Solo PVE question...for the 1000th time - Sorry!

All,

My Hubby purchased WoW for me because I was getting tired of CoH (and I'm not a CoV person), so I've been searching multiple forums for answers to this question:

What is a good Alliance PVE class for casual play (meaning probably a 90/10 split of solo/team play), excluding Hunters?

I'm considering the following:

A NE Rogue, though I heard they are a dime a dozen...

A NE Druid, but I don't know alot about them.

A NE Priest, but I heard their racial priest bonuses aren't very good (though I don't know if I care).

A Human Priest.

That's about it.  I really don't want to play a hunter class or dwarf or gnome racial.  Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.  I guess I like being very subtle (thus no warrior thoughts right now).  Mage?  Hmm, I'm not really sure.

Oh, one last scattered question - does the Night Elf racial ability to stealth "stack" with the rogue stealth abilities, or does it just augment them?

Thanks again everyone...and sorry for the questions! image

the stealth for NE rogues is bette, altho I would recomend you warlock or mage becuase they are good in each way and are very different from other classes!

    Cheers! I'm out ::::28::::

I play a NE druid and they are tons of fun, IMO.

Although it doesn't get real good until you hit level 20 and get cat form.

If you spec in feral mostly you can expect to deal damage real close (if not more) than a rogue, plus you have the option of buffing, healing, and nuking.  A lot of fun and diversity playing a druid.

But if you choose rogue you will get some utility abilites such as Sap, snare,  kick (interrupt spells), vanish (escape),  mind-numbing posion,  expose armor.

Between the 2 you just have to decide if you want to be a healer or have some awesome rogue utility because both do about the same damage at least until you hit 60 than rogues probably outdo you with purple weapons.

    Hope this helps.

For casual play (solo and in group) I'd recommend a Night Elf Druid. They are not best in every aspect but Druids can tank, heal and deal damage quite decently, depending on current need. When I was together with others and no priest was around I did the healing, *if* a priest was around then I went for support healing and damage dealing, and if I was alone I went for tank/heal. So all in all a very versatile class which you can customize well to match your style of play. Also I'd recommend a heavy concentration on the feral skills, plus a few talent points in the healing category.

If you decide to go druid I recommend this build.  It will most likely be my final talent build.

Max damage in feral with some survival talents.

    in short:

Druid - Jack of all trades, can heal, do dmg, tank. Not the best class in any of those, but a great class to replace any of those holes.

Rogue - Best melee DPS, stuns a lot so rogues are very good against casters.

Priest - best healer in this game.

Mage - best DPS in this game, may be rivaled by rogue with epic weapons... barely. Has crowd control

Warrior - best tanker in this game, may do fair amount of dmg if you already have a tank

Paladin - great secondary tank, support unit, backup healer but lack of the amount of combat skills other classes have may prove this char gameplay to be boring.

Hunter - Great soloists, probably best soloists with absouletely no downtime (if played right). Good DPS.

Warlock - Uses DOTs most of the time, good soloer, but requires skill to play effectively

If you only wish to play NE and solo most of the time, then I suggest druid or priest, I hear shadow priests are realy great at higher levels (40+). But any class can solo.

they answered everything else already :) But to make things clear, yes, the Shadowmeld ability stacks with the Rogue stealth and with the Druid's cat form Stealth as well (beign the two the same thing after all).

I confirm that NE Druid is a great solo class as it is so versatile and diverse. Rogues do survive pretty well on their own but then all classes can.

NE Priests do get a really useless Racial Spells, but then priests will get a complete facelift in 1.10 (that could be a good time awhile as 1.9 is not yet out but in testing) including racial priests.... so a more radical difference between the various priests i suppose. Anyhow, if you go priest and plan to solo, Shadow spells are your friends, with good talent specializations, a shadow priest can really do some damage.

Edit: Racial to Racial Spells as i am speaking of the priest racial spell, not the race abilities here.

I'm going to add my vote that you go NE Druid here.  I played an NE Druid to lvl 41 and soloed the majority of it, excepting instances and teaming with guildies.  Had a great time with it.  Versatile for different play styles too.  Only thing I hated was Darkshore after a while, felt like I spent a lifetime there!

What kind of weapons can druids use?

After something like 5 attempts, I finally got the Emberstone Staff at the end of the VC instance for my Druid.  Man was I happy!  I never did bother with maces or the rest, saving for learning the new spells was expensive enough!

yeah well, Staves tends to be caster oriented, so is good to have one for your nuker/healer self.

But two handed maces tends to have hefty bonuses to strength/agility and that is all you need when in bear/cat form. so if you want go feral or use your animal forms often, having some +strength and +agility stuff might help.

Bleh, NE racials suck. My main is an NE priest and they're totally useless. Unless I'm going afk somewhere dangerous I never use shadowmeld. Starshards is an absolute joke, which is the NE priests racial spell. If you're going to be alliance, go Dwarf. If horde, go undead. Best racials in the game until they fix them.

They can use daggers, 1h blunt weapons, 2h blunt weapons, 2h staffs. Generally speaking, they can do a lot of things, so for looking for a solo PVE only solution to WoW, a Druid is a good way to go. Also if you ever want to transition in the future, they are great for PvE raids, as well as in PvP groups. You can shapeshift into other forms like bear form and cat form to your needs during a fight.

Another option for just solo pve I would recommend would be a priest. . . Make a dwarf priest, their racial rocks hehe :)

Thank you all for the replies.  I guess I've sorta narrowed it down to a few choices in no particular order...

    1.  Human or NE Priest

    2.  NE Druid

    3.  Human or NE Rogue

I've also given some consideration to a human mage...but I'm not sure.  I didn't want to play a hunter because they are so common.  I realize that with a million players, every combination has been tried thousands of times.  I'd like to play something that is a little less common, so hunter was out from the start.  It also seems like rogues are very common, and priests possibly too (though I'm not sure here).  Any thoughts to what is and is not so common?  Also, to address one of the earlier posts, I will probably run AFK enough to strongly consider the NE racial (or the rogue stealth ability).  I realize that I can't be a NE mage, thus my limited consideration of the mage class.  Also, a human priest can't easily go AFK whenever, but I like the racial heal that you get at 10.  And as to a dwarf...my girls and I just don't like the way they look!  I know it sounds petty, but if I have to look at something I don't really like for awhile, it will affect me! image  Thanks again for any continued thoughts on the subject! image

If you are looking to play the least common class then definitely make a warlock - tough class to master, not the best DPS but great soloer as well. Barely see any warlocks around. Also if u want to make a mage, make a gnome mage. Gnomes are cool, they have nice racials, they are small (so sometimes hard to see in PvP). The only thing that bugs me about gnomes are their mounts - i hate mech birds.

If you dont want warlock and mage, then definitely priest or druid - they are always in demand for groups and raids.

you should make one of each...play for a couple levels and see how you like it.

oh, and scratch the NE...they are a dime a dozen and...well, they are...alliance *shudder*

go for the horde, love. don't not play the horde just because they are "ugly". my suggestion to you would be to split your choices in half...make 2 on horde, 2 on alliance and just see which one you like best. then pick one as a main and playu that to the ground, and the others are for when you get tired of the main. i do that with my main troll hunter. i have 7 other characters all levels 22-35 that i play pretty reguarly. it keeps the game fresh and in the end helps you against other players since you can use your own playing style to help fight them.

    enjoy.

    Try human warlock.

Its pretty subtle, excellent PVE, you get a nice pet to tank for you. Heck it's the hunter of casters. Very powerful. Free mount. Just don't try to pvp with it, you'll get pwned.

Hunter's another fun class, very easy, basically overpowered till around level 40, you just murder everything by the sixpack.

There's no way to fail at WoW. You can play any class to 60 solo with no problem. The problem comes when you actually GET to 60 and can't find a group. This is why warlocks are good, they are wanted for raids to summon people and to soulstone the priest.

Another druid vote. Havent played them much but have fought with them. Have the most different roles to play. Could b a bear and tank, cat and stealth dps, have a speed form at lvl 30, and are good healers. Seems like a fun class to play too. I play hunter so obviously i would say hunter for great pve especially, with a pet and all, but druids r great 2.
