Would be fun to play E&B again, so can you really run an E&B server?

    MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.

I'm also very interested in whether or not it's legal to run an Earth & Beyond server. If you can do that, then you could run a server for any dead game. Right now that would be limited to AC2 and E&B. However, this also opens the door for the modding of dead games which could be used as a poor man's graphical MUD.

It seems to easy. There has to be a catch that would prevent you from doing this. Maybe you should quietly put your team together and not announce it until the project is completed with the source distributed to as many people as possible.

I'm sure EA still owns the right to the name and such but since this group wouldn't be making any money and it obviously doesn't hurt EA sales...it seems dumb for it not to be legal. But then again logic isn't always part of the law...

Well, in the US copyrights are good for the lifetime of the company +50 years... at least with books.

Anyways, 't'would be kickass if E&B was ressurected. Just uh...don't say anything about the team members once it's going...that's how these things go down-hill very fast. ::::20::

hehe Project R.E.A.B. aint whatcha think of like that :P I intend to do what EA never bothered to do and thats to tell the world about it I intend to ressurect it not just by flogging a bag of cash with the dollar sign on it but by using the old 70's phrase.....

    Power To the People!!!!!

Ah E&B was a fun game with great graphics, but after just a month (I joined a month after it went live) I was done with the game as I had explored the whole galaxy and was delagated to running endless ultra boring/repeating missions. Had it had a lot more content id definately play it for a much longer time.

EnB was my first MMO too, and it was a lot of fun, though after getting to Grandmaster, there wasn't much left to do. However, I've found that EVE is very similar to EnB, only HUGE and with far more depth. EnB nostalgia buffs might take a run at a resurrection, but I think EVE fills the gap very very nicely.

Good luck with your E&B project.

If you are so inclined, come check out Eve Online, we have tons of E&B veterans and they seem to be happy here.

Use of EnB code is illegal and EA already said they will not release their code for public use and if anyone is caught with a free server they will seek monetary damages and pursue conviction of the individual to the largest amount allowable under US law.

thats just fineprint for .. "we cant do shit against you but plz plz plz dont make server pls plss!1!11one!!nine"

if EA games would be able to do anything against free severs they would have killed the thousands of UO servers

yeah but wasn't microsoft helping with that if I remember correctly? such as Microsofts Run UO or UO gateway? ::::12::

Count me in!! I'm so tired of fighting trolls and elves it's rediculous! I miss my ship. Ya ya Eve this Eve that, they're not even close to being similar. I beta'd Eve and played after launch for a while. Eve is like a job. EnB was just good 'ole fun. The EnB community is what it made the game really cool to me. The market channel was ALWAYS entertaining LOL image

"...anyone is caught with a free server they will seek monetary damages..."
    ?damages???
If they had a server up and running instead of locking it in a vault, then yeah sure I can see where the damages might be, but atm...?
By the way do u have a site for this yet?
