I am not sure this MMO is out there but I thought I would ask all of you. I am looking for an MMO that has a "true" Thief/Rogue class. What I mean by true is that the thief has the ability to do the following:
find/disarm traps: In dungeons, on doors, on chests (both big ones and small ones you can have in your inv.)
pick locks (doors, chests, etc..)
pick pockets (real pick pockets, taking actual stuff from an NPC or Player, not some small special loot table)
stealth
backstab of some kind
I have been thinking about Gemstone III and the Thieves in that game, we had a good time, with abilities that others sought out. I remember sitting in towers picking the locks of chests (for a fee of course) of other players. Or stealing their stuff in town. Are their any MMOs like that?
It can be old, new, 3d, 2d, f2p, p2p, b2p, etc....

Yes, this game exists, its call Shadowbane. You can do all the above in this game as a thief, the down side was you would get wtf owned if you didnt have enough run speed.

Yes, this game exists, its call Shadowbane. You can do all the above in this game as a thief, the down side was you would get wtf owned if you didnt have enough run speed.
I know with Shadowbane (which I played a long time ago) you can do some things like backstab and steal but can you pick locks and find/disarm traps?
I know that Shadowbane shut down a few years ago but certain things are happening with it that I wont mention.
Really is there no other MMORPG out there that has a class that can do those things. I have been slowly searching the internet and mmo sites for such game. Do I need to go back to a Mud?

I'm going to say classic EQ1 rogue by a mile, he does everything you describe. If you want something a bit more modern then i always loved my burglar from lotro.

I'm going to say classic EQ1 rogue by a mile, he does everything you describe. If you want something a bit more modern then i always loved my burglar from lotro.
EQ1 was my first MMO way back in the day (was a beta tester and player for many years when it first came out). I have lots of fond memories of EQ. My first character was a halfling rogue named Fobbo.
I still play, especially after they went f2p and was able to get my Fobbo back. Yes EQ1 has many of the skills I am looking for but falls short in a few areas.
Lacks traps - I only know/remember a few here and there in dungeons
Lock picking was only on doors and that was also a few here and there.
Other wise it was/is a good game for a rogue/thief character.

Tell me, TELL ME NOW!!! I have been waiting YEAARRRS for a game like SB to come out. I know the emulator is being worked on but it is moving so slow I wish there is a way I can help.
what you describe is ultima online... i miss the days of sitting at bank and looting everyones pocket there still some free shards out there that have full stealing and pickpocket lock picking and such but now there nothing like it out there every one is so danmed care-a-beared its not funnie
