    They became illiterate.

Why are you generalising the RIFT in game community with the whole mmo community?

Sure on RIFT people talk a lot about WoW but not many of them are kids. For as long as I played RIFT, it had a quite mature community.

To prove that the talks about WoW are on every chat in every game you have to use more than only screenshots from RIFT.

I played a bunch of games in which WoW was casually mentioned by only a few people but the real debates were about the F2P mmos available. In the WoW case, those who mentioned it were mainly ignored and the whole subject was forgotten.

That's what you should do if it bothers you so much, just ignore it. You can't change it so you either deal with it and live your life or join it.

Oh no, we certainly had these guys on forums back before the turn of the century, too.

Try EVE online ... the game is not kid / ADD mentality friendly and has a much older player base.

up to the 70s, my corp logistics guy (and a titan pilot)  is currently 69.

No talk from him about last night's raid but actually normal talk on comms as friends.

It's refreshing I can assure you.

First of all all those chat screen shots show it all took place in the lvl 1-29 chat channel. If you think that didn't happen when the game was new then I'm afraid you're delusional. I remember seeing it all the time. Once you get past the 1-29 chat though you almost never see it.

Keep in mind the lvl1-29 chat is full of the free to lvl 20 players so you're always going to see it there.

Well in case you were not around Wow garnered 65% of the entire MMORPG player base at one time,so why would  you not expect Wow to be the main focus of most discussions?

I mean seriously, they had that Tornado down in the States, that was the main topic on every news station,it is to be expected is it not?

BTw as to community,i USED to be a person that didn't think it mattered much UNTIL i  joined WOW.I came directly from playing FFXi >EQ2>Wow .I  joined Eq2 first of course since it came out just prior to Wow.I soon realized that community does matter and things i started to see really turned me off.

I was actually turned off by both EQ2 and Wow.

Eq2 was the first time i had seen WTS and WTB spammed all over chat.Bickering over EQ1 versus EQ2,Chuck Norris jokes, your mom jokes.Wow was the exact same stuff only even more of the nonsense.I enter Wow the first day to see choo choo trains emotes going on,i was like wtf is this a haven for 12 year olds?

My first day in Wow was an incredible turnoff, even to this day 10 years later,i witnessed more childish behavior in my first day of Wow than 10 years in FFXI.Oh yes i have seen change,i see some stuff i don't like in FFXI as well, but Wow took the cake from every game i have ever played.

The reason was really quite simple,DSL was NOT cheap in it's early years and neither were PC's,so pretty much only adults had it.As soon as DSL and PC's became a regular affordable household item, all the kids started joining the MMO craze, that is also why Wow got so many gamer's.There was a MASSIVE influx of new players to the MMORPG genre during those years.
