Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
So many haters, can't wait to read all the well written posts when eqnext getting nearer. It is going to be an awesome hater vs lover battle and not at all shadow any real conversation.
I think the dev team would want to try get a name not containing 'Everquest' because they are trying to "make something completely different". Managment and sales will want to use Everquest because that name alone will sell copies.
I am betting that 'Norrath' will be a part of the title in some way. I think "Everquest: Return to Norrath" as others mentioned is a very good prediction. Also they already started to hype under the name "Everquest Next", so completely changing the title at this point would cause confusion and not be a smart marketing move.. although SoE works in mysterious ways so :P

Kind of like the summer of 2004, then?
Here's the thing: it's kind of fun, early on, to snipe away at the hype already building up. Particularly when it's coming (so often) from guys who told us what a bad bad thing hype was for the last five or six (or more) titles.
Themepark hype, that's badd-d-ddd. Sandbox hype, that's really ok
Vaporware fan worship, that's baaddd-d-ddd. Smedley fan worship, that's really ok
Omg MMORPG.com staff clearly pushing these GW2 articles down our throats, that's baaddd-d-dddd. Their obvious glee and oh-boy-EQN (fapfap) immediately following the Titan announcement, that's really ok
All the same, as much as I like sniping away at obvious fanboy-isms, of any variety, particularly contradictory ones...I kind of hope EQN does all right. The industry needs another 'win'. On the other hand, skeptically suspect Smed, always, particularly in the vapor stages.

It is always referred to as Next or EQN by all of the developers so I would not be surprised if the name stuck. You have had all of this build up and press with the "Next" name and they say they are trying to revolutionize the modern MMO, so it makes some sense to just leave it named Next.

They should change the name entirely. Everquest is fitting for a themepark quest grinder, not "the biggest sandbox in the history of gaming". Of course it won't happen since EQ is the brand name.
They'll most probably get real creative and call it Everquest 3...
except EQ was neither themepark nor quest grinder.

Wow Killer!
no really I am fine with EQ next.
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
except EQ was neither themepark nor quest grinder.
EQ1 = no catchy subgenre name
EQ2 = themepark
EQN = sandbox
seems pretty fitting to keep the name to me
I actually think EQ Next should stay
Of course there is always Everquest 3: Everquest harder, Everquest with a Vengeance, A Good Day to Everquest or Live (Play) Free and Everquest
^^ This right here
