When you first start and people see that you don't have a LS (linkshell) equipped and you start to pt (party) around level 11 and hit the Valkurm Dunes you'll get lots of offers. My advice it to get 2-3 or even more LS's. Accept every offer you see/get. You'll naturally slip into the LS that you are most comfortable with. On a sidenote, it seems to me that the people that recruit for their LS's via "/shout New LS forming blah blah blah send so and so a /tell for a pearl" can be hit or miss. I've seen some quality LS's recruit in the major cities just as I've seen some really lame ones do the same. The qualities you want to see in a LS is people helping each other without expecting anything in return. You want to be in a LS that treats all it's members fairly and doesn't talk down to the "noobs" If you are fortunate enough to land a LS (you being lower level) that has higher level characters don't beg them to help every day or every time you log on. People are more willing to help LS regulars that participate on the LS, not the kind that show up to beg for a PL (powerlevel) In a quality LS you'll get what you put into it and they make decisions together.
I ran very successful LS on Titan for a while and when I retired my character left it in good hands because even though I moved on I still cared about the membership. Another thing to keep in mind is what you want out of your gaming experience. Some LS's run events like rank help, garrison, artifact armor groups and stuff like that. These could be questions you can ask your new LS(s) when you first join them. The final route you can take is to form your own LS. If you go this way keep in mind the suggestions I made and you will without a doubt prosper. I wish you all the best of luck.

i prefer a talkitive funny LS over a questing one
I agree Jadan. Although i love FF games i havent YET bought FF XI. After much forum reading between AO, WOW and FF XI i am still thinking about what game to buy. Since i have never played an MMORPG i now download the trial version of AO and after that i will play "hopefully" FF XI. But i have heard so many goods and bads, so many ups and dows that i am really confused if it really deserves it. What is your opinion so far? Bear in mind i dont have limitless time to play, except 3-4 hours max per day.
Keep Traveling
games pretty straightforward
with only 3-4 hours to play a day is pretty good
u can do alot in the game during that time but the thing is about the game is that everybody charges so much for supplies past lvl 40
but the enviroment is decent looking and the community is ok
customizing ur character with equipment is really high with all the armor available, u can look pimpin in ur gear or a freak depending on the stuff u have on
i reccomend this game to people who are social and wanna make friends in the game
Well Janan...
Right now i am updating FFXI and i am ready to spend the day adventuring Couldnt resist so i bought the game yesterday. The only thing that troubles me is that i dont have a friend online so i dont know witch world to choose, and since i am GREEK i try to find other Greek players in forums so i can join them in their world but i dont seem to be able to find any GR forums. Any suggestion?
Hope 2 meet U online.
i cant really help u find other greek players online but i quit the game bout a 3 months ago for college
i was on Odin server and the people their were really helpful
I'm Also on odin and all the people are really nice try to get on odin^^
This is great advice. Pay attention people..
I've found in my time on FFXI that the ls's with websites seem to be the most organized. If your ls does not have a website, then by no means are they slack or lame. But if you have a leader and few other members who are willing to make a website and keep it updated, then it goes a long way to show how they will be like in the game.
Also the type of ls is somewhat unimportant. Don't get me wrong, if you want an ls that RPG's, or one that quests, or one that just has fun together then look for those. But what you really need to look for is how dedicated the people are to the ls. If you join and no one is on and it a peak player time, that will tell you something. If you join and there are several people on and none of them acknowledge you joining the ls, that will tell you something. If you join and immediatly people start talking to you like you've been there for a while, asking you if you need anything (the humble thing to do is not take them up on a PL the first 5 min you are in the ls) that will also tell you something.
