So on the darkfall website it says, "raise wondrous city structures"
So what can an individual (not a clan) actually build. I'm not against building things with a clan, but it would be nice to have a spot of my own that I can both plan, then build.
So what can I build?
And there is no flying right?
edit - ok I've since found out they do have housing, but do you build it or just click the deed and poof it appears?
edit - Things I like about this game - skill based, I can go anywhere, good crafting system, housing.
Things I don't like - pvp - I admit I suck at it. But I'd be willing to overlook it if the other aspects are good. I'm really just looking for another game that lets me design my character and play how I want.
Currently playing Istaria for the build how I want, crafting and housing but a 2nd game with those aspects and a bit more development would be kinda nice. That and they are down for 24 hour maintenance

Yea, DFUW is not going to have the level of crafting/building you want. Houses come in 4 (?) varieties/sizes, but they are random loot from chests, not crafted. This applies to all furnishings as well. I have heard that all housing plots (which are predefined plots) are already taken; I have no idea if this is true, but even if they are almost full you would have to get ridiculously lucky to both find a house deed and a plot for it at this point.
I know even less of clan holdings, but I would expect that the clan leads make all decisions on building and placement, so you will most likely not get to participate much beyond donating money and mats...
IDK, try out wurm if you are feeling frisky and don't mind terrible graphics, or as always there is a savior on the horizon (AA, Repop, or EQ).

If it's anything like DF1 (which it probably is), Clan Leaders don't make any decisions regarding the placement of any buildings in a Clan City. You simply need all the materials, select the building you want to create, and the building rises from the ground at a predetermined location (by the developers). The same goes for walls and all that fluff boxes they have.
Ah, I would imagine it is the same in DFUW (I've been playing, but at a relatively casual pace so I have not yet seen a player city in person). Wish it was more like Shadowbane, where you could place everything where and how you wanted. What that game lacked in crafting it made up for in city customization.

Bulding isn't what you think, this isn't interactive building where you go out and make a wall for the clan. Your clan takes over a city, destroying it, building structures is expensive and a team effort to gather the materials. A trusted crafter makes the mods and an officer raises the structure, which are preplanned and non movable. They have function but its not like mine craft where you put it where ever ect.
Housing is more for the bindstone and collecting random items. You can bind other players to your house. Housing is expensive and limited in avaliblity...so unless you get lucky or farm a ton of gold forget about playing house. However you can find people to bind you to their house to use it as a secondary recall..which is what its good for tbh.
No flying.
Crafting is vital, its worthwhile in progression. You get prowress which is xp for crafting and harvesting, lots, which you can then dump into combat. Crafting is skill on use so you wont gimp your crafting by doing this. Full loot game and no gear repairing means gear is constantly being lost or broken.
Its a very open world and there are pvp hotspots, once you learn where the hotspots are you can avoid or prepare for it. Don't play this game is losing easily replacable stuff makes you rage, don't play if you are not interested in learning how to pvp since you will suck as a new player and continue to suck with a high skilled toon until you learn how to do it right, high learning curve. FPS and MMORPG pvp expertise doesn't carry over as much as you would have hoped.
There is a lot of grind if that's what you consider it to be. Its a game where you farm for stuff. The passive quest system will have you killing over 100 of various mobs. You can sit there and hate every second or farm those mobs for what they are worth and pace yourself, looting everything skinning the mobs and building a bank. Game is very political metagame based, get into a clan and get active with them.
Its done that way on purpose becaause if you could choose where to place everything we would get multie tiered cities with all the crafting station right next to the bank... For balance reasons, its best to make city customization fairly static.
