One point that kids growing up these days is that the rest of the world just doesn't care.
For example, me personally, I don't care what happens to anyone beyond friends/family. I laughed when Katrina happened and looked eagerly for "damage numbers" when sandy hook happened.
That being said, I'm trying to point out a few things. We don't care about your income, your debt, your sexuality, your race...we really don't care about much of anything about you.
This isn't a soapbox post but down-to-earth truth.
Think about it for a second...when does "caring" start for most people? When you guys decide to bring up point a,b,c. Then as soon as the discussion is over it's gone like dust in the wind. No ideas, no views changed, nothing.
What happens in your head as to how anything is or should be...is in your head only...it doesn't effect life nor should it. Everything you think and do is of yourself- it's you and has no effect on me until you do/say something to me.
Just my 2 cents.

There's a huge difference between not being emotionally involved and having a complete lack of empathy.

Edit: Instead of a my former, snarky response, I will take the bait and seriously address your post.
The mere fact that you posted this on a public forum says that you do "care" about others outside your family and friends. If you didn't care, you wouldn't have taken the time to share your perspective with us. However, because you did make this post-- it shows that you desire some sort of validation or interaction with others.
Just pointing out that not everyone out there is PR or tries to be PR.

What does that even mean?
If the idea presented is sound in both logic and reason then I`ll adjust my thinking and adopt the new idea.
When I was a child saying that there were 8 planets in our solar system was incorrect.
I didn't decide that Pluto shouldn't be a planet someone else did and presented their idea and I think that it`s a correct idea.
There are 8 planets in our solar system.
As far as you enjoying the misery of other people, I can`t relate to that... But that`s the point isn`t it? It's what we can relate to on a personal level that makes us feel empathy towards other people - even strangers on tv. You can't relate to their suffering either because you are not capable of it due to illness or more likely because you've never yourself suffered the loss of close friends and family, you don't own any property, and you are not dependent on others nor are they dependent on you. I remember a time when I had no property to lose, no life losses felt and no mouths to feed or backs to cloth and protect; and, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I laughed when I saw suffering on TV, I certainly didn't feel it the way I do now. Wait for it, because it`ll happen to you and instead of giggling like a little girl when you see people injured you`ll feel their suffering and you might even feel the urge to alleviate some of it.
Why don't you do what everyone else does and post your political nonsense in the form of YouTube comments.
