Like the tie in to eve but do we really need another shooter?  Please remind me why this and not WOD again?

I wonder how many of these were lost to Red Rings of Death (Xbox 360) and Yellow Rings of Death (PS3)

Why is everything that CCP does a "success" Dust is both a flop and terrible to play.

1500-2000 players online is what I experience during the week I tried it. It's not really special as a shooter, in fact, it's pretty poorly done. And it's rpg elements are mediocre.

There's no immediate thought of taking it to the PS4 outside of "something they would like to do."

Putting a game who's parent is on PC on a console right before the next gen of consoles launches, takes an amazing thought process. I really couldn't explain what they were thinking.

And if you look at the next gen shooters, I'm not sure what console player is going to bother with Dust.

Destiny, The District, Titanfall, Halo 5, Wolfenstein, CoD, BF4 . . . I'm sorry, outside of EVE lovers who also happen to be FPS fans (does anyone have a venn diagram showing that overlap?) why would anyone find Dust 514 worthy of playing?

Honestly I tried this game several times during "beta" and just couldn't get into it. It has one of the more awkward interfaces I've ever seen. The business of going from your quarters to the drop ship and then on to the battle takes so long and just eats up game time.

The controls really feel as though CCG...er...CCP wanted to make this on a PC with a mouse and keyboard. The upgrade/equipment loadout interfaces is a pain in the ass with a controller.

Personally I don't mind the graphics. It feel a lot different than most other FPS's out there and I like it.

The class rolls are just pointless though and most fights come down to a CoD twitch fest. It doesn't seem to matter that I'm decked out in heavy armor with a big ass gun, any generic character with an SMG and rip right through me and soak up the damage my gun does. And as usual just like every other FPS out there...snipers rule the game.

I see hope for it, so I'll keep checking in.

Maybe to CCP the thousand or so EVE online players playing dust is a huge success in their minds.

If that was their idea of success, then why didn't they just make it for PC where their playerbase already exists?

It probably wasn't at first.. They naively thought Dust would appeal to the console fps gamer and its just amusing how its the EVE online gamers thats keeping dust afloat for the time being.

Dust will also have allot of competition.

Dust came out too late and on the wrong platform, whether it was ever going to turn into a decent game, doesn't really matter any more, the PS4 is on the imminent horizon and there are so many other much better games going to be on it. As an Eve player, i have zero interest in Dust, as a FPS player, i have zero interest, better ones are already out there on the PC, and while i might end up getting the PS4, probably will in fact... i don't ever see Dust being a part of my future gaming experience. image

I may get flamed here but FPS's are best played on a PC, the controls feel more natural compared.

They wanted to reach out into another market that wasn't the EVE PC player base. This way they could get others into the EVEverse who may have been interested but couldn't fit into the constraints of EVE on the PC. They had clearly stated this at one of the fanfest Q&A. I don't have a direct link but it is probably in one of the uploaded fanfest videos on their youtube page with the DUST514 panel from last year or the year before.

You'll have the devil's own job explaining what constraints the PC has compared to the PS3.  I understand the reason it was not on the 360 was that MS wanted it on their servers, but I'm a bit surprised to hear that the PS3 is considered a more open system than PC.

On top of explaining that, you'd have to explain why EVE or other MMO's do not encounter these "constraints"? Kinda weird.

And wanting to reach out to a new player base is all well and good, but consoles are heavily inundated with shooters. Who on their marketing research team thought that the best market to enter was the most saturated one? It was an intern wasn't it? Damn interns.

They will probubly release a PS4 version with the release of a PS4. So long as both PS3 and PS4 are able to play it i will be happy. Mainly because i wont be getting a PS4 right away for finance reasons. that and i never buy anything fresh out of launch. Bugs suck.

Anyways for the actual game. I like it other than the spawning issue. 9/10 times i spawn im surrounded by enemies only, its a free kill. when i spawn with my team mates i usually get 2-5 kills before getting taken out. not to mention in this game death means gear loss. so i cant play it until that is fixed so i dont waste all my gear. if they gave me something PvE related to play in order to gain credits (and credits only, i dont like the idea of getting spendable stat points from PvE missions in a PvP focused game) i wouldn't mind as much.

    Because i can.

    Logic every gamers worst enemy.

I'm glad its only on consoles. On top of making harder to develop for pc due to large amount of different hardwares. There is also the factor of cheaters on pc. Artificialaiming would've had an aimbot developed before the game's official release. So what? other shooters on PC have cheaters in them too and the games are still going, oh wait! winning and losing in dust514 affects a completely different game. At least that's my addition to why it's no on PC. Also yes it supports mouse and keyboard, gotta say it feels like cheating -.- lol

    I'm waiting for either:

    > PvE (fighting drones), or

    > a more meaningful interaction with the Eve universe before I play this game again.

At the moment, the PvP game is so competitive that you've got to play it like it's a job to feel a sense of achievement.

It's a success because it's a free game. Yes - really - you can be the very best player and not have to pay for anything at all. I kid you not.

(That doesn't mean I'm playing it though!)

I really want to try this game to see how well they combined D514 with EVE. I heard about that at first and thought (if done well) it could be truly incredible. I'm glad to hear that you folks enjoyed it.

I was sad to see that it is just an average shooter in every other regard (something I feared when I first heard about it). I knew it wouldn't have Battlefield's graphics and may have a worse campaign than Planetside 2, but I'm hoping they quickly improve on both after launch. Does anyone know how D514's campaign compares directly to Planetside 2's?

I'll pick up this game when I buy a PS4 later this year.

You could have plugged your mouse and keyboard in.  Dust 514 is one of two PS3 games that supports input from a USB mouse and keyboard (the other being Unreal Tournament 3).

There is no way you can accidently type, "CCG". G and P are so far apart it is impossible.

I had to look at my keyboard to see if P and G were close together lol?!

I like Dust, I only installed it like 10 days ago and so far it's fun. not the best graphics in the world but passable and should improve if the game takes off or even becomes stable.

I'm behind the curve in terms of gear but I don't mind dying and i'm getting to the stage now where my k/d is around even after a few minor upgrades.

I have not come across a single d-bag, seems a good community so far.

Matches are a bit strange at times, i'll join a battle and it will be like 1 vs 2 for a while then all of a sudden a load of people will join one team and it will be 8 vs 2 for ages and it takes too long for the numbers to balance.

Still the majority of maps are fun and have balanced numbers.
