So Far I played on and off for two days..... My Prowess is now 1.4K.....I still love Darkfall UW and can't wait to log in after this.
I would like to start off by saying there is a learning curve to this game. Controls and UI are hard. Even after two days I still find myself trying to navigate around like Windows trying to right click for sub menus and such, instead you have to use your keyboard and Hot keys for everything, add that you have to close boxes all the time...I hate taking my eyes off the screen so much.
Playing a Skirmisher, I find that you have to change weapons and abilities fast in PvE and I'm sure even more for PvP. Even skinning needs a quick look at your keyboard. Sure, you can use things like mouse scroll or third party key bindings, but none are really that good. Even my Clan talks about the controls being non-user friendly from time to time even in my short two days....It does get better, and this is NOT a game breaker !
What makes the game so good ?....
- RL combat instead of Point and click.
- Smart mobs, you catch them starring at you before they attack ( kind of spooky ). Before you know it they have friends and you find yourself fighting for your life.
- Graphics and music are top notch, but I have everything maxed out.
- It's all about Clans. There not fooling around their serious !....Changing Clans will change your game experiance.
- My Clan....I belong to a very large Clan that is hated by most. They have an Alliance with another clan that makes it even larger. They Raid others stuff every night. They train noobs in PvP often and take no shit. During the afternoon they are fun and lite harted but things change later on. This is both intriguing and intemidating....I'm kind of scared, but loving it !
NOW here is my potential problem....Maybe I should not be looking so far ahead, but I worked hard for 1.4K Prowess. I was on all day yesterday for that. I only had around 800 when my guild told me that I should only be harvesting and crafting until I get 2K. Then I should work on feats and stay in safe zones until at least 6K....As much fun as I'm having, this is a long time !
In research, Good PvP starts around 15 to 20K...Sure you have the food chain thing going on and everyone has to start at the bottom, but this would not be fun none the less. I'm sure their are better ways to manage and speed up Prowess, but 20 K is still 20K.
Soon I'll be back to work, turning me back into a spotty social player.....But for today I'm having fun

I was just ingame. Mornings are great for asking in game questions. Clan members are so helpful on Team speak.
They tell me after the painful low prowess, how much the game rocks !.....I believe them, after lissining in on the battles last night, It feels like you really are back in the middle ages
Someone suggested a better mouse for control ( need a gamming mouse anyway ). I ordered the " Rat mmo 7 " mouse from Newegg $129.

You have to question a game that servers are not stable, if you have a 30v 30 people lag and crash, it's the only MMO where you have to stay away from other players to be able to play at an acceptable level. Then there's the company. There's next to zero end game content that they promised, all the stuff that was supposed to be in at launch got put back. Here's how they are stretching it all out. They will add one ship a month( which gets delayed usually with them). The company are a joke, and it's really unfortunate because the concept is great. As there's no endgame content you have people begging on the forum for people to do prearranged lag fests(bare in mind 30 v 30 in UW causes a lagfest) . ]]/whenever the rough time of resubbing comes around they come up with some garbage. Here's an example https://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?369141-Update-May-15th-Scheduled-Content-Updates
Update Schedule that they just made, and that they are already over a month behind on.

Awaiting Darkfall Unholy Wars
That crash bug was already fixed. Time to find something new to cling on.
Ill cling to this - I played one day and quit for this reason.
Unless they've massively overhauled the UI - it might be one of the few that makes Wushu's UI look and act intuitively.
Specifically the chat - with no exaggeration EQ and UO had better chat functionality at their launches in the 90's.
I like the concept of DF and can excuse some instability , but I'm not giving them a pass on coding in a chat system that looks and functions like something a entry level CIS major worked on in a class period.
Maybe they have redone it completely , if not then its a joke even more so.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. The controls will become second nature after some time. I'm at 13k prowess, been playing for about a month more casually than I would like to (free time has been going to wedding planning and my 2nd income-poker).
Don't sweat the prowess to be viable; all that time in the safe zone grind will get you better at combat and controls, which will help immensely when you get into PvP. I just had my first kill the other night, and I have been able to get away as a skirm from a group of 2 trying to pk me.
The grind can be a bitch with gathering and crafting... a lot of time waiting on timers or nodes to run dry. Besides that I am enjoying the heck out of the game. Need to get in a guild though, as that is the major draw of the game and an aspect I've been really looking forward to. I'm just not looking forward to my fiancée making fun of me when I hop into a TS/mumble
Anyone with a guild recommendation please send me a PM. Looking for a good group that won't drop me for playin too casual.

Let me guess...imperium.
Heaven forbid someone makes a mmorpg with a UI that looks different.
Might take more than one day to learn the ins and outs of it though...once you get use to the UI its quite nice. Community raged for like a week about the new UI and now nothing...and if you know the DF community they never let something go. This means even the slowest of learners were able to figure it out.
So yeah..the UI isn't like what you expect in wow and everquest. If the UI is the largest factor of your enjoyment steer clear of the game. You'll rage quit in one day if you are a slow learner.
It's not one that looks different , its one that is designed like shit. Don't try to spin it as "difficult". It's terrible.
Also I noticed you ducked the major point about the chat system is pathetic at best. No real way you can spin how they didnt even try on that one is there ?
I'd say the slow learners are folks who pay for and put up with sub-par and mediocre shit like this. There's zero excuse to give developers charging a box fee and sub to put in systems that are sub par to 90's ones. Why people pay and reward lazy developers like this I dont know.
That was a temporary issue that got fixed.
Sounds about right. I'm in Imperium and man, I cannot stand Ruin.
Between the CONSTANT spam of the chat channels trolling for recruits, and the dickhead leaders who advocate harassing alliance mates... (incident in question happened several times, grouping with real life friends who aren't allied, Ruin comes in, murders my friends, downs me, ganks them, pick me back up, loot my friends, and leave).
Cause yeah, it makes sense to completely destroy your alliance mates so long as you only gank everyone BUT him!
As for the UI, it has a few wonky bits (which windows overrite which windows) but overall its just a matter of learning it.
The inventory system is the weakest part by far. The chat system, as bad as it is, is a massive improvement over the old Darkfall chat. But the rest of the UI is absolutely fine.
And to someone in neither clan: you both suck GSO
But yeah good to see new players finding clans early, its the smart thing to do
Instead of using words like PvP, mmo, video games I would like to talk about what my understanding of what I THINK real life was like just a few hundred years back.
I've been doing Kung Fu in real life for about twenty years. My master instructor ( sifu ) studies Ancient China and what it was really like even all over the world. Stuff like you would NOT see in history books, not of great people and great lands like the crap they teach you in school, but common life where the earth had maybe one billion people or even less.
People lived in rock piles or any place they could find shelter. Many back woods people didn't even know what a house was. Many spoke their own family language.
Their was no real law, small village had their own type of law if any at all. If you lived in a so called house with a beautiful wife and some land to grow stuff, people wanted it !!!!! ..... As blunt as it sounds they especially wanted your beautiful wife. You had to drop your farming and run as fast as you can beck to your family because off in a distance their are four strange men heading right for it. No cars, horses or dialing 911. If all went well, being crazy would scare them off. If not you were dead.
Now, This is what Darkfall is like to me....Everyone would like to take your stuff or kill you because they don't know what you have. No quest but real life. Crafting your crap and hiding it in the bank is what you do most of the time. Find a few friends and keep an eye on each other. Run too far off, your on your own.
Your new ? .... Well, thats like being a teenager, on your own trying to survive. No family no firends...... you better make some.
This is Darkfall to me. It's not always action, it's not always fun fun stuff. Life is slower but could turn ugly fast....Only 3.5K prowess and trying to harvest just outside the safe zones using my clan as a guide....I hope I live past tomorrow !
Here is a Incognito siege video.

BTW I am not associated with this guild. Just found it in youtube.
After seeing this type of epic battle I can't believe how people pick up the normal MMO :-)

Because Sieges are a subset of activities in a MMORPG.
Can have constant medieval PvP and sieges in multiplayer games like Mount & Blade or AoC. From a MMORPG i expect sandbox content in a full open world, that why i DON'T choose DF for my MMORPG needs.

Believe it or not but this was not a siege. I did not participate in the battle, but I listened in vent as our guild fought on the opposing side. It went down like this. Some of our alliance attacked Alberworth and did a lot of asset damage. A little while later, Incog/Imperium and their allies head to Tiqeya (spelling) and started blowing stuff up in retaliation. Our forces regrouped and consolidated, attacked and retook our alliance city...which is where the video picks up. Wish I was there as it looked like an awesome fight. This took place June 9 (sunday).
