Dear Mkilbride,

You have received an infraction at Darkfall Forums.

Reason: You may not advertise any non-Aventurine related businesses, organizations, or websites without the express written consent of the community administrator. To dispute this infraction please message the community administrator Brannoc.

My crime? Linking to a news article about how two investors dumped 250,000$ into another MMORPG and how I thought "That's really cool" .

You have been banned for the following reason:
Advertising another game

In the off-topic section. Even though I said the MMORPG in question was utter shit, just that the article was interesting...they deleted said thread(which had a few pages by then), and banned me. :P

So despite being the section of the forums for "Talking about things not-related to DFUW" you can't talk about other games. There are some remaining ones, but It seems they are deleting any topics about MMORPG potential competitors, positive or negative in nature. You run a tight ship AV,

Think it says alot about how they love to deceive their users. I've never been on a forum that has an Off-topic section and doesn't allow threads about other games than the games own forum. If I had posted it in General Discussion, or perhaps said "HEY GUYS, THIS GAME IS IS SO MUCH BETTER, BUY THIS, NOT DFUW" I'd understand. But it's Off-topic, and other people were discussing other games.

Having played almost every MMO to date, Western, Korean, English, non-English, P2P, F2P, ect, it is not normal from what I've seen, no.

I always pictured Tasos and company getting wasted on rum under deck, while the ship drifted randomly on the open seas with noone steering...

Seriously though, it sounds a bit strange if the random-chatter subforum would be heavily moderated.

While there's a topic in the general forum concerning the rape of women and children in a semi-scary manner. I know. Bad moderators is basically the point of this thread.

I recall playing L1 about 12 years ago and they would chat ban you for even mentioning another MMO in World Chat. (they had active moderation in game as well).

In fact, when I left the game I posted in all the town in game bulletin boards that I was leaving to go play DAOC and they perma banned both of my accounts.

So no, not unheard of, but I've never brought up another MMO in a company sponsored forum since then. (which is pretty much why I spend most of my time here)

AV have always been hugely erratic in how they treat the forums. You posted this on the wrong day/wrong time, however I've seen people get banned for less.

12 years ago. That's when the MMO market was small enough that with both hands you could list them all, most likely.

But in today's diverse market...makes little sense and seems immature.

Nothing new.

I remember when you could discuss about all games except mortal online.

Now, i bet you will receive an infraction for talking about any other potential sandbox games.

But seriously, you can't complain about it when it's in the rules to not talk about other games. The rule is common for all gaming forum, but usually, the mods won't give you an infraction for that unless you're just pushing the community at buying that product.

AV had far more patience than I would have. They let you put up far too many threads in your campaign to smear the game.

OP recently stated Darkfall was down for a whole week (post launch) with no communication from Av.

he's a flat out liar, and i'm surprised he's not banned from MMORPG.com yete

I used to work for a Coke-Cola bottler/distributer. I saw several people get fired, on a couple times, for bringing Pepsi and Mountain Dew into the plant.

Although we live in what is considered a "free" society, we do not. Private entities have rights too, rights that transcend the rights of individuals. Take for example free speech, AV has the right to censor what gets published on their forums. I suspect if one read all the lines of the EULA, one would find touting another game is prohibited.

As far as the OP goes, I need pics of your post that "only says the investment is cool", before I believe you weren't attacking AV, and claiming X, other game is better.

Show me another MMO that actively bans users for the type of post the OP made in the Off-Topic forum.

It should be really easy for you to come up with loads of examples, since this is "typical".

I saw the thread, it seemed like just another Darkfall forums off-topic thread as so many like it. Not having followed the thread, I don't know why exactly it got deleted, but it certainly is a bit strange when people discuss other games and whatever else on those forums for years now.

But it certainly seems a little out of character.

That is the description for the Off-Topic Forum here at MMORPG.COM. So, why exactly would you get banned again?

If they don't mean "discuss anything you want"... then they should specifically spell out "except for our competitors".

Same holds true for DF:UW Off-Topic Forums. Here is the description for that below:

This is for any topic not related to Darkfall, anything is open for discussion here as long as it stays within the limits of the forum rules.

They do give the caveat of the forum rules... which the pertinent area that may apply is listed below:

You may not advertise any non-Aventurine related businesses, organizations, or websites without the express written consent of the community administrator.

So, I guess it comes down to if the moderators think that merely mentioning another MMO is considered advertising. I don't think it is... but ultimately it is their site and they make the rules there.

Well my favorite part is how it was a article that kinda blasted their competition. It made them look better by comparison.

So them removing it and banning me, quite odd. :P
