[Interview] Defiance: Saving the Game from the Plague

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The latest in a series of cross over events between Defiance the television show and Defiance the MMO is about to begin. We caught up with Senior Game Designer Trick Dempsey to talk about the plague update. See what he had to say before heading to the comments to discuss!

MMORPG: How will this affect the TV show, more than a normal episode story-arc?

Trick Dmpsey: The town of Defiance is not equipped to handle Phase 4 of the disease. Their weapons are not as advanced as those in San Francisco, and their lawkeeper forces are not equipped with EGOs. In short, a prolonged outbreak in Defiance would destroy the town. When the first symptoms appear in Defiance, ark hunters in the bay will not have long at all to prevent a phase 45 outbreak in Defiance.

Good stuff. I like the tie-ins with the show, which seems pretty good in its own right.

    Also:

The latest in a series of cross over events between Defiance the television show and Defiance the MMO is about to being.

Pretty sure that should be "begin".

the game is actually pretty damn good.

there are undoubtedly things i would like to see added, more mmorpg stuffz, but aside from that i have unwittingly racked a pile of hours lately playing.

I find it interesting that MMORPG rating is 6.6 and user rating is 8.0. Usually it is the opposite.  People on the forums complain how MMORPG rates games too highly.  They actually give a lower rating to a game and the community disagrees.

um, is cross over the same as what people do in the game world effects the show? Or is it an "event" launching with the episode?

btw good interview. "Just answer the D$#$ QEUSTION MAN!" lol

So... if the players don't defend the nanotec and the cure isn't made, then the Defiance TV show folds, the west coast and the game folds.  Because of that the developers are fired.  Dang, pressure is on.  You hold their jobs in your hands.  You better participate NOW MAN!  RIGHT NOW!

Only 130 people bothered to rate this game, so the sample is relatively small. So a few boosters with multiple accts could really pump up the rating in this case. Frankly, for a mediocre game, with very little to actively dislike (and very little to really like, either) that is not very surprising. It is so bland, that not many care enough to give it low ratings.

This game really needs to go F2P soon

Population is non-existent compared the Steam free weekend

  • aspekxaspekx Member UncommonPosts: 2,167
im afraid some of the population problem is their server phasing.

Shouldn't the title read "Saving the game from the lack of players and profit" boom boom!

This game looks 100x better on the computer than the xbox I think.

All my friends unfortunately own xboxes and don't have money for "good" computers so I ended up playing it on my xbox...granted my computer "rocks" somewhat and I could play max settings, but I guess friends are where it is at!

Looks so "eyepopping" though in that screenshot, wish that is what I saw on my xbox...

EoN never made it to daylight, Rift going F2P, Defiance already belly up before the printing on the box has dried incl. 80% layoffs...

Guess someone at Trion's HQ thought that if everything else fails,  jump on the zombie bandwagon and perhaps you save the day.

Shame this game took so long to actually have some interesting stuff going on in it.  Last I played it was 5 episodes into the series and still had hardly any tie-in content minus some dumb pursuits, with people dropping like flies.  From a clan that had over 50 active players in the first few weeks to about 5-10 the last week I played, just pretty sad.

I think this game is really fun, but I've been playing solo. Anyone in a clan or guild that I could join?

I cry when I see how bad gaming has become. Took me 5min to figure this one out, rather spend a weekend in a caravan, buried in sand, with Bill Murphy as bunkmate.

    The horror -_-

The Game is a lot of fun, the comments about flopping are crap. There is never a wait to get into a co-op and I always see players no matter where I am. stop the BS. There is always the some jack-ass here on this site saying "its failing", and its a load of non proven BS. Just shut up and play. If you don't like it, don't play. Stop intentionally ruining it for those who are having fun!
