Oddly, housing may have kept me playing WoW, or brought me back if they had implemented it. One of the best features of EQ2 is housing, I LOVE getting various "trophies" from long and/or difficult quests, raids, and various strong mobs. It's a weird thing too, b/c it doesn't sound like it's a big deal, but there's something about having visual representation of various conquests and achievements that you can place in a space, all your own, that other players can come in and check out, it's just neat.
That is one area Blizzard has seriously missed the bus on. At this point I am guessing that the engine must not be capable of player housing, either that, or the WoW devs just consider housing to be something less important than the 36th set of "epic" gear that doesn't even drop anymore, and must be bought w/ tokens....
Amusingly, the article linked to also contains a link to an RMT-related site
Wonder what will happen next...
someone is severely out of the loop on current events
(Titan pushed back, unannounced new feature in next patch)
...And your faith in your friends is yours.
Wait, what.

In all seriousness, it's doing what the fans want that brought about Cataclysm, what with the massive petitions of asking for flight in Azeroth. It's also listening to old Warcraft fans that got us the Pandaren (not that it's a bad thing, but some still don't like it). The only real disappointment whereby they let fans down so far (enmass) is with Diablo III and the no Lan. It destroyed that modding community, and was a slap in the face when they announced offline and no auction house on the console version. Still, hard to say it wasn't a success since it sold almost 13 million copies to date.
Most of the changes in 5.3 were also wrought by fans demanding things. At this point I kind've want them to stop giving the fans what they want when it comes to WoW, and consider giving us Warcraft IV and amd offline/lan/auction house-less new server on Diablo III with a new expansion.
Blizzard listened best to their players just look what Blizzard have done for all those forums warriors who hated the 1 percenters who tackled contend.
From TBC up all they did was listen to the cry baby's ^^
Now you can even solo your way to epic gear on your own little instance !!!
Housing will also be done, when popoulation drops below 5 million.
Blizzard implements a feature I enjoy = "Blizzard really listened to their fans and put ___ in the game."
Blizzard implements a feature I am neutral about = "Blizzard never listens to their fans and gives them what they really want. They just waste their resources on these features no one wants or cares about."
Blizzard implements a feature I despise = "OMG!!! Blizzard is actively trying to kill WoW!!! This will cost them another 2 million subscriptions, easily!!! This game is nothing like it was at launch (even though I only started playing late in the Lich King cycle)!!! Can't wait for Wow killer ___!!!"
Blizzard = $till Profiting. "Who's on deck with the next $parkle Pony for the Ca$h $hop?"
Truth.
Not exactly the same as theoretically selling a major WoW city, but I'm surprised they haven't started naming stuff in game from corporate sponsors, kinda like sports arena, Fed Ex Field, Staples Center, ETC.
I can totally see in the worlds largest MMO the EA Undercity, Walmart's Orgrimmar, Target's Stormwind City.
Blizzard listens to one thing.. The $$Dollar$$.
If they can give epics away to keep their subscriptions up they would.. oh wait, that's exactly what they do.
If they can dumb down content so badly that even the most casual player can complete it all, to keep their subscription up they would.. Oh wait, that's exactly what the did.
You see where I'm going with this.
Lets see your Battle Stations /r/battlestations
Battle Station
A little bit of WoW history. When Blizzard decided to work on an MMO the original iteration was a PvP game and the lead dev was Jeff Strain who headed up the formation of Arena Net and went on to make the original Guild Wars. Blizzard wasn't sure how it would pan out and they started looking at EverQuest. EverQuest was originally designed do be a QUEST based game, hence the name. Not a raid based game.
Due to the complexity of the quest system for EQ coupled with the fact that the game just didn't give enough "hints" to promote the questing/role playing aspects of the game, people gravitated to what was under their noses, which was leveling and loot. More raids got added in. Blizzard devs took note as at the time EQ was the number 1 MMO in the continental U.S. with only DAoC and AC as real competitors.
Blizzard hired EQ uber guild leaders to be their devs. Blizzard talks about lore and even role playing in the context of a role playing game from time to time, but none of it means a thing in the grand spectrum of the game because raiding and role playing in the context of a role playing game doesn't mean a thing when you hide critical parts of your story in a raid that most people will never even see once. This however is also why Blizzard devs for the most part only listen to uber guilds.
Sadly, this is also why WoW will never truly be a real "role playing game". You don't hire ubers and powergamers who don't understand role playing fundamentals to design a role playing game. What you wind up with is what EQ devolved into and games like WoW and many of their clones. Modern MMO's by and large have become a huge disappointment.
