November 14, 2005, Sony Online Entertainment shut down their MMORPG "Star Wars Galaxies" . No refunds were offered to existing players, no apologies or statements have been issued by SOE, instead SOE has created an entirely new game and is offering existing players to beta test this bug-filled game for a monthly fee of $15/month and will continue to bill existing credit card accounts for this beta testing. Requests have been made to the Attorney Generals of all 50 states and to the Federal Governement for investigation of the legality of billing people for something they did not authorize SOE.
A general boycott of all Sony products has been called for this Holiday season. People are being asked to purchase brands other than Sony for any product that Sony makes. Copies of receipts are being mailed to Sony Corporate Headquarters, 6-7-35 Kitashinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo 141-0001, Japan.

Yeah you have fun with that. On a sidenote, why do you guys get so emotional about these games. I get that MMORPG"s are rather immersive and addicting but come on. Lets chill it and calm down. So they've ruined "your" game to hell. Ok and you've spent time hating em for it and all and a few forum posts and whatnot, but seriously its a game. Besides, SOE is probably (this is speculation) a completely different branch than other Sony products such as cameras, PSP (which I have ), and whatever else electronics. Sueing SOE is really a rather overboard, emotional frenzy-like thing to do IMHO. But yeah, you guys go on with your crusade to destroy SOE and whatnot .
Im guesing you missed the section of the Terms and Conditions for being a member of these forums that clearly states : "No poster will suggest in any way that another posters chosen MMO is Only a game"
If you wish to act rationally and sensibly in relation to MMO's I suggest you do it on another forum.

Whoa well yeah I did actually miss that. Sorry on my part, but is that last sentence sarcasm or was it just in relation to the rules you posted.
I think I'll buy a Sony mp3 player for Christmas.

SWG went to hell .. we all know that buuut, lets just leave the game and not say anything more : )
yay
You must have missed the warning on EVERY MMO box.
Game content may change over time.
well..its sad like 2 days after i starting playing SWG again they up[dated it to NGE...now i have 4 months left and...well....omg they screwed up the game. it went form like a billion classes to 5 and its a linear path i can now not compare its skill system to UO thus it is not pro any more.
LOL or in this case Overnight hehehehe
And Bobbler....
Im not sure if you have read Smedly's adresss to the foaming masses... but here is an excerpt.
-----------------
"The consistent feedback we recieved through this research showed us where the problems were. Here are the top 3 issues:
1) Difficult to get into - too complicated. People didn't understand what all the professions were, and the interface was just plain hard.
2) Combat wasn't exciting enough
3) Game wasn't "Star Warsy" enough. The professions issue also showed itself here."
http://swg.stratics.com/content/news/GeneralNews.php
--------------------
1) Yeah the game was too complicated thats true.... If your a GIBBERING #$^@!^ IMBECILE THAT IS! SWG was in no way a complex game. In fact the most consistent complaint of launch players (like myself) was that once you cracked the skin there was nothing underneath. The one thing you could never accuse the game of was complexity. Now its just an arcade shooter, a joke...
2) Combat was not exciting enough thats true. Putting a crosshair on the screen has not improved that.
3) The main reason the game wasnt star warsy enough was not that it was lacking a picture of Mark Hamil on the character creation screen, but rather that the rampant exploitation of every bug ridden system caused things like being able to level your weapon skils to the top whilst AFK and being able to drag a Rancor into town that stood there like some stupid scaley puppy dog. I could go on but its not worth it...
SWG was broken at launch, wrecked by the CU and utterly destroyed by the NGE. I wouldnt have thought it was possible to destroy so many people's idea of the ultimate MMO based on the ultimate franchise... But SOE/LA have managed to pull it off.
-------------------
The following data is from the Poll run on SWG Stratics from Nov 16th to Nov 21:
Stratics Poll...Do you like the new game changes, NGE?
- No 4462 82.60 %
- Yes 940 17.40 %
TOTAL 5402 100 %
I took part in the Poll, I voted no. I will post my own review of the NGE soon, for now though, excuse me, I am downloading WoW.

Just one little, itsy, bitsy, item you forgot to mention.........
BOTH sony AND LucasArts are to blame for the current state of SWG. Actually, LucasArts even more then Sony. Every single thing in SWG must first be OK'd by LucasArts. LA has also in the past done things related to SWG without telling Sohy. So if you want to get to the bottom of the problem, go all the way to the source - LucasArts.

Can you link even one interview or artcal that shows LA having any input on SWG ? I'm not saying it isn't there but in all the changes I've seen happen to SWG I've never seen LA once say anything about it. It's alwasy SOE making the statment. Yet some people blame LA for everything wrong with SWG.
This wasn't a flame but I've asked before and the person couldn't or didn't link anything.
