stated earlier, we have lots of abundance and have come a long way that we're able to play games and enjoy our time as humans without many physical restraints on our bodies for survival.

The darker games may be more prevalent these days, yet I'd still say there are more people playing fantasy games than, very very super violent games.  I'm not a fan of "good" or "bad", yet if I had to choose games in which I'd personally avoid, they'd be games made by the military industrial complex.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), lots of the dark games originates from the STS government.  (STS=Service to Self).  Yet luckily they can't play dark games all the time because people would rise up and be all like "Government what are you doing?  We just want to party and have a good time yo, there's enough on this planet for everyone, so since you can't do the job we will".  Or something like that.

I know I'm speaking a little occultish but whatevs.

STO (Service to Others) are more light games.  Even volunteering could be considered a game.

A while back I related a gathering around a camp fire at night in ancient times, to todays modern day night club scene.  After all, all the major cities in the West, the mainstream world is all about the night time camp fire.  It's the time for leisure, when all the work is done, for people to come together, dance and play.  Most mainstream music is for the night life, television shows and movies are watched by people, usually in the night, and lo and behold, video games too.

Anyways I'm kinda just ranting now.

Ultimately for me, life is a game.  Basically a form of real life Spirituality.  Not to be mistaken with cultures/religion/politics.  Those are interesting topics in themselves and fun to understand, yet I'm talking about something different.  From my perspective.

I've got to find a point to all this text!

Dark games can be fine too.  It's all about the consciousness of the player as I may have said previously.  There has been and still is lots of pain and suffering on this beautiful planet, and sometimes people have to go through a Dark Night of the Soul, to really see how beautiful and bright their Spirits are.

Aye, I've said too much.  Wrong forums, hehe.

A few links and quotations to end the post.  Thanks for a really memorable thread everyone.  One of my favs.

“It is precisely because we resist the darkness in ourselves that we miss the depths of the loveliness, beauty, brilliance, creativity, and joy that lie at our core.”

~ Thomas Moore, Dark Nights of the Soul.

"There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."

    ~ Carl Gustav Jung

PS:  Rome is a really great study and super interesting.  Although I wasn't there and in no way am an avid researcher of that time period, from what I've gathered it seemed they fell because they conquered too much, over extended themselves, and didn't look within their own boarders, and ultimately "fell" from the inside of the empire.  Also, if their culture was so amazing, why did they have the need to conquer and attempt to force their culture on others?  In my opinion, people would naturally be attracted - even if that drive and natural state is buried deep within darkness and repression - to something that is awesome and beneficial for themselves and other people.

Alrighty, linky to some Blind Guardian which I think is on topic. With a little Troy and Iliad thrown in.

So the thread isn't too boring here is a dramatic quote that I think can be applied to games very well. it

Mostly our games say we are products of evolution.
