I have been playing wow for a year now and after so long I am looking for a new game to play. Now this is not about WoW so lets not talk about it anymore. Here is what Im looking for.
Im not a pvp player. I have always liked pve. How are the pve servers and does the no pvp in those servers really take away from it. If I choose pvp server will I still have fun or do I need to worry about someone killing me around every corner when I want to explore and quest.
How is the depth of the game. What about end game content and leveling. How fast does it take to level? How many levels are there. I want a game where I can level at my leisure and still get good items for being a casual player. I dont want to have to rely on playing hours at a time for an instance or dungeon since I dont have the time for that. I know the graphics are good and there are a lot of races and classes to choose from so that sounds good. Playing housing soungs fun, how is that in this game.
Any other info would be helpful. Thanks.

i don't think there are pve or pvp servers in this game. i could be wrong though.
its all pve and then you go to a certain area to pvp. the other factions or realms in DAOC can't get your realm.
i think there are 55 levels. they changed the lveling system a bit so its now easier to level supposedly.
i haven't played for a few years except for last night i tried the trial again and just couldn't get into it.
just play the trial and see for yourself. its the best way to decide.
Max level is 50, not 55.
There are several different server types to choose from. The standard/regular servers as Ashkent described. Or if you are a PvE Junkie you can play on Gaheris which is our Cooperative server. No PvP at all, all three realms assist each other. Mordred is our PvP server inwhich you can PvP anywhere at anytime. On both of them you can form guilds containing members of all 3 realms. Finally there are the ARS ("classic") servers which operate much like the standard/regular servers but have the content from the Trials of Atlantis expansion removed and there is a grouped/range restriction on buffs to limit buffbots.

* On regular servers and classic servers PvP (RvR) is restricted to contested zones (the frontier) and battlegrounds (without queue). If you decide you donot want to encounter enemy players, you wont. If you do feel like it you can.
* PvP server is full blown PvP, after level 10 you can be killed everywhere.
* PvE server has no PvP at all and a very different endgame. I havent played there so nothing I can say to help you there except for the fact that the PvE server is well known to have an awesome community.
- How is the depth of the game.
* Very very very deep, I havent played any other game with more depth in it. It's depth is found in items and outfitting your toon as well as the path you choose to take your toon plus the toons (players) you play with. I've been playing over two years now and I'm still discovering/learnig new things. Another thing that adds to it's depth is that all three realms are very different from each other. Have a peek here as well: http://www.fromhiberniawithlove.com
- What about end game content and leveling
* Lots and lots of end game content, if you play regular servers there is even a complete leveling path (Master Levels) that gains you new abilities. The endgame on regular and classic servers mainly resolves around fighting the other realms in the frontiers which is very fun and addicting (unless you really really really dont like playing with or against other players).
- How fast does it take to level?
* If you buy DAOC: Epic edition you will have access to all the latest expansions and that makes it quite easy to get to 50. Average will be around 168 hours of play time I'm guessing.
- I want a game where I can level at my leisure and still get good items for being a casual player.
* It all depends on how casual you are. If you are like a casual mmorpg player (2-3 hours a day) then there is no issue at all. But a small word of warning is that Master Level raids for master level abilities at regular servers can sometimes take quite some time but it all depends on how good a raid leader is. All MLs are doable within 2 hours if led properly. If this scares you off choose the classic servers. But some of the most beatifull and challenging PvE is found in Trails of Atlantis a region that is not accesible on classic servers.
- Playing housing soungs fun, how is that in this game.
* Cool, also allows for your own personal merchant that makes money for you. One downside to it though is that there are only 4 models of houses (they all look the same). Interior and garden can be fully customized though and is a lot of fun to do.
Something I have always wondered is why people who don't like PVP want to play on the "pure PVE" servers. (yes, there are "cooperative" servers, which are pure pve)
Even on the RVR Enabled servers you don't ever have to go to RVR. You can enjoy the game completely without EVER having to fight another player, if you so desire. That being said, RVR *is* a lot of fun.... even for folks who don't normally like PVP. There is NOTHING to lose by goofing off in RVR from time to time.... and a lot to gain actually
But if you want to play on the cooperative servers they are certainly fine to play on and there's more than enough PVE content that you won't be hurting for things to do.
But I know numerous hard-core PVE players that play on the normal servers because they do enjoy hopping into RVR every once in a blue moon just for a change of pace from the ol' monster slaying.
As to how long it takes to hit max level? That depends *entirely* upon your playstyle. If you only play an hour or so a day it will, obviously, take longer than someone playing 4-7 hours a day. It will also, obviously, take longer for someone who is truely spending time doing (and reading) the quests than it will for someone who is ripping through the quest text without reading it just to get the quest and then using spoiler sites to get the quest done as quickly and efficiently as possible.
For a true 'power-leveller' (note I did not say power-gamer) you can easily hit 50 within 4-7 "days" of time. (that's 4-7 24hr days (roughly 100-150 hours). If you're a more 'casual' player it'll probably take more like 8-14 'days' of play time.
Either way, not very long in the grand scheme of things. In EQ2 it takes a lot longer to hit max level. In WoW it takes a little less time (which is why they are starting to experience player-churn actually). This is because the end-game in DAoC isn't reaching 50.... it's RVR... which only REALLY gets started for real once you hit 50 Though the battlegrounds you can play in up till 45 are quite good as well.

Just to comment myself on this aspect...
I was never much for PvP myself before I started playing DAoC. Every prior experience I had in it in the fantasy genre was usually bad. But DAoC Realm vs. Realm combat takes all the pain out of the process that one usually finds in MMORPGs. I don't do RvR a whole lot myself, mainly because I play on older system and my framerate tends to drop to unplayable levels in the frequent large battles there. I can assure you however, that despite my prior aversion to PvP of any type, if I had a better, more up-to-date system to play on, I'd spend at least as much time in the frontiers battling the enemy as I would in PvE. And I do frequently fight in the battlegrounds where the numbers are managable even on my older system, and love it.
Also, as stated above, while the Gaheris (the cooperative server) community is great, to me personally it seems like just an interesting distraction where one can see what the strengths of various classes from all three realms are without having to be on the receiving end of those strengths . It's entirely possible to play on a normal server however and never once step foot into any of the RvR areas and still have an enjoyable playing experience. In my guild we have people who love RvR and do it as much as they can, people who like a mix of both RvR and PvP (like myself) and people who absolutely abhor RvR, even as painless as it is in DAoC. The only thing you miss out on in not RvRing on a normal ruleset server is Realm Abilities, purchased with points gained from acheiving Realm Levels in RvR. While these are very desirable for most classes, they're not absolutely essential and you won't suffer enormously from not having them. They're certainly well worth having however .
I would advise starting out on a normal server, leveling up to 22-24, and going out in Thidranki (the battleground for that level range) with some experienced players who are willing to show you the ropes, then making a judgement from there. I've seen many a new player who professed a strong distaste for PvP turn into a rabid RvRer upon experiencing it, so don't count it out until you give it shot. And, if you try it and still don't like it, well, you have the option of either moving to Gaheris or continuing to play where you are and simply not RvRing. That's one of the beauties of this game...there's nothing that you HAVE to do...only options you can pursue or not as you choose .
EDIT : I didn't take the time to go back and read every prior post, but just to answer one that jumped out at me...
The only server where you have to watch over your shoulder at all times is Mordred, the PvP ruleset server, where any player can attack you at any time once you're high enough level...level 10 I believe it is. On the normal servers your realm mates cannot attack you unless you agree to engage in a duel, something that cannot happen by accident, you have to type a command to /duel challenge or /duel accept even to do that. So no, that's nothing to worry about.
