did they make it so it costs stamina to jump up and down? I actually am in a game dry spell and lo and behold DF:UW just shows up. I even got a Razr Naga just for those handy (read:crappy) radial menus.
If they make it so there isn't 75 people bouncing up and down...I think I'm going to sub again.

We cant learn unless we try.
Yes, exactly, you can't learn unless you try.
So for those who are unable to try because there is no trial (AKA AV does not have faith in their game...), then I am letting them know not to waste their money.
See, most people are waiting to hear about this game - because there is no trial....and paying for a game that "might" suck is hard.
So, like I said, if you want what I have described....then you will be disappointed.
If you want to craft your way to some pvp stats to then clunk through the combat,
then be my guest....
Regarding this and your previous post....
You can be PvP viable in less than a week, and you dont need to craft your way there. Took me about a week to get around 30k with very little crafting aside from skinning stuff I was killing and making just enough gear to get me by. 30k is enough to be at or very close to your main stat for your role, which is the most important thing by far, and have some left over to spend on some secondary stats & skill levels.
Im at 64k prowess now, Skirmisher (Deadeye Primary) with 140 dex, 75 wis, 70 str, all Deadeye skills maxed, archery & archery mastery maxed, 1h axes & greatswords near max, heal self and all transfers at about 75. The majority of my Prowess has come from doing feats, not crafting my way there. I dont even have any crafting masteries. I would actually likely be more like 90k-100k prowess at this point but Ive also spent a ton of time screwing around exploring, hunting chaos chests, running treasure maps, etc.
For those who dont want to risk getting jumped by high prowess players before youre PvP ready, you can easily obtain around 20k within the safezones in about 4-5 days with a pretty minimal amount of crafting just from doing the correct feats. Along with all of the normal feats, you can do 3 tiers of the hidden feats in the SZ, technically 4 if youre a pretty good shot with a bow (farm Ogre Bullies on north end of Dwarf lands with a bow from the edge of the SZ).
that's what we call "playing the game" good sir. You are doing it correct. When I played DF 1, I cared less about doing all the exact stuff as I did just enjoying the game. In the end, your point is well made.

It's futile bro, these kids come on to this board and lecture us on why we shouldn't like a game.. Even worse, most of their information is second hand from either people's forum posts, or videos on youtube. I really doubt anyone that bashes the game has reached even 10k prowess, which can be done without even leaving the sz.
The underlined is what gets me; if you haven't played the game why would you think anyone would give two fuckolas about your recycled opinion that most likely birthed from the ever lovely and charming DF forums?
It's bloody bizarre and it really has to make you wonder.

All I have to say, is that original SWG (and I was there in the first week) got a bad rap for being "unfinished" and "unpolished". Compared to that, DFUW is 10x worse, less finished, more broken mechanics and far less optimized. And SWG was 10X the sandbox, too. And I agree with the above poster saying people that want to play a "new" sandbox game have to suffer with poor quality or they get nothing. And that is precisely what we have here; people can decide if it is better than nothing. But as a working MMO and "sandbox game", DFUW does not rate very high.
Exactly - SWG got flack for being unfinished - and DF:UH is far far far worse.
There's all these half assed games coming out because they run out of cash flow and think teir initial sales will generate cash to get their jobs finished, but their subsequent resubs and sales suffer because noone wants to put up with a game full of bugs, server instability, broken spawns, clunkier than expected combat and nothing really new.
Yes the game is sandbox is the sense that you can get some friends, build a ship, and find a dragon to fight on the sea....
But if the crafting is boring and mostly afking in 8 minute intervals, the combat is clunk and the epic dragon fight turns into a sputtering of crappy animations across a screen while you fail to properly shoot because of it, and true entire process translated into watching 6 hours of Netflix while making small talk with people and feeling unsatisfied by the interaction and gameplay that the ssabdbox infrastructure had to offer - you have to ask yourself... Why this? There's nothing fun about it. Even in age of wushu, a relatively new and not completely finished game has infrastructure to promote semi-organized pvp or the freedom of chaos. I don't play the game because i don't feel it's that great, yet it gave me some fun for free while AV stole my money and handed me the shit sandwich that is darkfall unholy wars
To everyone who openly expressed your opinions on DF:UW in this thread thank you,
I have been on the fence about purchasing this game for some time and after many hours of watching gameplay, reading reviews, talking to players, and reading forums like these. You have helped save me from wasting $55, I will remain against purchasing DF:UW until there is a trial or free to play weekend.

It won't even be worth it then. For me to play again, first they'd have to refund the $40 initial purchase (not $55). Then they'd have to pay me hourly rate to play it.
Totally agreed. With what we have to choose from, Age of Wushu is a much more fun and rewarding game that has many sandbox elements which are fun, fresh and engaging. Even though snailgames is horribad and alot of the cash shop stuff is total crap.
If your going to spend money I would go with AoW hands down,
How anyone new to DF could consider what they call a game "fun" in any way blows my mind. It goes like this...wack a tree, wack a rock, watch a cast bar....get stronger for pvp! Makes sense right? Oh and all this wacking and watching time elapse doesnt look cool or varied at all. Its the same stiff animation OVER and OVER. Then you finally get strong enough to do pvp and its so underwhelming I'd rather watch paint dry.
This is all considering you can even play the game without suffering the technical issues which are extraordinarily abundant.
All for 40$ and a recurring 15$ monthly fee which takes a good deal of navigating to cancel.
Except people who like games where death actually matter AoW doesn't offer anything and the combat is nothing to be impressed with. Even with all UW's faults, its still more entertaining to people who care about full loot and competitive PvP than anything else on the market right now which is sad. That being said, SV creators of MO seem to be finally plugging along and getting a host of issues fixed. If they can fix the damn hit-box ghosting issue the game would be great.

Also someone can say that what NGE has been for SWG is DF:UW for DF.
Like $OE did promise a package of sandbox changes called "CU" and implemented NGE so did AV promised "DF2010" and delivered an "iconic" classes system dismissing the skill system and more of that sort themepark gameplay anmd named itz DF:UW.

You know, I tried Darkfall this evening again. To give it more of a chance.
Even a friendly player showed me the ropes. Lots in the community seem desperate to help new players to retain some sort of player base.
I don't know whats wrong with my computer for some games. It seems every 5 seconds or so I get small framerate spikes. From 45-50 to like 15-25. Sometimes that really breaks FPS games like darkfall for me....
I have a radeon 6800, Phenom x6 1075t, and 8gb of ram and lots of games stutter a bit for me....
but besides that....even if the game ran super perfect...it's not exactly the pinnacle of skill. I'm now convinced DF players are just retarded when it comes to the idea of skill in PVP. When your game is so poorly animated that the combat actions and the hit boxes are not even remotely real, how can we take combat seriously?
I love the idea of darkfall.
But I log on darkfall, and spend 3 hours slashing randomly over crappy mobs and skinning them, then crafting to make myself stronger for PVP. Apparently I have weeks of doing this to go.
Then I log into Neverwinter and have this really fun combat system that flows together and dungeons with events and quests, etc....
and then DF players go "oh fine, go player your themepark bs"
Yes, I wish to god other games incorporated gathering, building, player housing, and clan/open world pvp.
But that's what DF aspires to be. What it turns out to be is AFK crafting watching netflix hoping to get strong enough one day to deal with a pretty crummy combat system against mostly clans of gankers much stronger than you.
Would I love a world where Clans held castles and community regulated itself? Yes
But I'd also love that world to have something somewhat interesting to do. Seriously. I can only crappily slash so many skeletons before I get pissed off that I actually paid money for this game.
I totally agree with this.
In the old version of DF, there was more to do - the world was bigger with a few more features.
I remember really enjoying looking at an interactive map and planning that evening's expedition.
That's totally impossible now. It's group PvP or nothing.

The NGE removed all the key features of SWG and turned it into a totally different game without telling the players.
DFUW, all the features you complained about were discussed at least a year or more ago, and they fix crippling design flaws with the original game. Not comparable at all.
Also, giving a game a bad review because the server hosts were suffering a DDOS attack isn't exactly fair.
This game is what you make of it. And if all you do is log in and farm and craft, and you don't find that fun, well...
I went out just exploring with my friend, and I had a blast. We didn't kill anything.

you are wrong what we got in updates was a enterly different description then the resulting DF:UW.
There was a description on the armor system as a deciding factor on which skill could be used. Combine and wear a full set to get all the bonus. Presige classes have been described as prestige titles that you could optionally enable to the armor spec system. That's different of DF:UW's locked roles.
Different bows and arrows. Portal system in dungeons you have to fight your way out .
It would end up very comical to go back and revisit the DF2010 updates ....

There was not more to do in DFO. At launch DFO you had to afk macro shooting MM into the air for weeks, then it was eventually replaced by shooting magic AFK into players or a hivekin. DFO was only "solo friendly" when the game died. You really have a skewed version of what DFO was. UW fixes a host of fundemental issues DFO had. If AV can fix territory control problems, the game will be better than DFO ever was.

You haven't addressed the point I made.
The old version of DF had a bigger map. You could easily plan an expedition to one of the many (30 or so) isolated islands. YOU CAN'T DO THAT ANY MORE!!!
Take a good close look at the new map - it's an arena for group PvP - nothing else.

Go from the NW corner of Niffleheim to the SE corner of Cairn.
Tell me how long it take you.
Then please list all the mmo's with bigger uninstanced worlds.
If you can do all of those, you might have a leg to stand on.

Why would you want to play this game that long? :P
First game ever that I paid $40 for and played for less than a few days.
I wish there was a class action lawsuit for false advertising by calling this "fun" or a game ;O
And judging by the numbers, this game won't survive a year anyway.
Re-installing age of conan for some hardcore full loot action. Even as free, that game provided me much better pvp exploration and fun.

After Darkfall most mmo's are boring and don't get me excited.
Darkfall has made me an adrenaline junky and now other mmo's have trouble keeping me interested for more than a few weeks.
Sadly, this. The only game thats come close has been PoE's hardcore server until you realize that your character isn't actually killed off after dying on the ladder
I'm glad that i only spent 15 dollars to try this version of darkfall. I would pay 1000$ to bring back Darkfal online. I miss it so much!
I'm not from UO so i don't know what's the monolit thing, but it's supposed to be their last patch at the end of july. If the monolits thing and the sea towers don't end up becoming as good as i think they will be, i will for ever be done with DF UW.
Enchanting is not even on their to do list when the enchanting rings and millions of enchanting resources are still collectible. I expect a huge influx on enchanting when it will be in. There's no plan for a meaningful murder system. You currently just have a red name and that's it. As a result, everyone's hugging the safe zones unless their city is at a safe zone state(walls too high to get inside without a siege engine and towers so powerful that you can't possibly win inside.)
Salvaging is so crappy that you might as well not waste your time with a warrior if you're a mage since you don't get much in return if you break them regardless of your skills or clan crafter skills.

Perhaps if you and the 500 others like you paid $1000 each per month they might be able to bring back the old, broken 1.0 that no one played and died due to lack of players.
Really you use salvaging as ammo to trash the game? ITS OPTIONAL, if you want to gamble on getting rare mats, or want to salvage crap gear then do it, if not sell it for 1 gold, if not don't bother...its better than the 1.0 version of nothing.
I really do think the few hundred bitter 1.0 vets are quite pathetic. considering I was active and on the DF forums during 1.0 and watched just about every one of them do the same trash talk and whines with the game they now hold as the perfect game.
DF1 died and was remade because not enough people agreed with you that it was good...and when it was alive you and many others did nothing but complain how bad it was. Move on, give it a rest.

I have been on the fence about purchasing this game for some time and after many hours of watching gameplay, reading reviews, talking to players, and reading forums like these. You have helped save me from wasting $55, I will remain against purchasing DF:UW until there is a trial or free to play weekend.

This, lol. It's a shame that an account is just lying there, useless.
It won't even be worth it then. For me to play again, first they'd have to refund the $40 initial purchase (not $55). Then they'd have to pay me hourly rate to play it.

DF:UW is NGE all over again from a wannabe indie developer...

If AV can fix territory control problems, the game will be better than DFO ever was.

lol I think the likelihood of DF:UW being great will be much higher than MO will ever be.
And that's saying a lot.
Pardon my low tolerance for stupidity.
