Anybody wonder what happens to Xbox One when MS moves on to a new system in the future???

bbethelbbethel Member UncommonPosts: 201

The big problem i have with Xbox One is what happens when its 15 years down the road and you want to take out your xbox one and play your old system?

Right now i can still play my nintendo, turbograpix, Xbox, ps2 ect...... and in 15 years i can take them out of a box again and do the same.

With Xbox One will i be able, once microsoft decides to turn off the servers in the future to still play my games?

If the answer to any of these I will not be buying a Xbox One. I have over 100 Xbox 360 games and close to a 100 1st  Xbox games. I do own a ps3 but only have 4 games. This is the main reason i will not be buying a Xbox One. I have a great internet service and im online all the time so that part does not bother me its just what happens to my system in the future is my main worry.

I have a 3 year old and when he is older i would love to take out my old systems and show him what games use to be like.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

    You're part of the problem.

This is a valid concern, with the console being 100% online, it means it has a finite lifespan, it means when the company no longer feels like spending money to maintain the console the console and all of its games are officially dead.

2 weeks ago i dusted off my nintendo 64 and played mario party with a friend, it sounds like 10 years down the road when XBOX two comes out or whatever asinine name they have in mind for it, i wont have that option.

Microsoft has officailly made the windows me of gaming consoles, it will last a few years then something new will come out and we will all pretend it never happened.

Well if Sony's purchase of Gakai works out liek ti hopes successfully then I'm sure Microsoft will copy that shit in the blink of an eye and backwards compatibility issues will be a thing of the past.Of course it may require you to buy games you own on that service again...we'll see how Gakai handles that.

Hackers could be the saving grace of the system in those heady days of 15 years post Xbox One launch via Xbox One EMU software or hardware that tricks the unit into thinking it's still talking to the Microsoft servers.

Good ol' Steam.... I love it when I play a game for 5 or 6 hours and it messes up and totally fails everything I've saved..

Microsoft thinks this is a good idea.. What they have essentially is their own version of steam on their new X-Box One..

I hate to say it but i am leaning on the ps4 side this gen.

That is why i have all my systems since the nindendo. I love going back and playing the old systems for a weekend. I cant wait to do that with my kids with the new gen console (ps4)too.

You mothball the system and all its games, then go out and buy the next version XBONEX2 and all new games for it.

Since when was enjoying something for a few years equal to 15 years?

No one can say, but I imagine you could still connect and use the Xbox1, even if they have 1-2 new systems in 15 years.

All you need is your account name and password and your game list should still be there when you start up the Xbox: Titan

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
