Combat

Has anyone played the game yet?

What kind of combat is the game going to have?

Most importantly..is combat fluid and entertaining?

Its my firm belief that games like this live and die based on their combat.  Clunky placeholder combat is what kills sandboxes (this is a sandbox right? or is this a themepark with a sandbox ride or two?)

This game had modest hype a while back, seems to have died down, not sure if that's because they started beta and it wasn't as good as people expected.  I typically avoid F2P games so I haven't been following, however I may be able to endure the casino cash shop for a good sandbox.

As I haven't been following the game im not sure if its undergone any player testing or how accurate the Q4 2013 launch expectation is.

Im mostly concerned about combat in the game, if its AAA combat (don't care if its tab target or FPS combat so long as its good and entertaining)...or if we are getting a MO/Earthrise/Dawntide/Xyson style combat that's junky and broke.

Not long ago a bunch of 'alpha' invites went out more are to follow but there is no sustained player testing going on just another small alpha test right now. They plan on doing several alpha testing phases with players leading up to beta. As far as combat goes will be FPS or tab targeting depending on what you prefer and how good will the combat be dunno yet.

I believe it has both tab target and kind of fps/tab combat you can use either.

We have only seen some early alpha footage of the combat so far so we have no idea what it will be like on release.

MYself I dont mind how the combat looks or feels as long as I have fun playing the game and infact thats the same with any game for me.. Having fun is the only thing that matters.

Repop is a sandbox with a themepark ride or two :)

I'm not the best person to ask about combat given that I work way more than I play, but the above posters are correct, we have Action mode, an FPS-sim, and RPG mode, standard sticky targeting. You can switch between with a button press (and switching, btw, is very fluid). Right now combat is good but the system isn't perfect, most animations chain together well, but we're also still in alpha so we do have the occasional hiccup. If you play in Action Mode, even now you won't see many issues because most of combat is smooth, weapon switching in combat is fluid (minus the swap time, but that's by design), posture changes are good, active dodging works well, but we do have some work still to be done and we know that. My biggest pet peeve right now is jumping, but it's getting fixed :)

The most recent video to highlight some combat is the PAX East teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saHaPfAfFGk

All in all, given that we are still in alpha, I'm happy with the combat and I'm a pvper so combat is important to me too. The devs have said combat is still getting some love, so while it's solid now, it will get even better. Hopefully this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask :)
