They fit the goofiness of WoW very well..

And Archeage was always this super serious cinematic game right?

It never was. This is just double standards at their finest because "zomg those evil wacky Asians r ruining our uppity western needs"

Let's just put a green orc in the game so the whiners can praise it lol.

i hope that a 'roswell crash' type event in game, followed by an invasion of 1950's style little green men aliens.

They took a pure fantasy game, added tropical shirts,  racing cars, jet packs etc

My point is they couldn't of killed the fantasy setting any more if they tried, and opposite of fantasy is sci fi

I always thought the opposite of fantasy was reality.

    Anyway...

People are voicing opinions, louder and louder, about how there should be innovation in MMOs.  Innovation occurs, people complain about it.  There's no winning any of these arguments; there are only headaches and neck strain from shaking my head.

    a) ArcheAge*

    b) Bits and pieces of technology in ArcheAge are bad, but in games like WoW and GW2.. where is the outrage?

    c) Since when was this game "pure fantasy" and what exactly does that term mean?

    d) If this game lives up to its hype, a friggin mini game with steampunk-ish cars isn't going to have much to do with it.

"I cant believe this KOREAN FANTASY MMO got so weird and offtrack!"

    Really?

  • isslingissling Member UncommonPosts: 162
Maybe it was some of us not doing enough research on the game. When we first found out about Archeage it looked like a kinda sandbox and I know that is a loose term, meets fantasy game. The info at the time had no info on cars, player made context where you can open Starbucks and have rave party and basically turn it into the Sims.

It's these kinds of additions that made me stop playing Aion and TERA. I just don't understand pouring your heart and soul into something for so long, only to throw a bunch of silly pointless shit into it for the sake of a laugh? ....Mind boggling.

Many people speak of archeage as if it has a medieval setting, when in reality it clearly has a renaissance/discovery age setting. From the start this was visible.

Hey so uh.. wasn't sure if you knew this- but ArcheAge is a new fangled thing called a "Video Game". Where it's not reality, and you play it for Entertainment, if not some relaxation from day to day life.

You should try out some of the other new things called Video Games.

Blah don't bother. They'll discredit you as a fanboy even though the very title of the game gives this concept away, but we're all supposed to think it's some static medieval setting regardless of the very clear signs that the game was about discovery and advancement of a nation.

Somehow this game gets crapped on more than any generic Korean MMO even though the idea of it is pretty fresh compared to all of them. I mean fine, feel uncomfortable about the pop culture references If you want, but let's keep the complaints dragging on until it hits he ground, as if it hasn't already. For a game that no one will want to play ever it's still being talked about lol.

I'm more of a virtual world/simulation fan. I want the world to feel epic and immersive, not cheesy. There are plenty of MMO games out there, but not nearly enough world's.

My wife and I are busy people. We have demanding jobs, a beautiful baby girl, a house, cars and all the responsibility that comes with it. The preference of style of game we like to play is in no way relative to our lack of "life". :P

    I agree.

As do I. This is the part of WOW that has most annoyed me over the years. They both have that awkward "let's laugh about this first so that when others start laughing at us we can pretend we were never serious" vibe to them.

yeah I agree during the development everything about the game looked like it was going to be a pure fantasy game, then they added cars, bikinis, tropical shirts and so on lol.. kind of turned it into a joke..

Still I will check they game out when its released over here.

What's wrong with bikinis? :p The problem would be the cars, but what if they just made that as a joke? Really, guys.

I don't understand why some people are making such a big deal about the non-Tolkien fantasy elements of Archeage. Why aren't you people complaining about motorcycles and helicopters in WoW or bikinis and the technology bits of GW2?

Even worse is that people act like the steampunk-like non fantasy elements are something new to Archeage.

If this stuff bothers you then please go play something else. There's really no point in complaining about something that is and has been the core of the Archeage setting from the beginning.

You have no idea how much I just chuckled at that picture.  Throw in some Ray Bans and picture him that way.  Beauty, man.  Beauty.
