Casual friendly?

Despite all the wow clone posts, the game still looks like it has enough novel features that i would try it out, especially the settler path. I am hoping for a team fortress 2 engineer kinda feel in combat, but whatever.

i was wondering if casual non raider type players might have fun with end game still? Never was much of a raider, esp the 40 man kinds.  I kinda just wanna basically build a small city of my own in the wilderness lol.  But, like everyone else, i like gear and leveling up too.

To clarify there is no city building in the wilderness. Settlers can temporarily imporve areas adding structures, quest npcs and more but no city building.   You can build warplots.

In regards to casual players they plan to devote a lot of content to solo players.  With solo dungeons at max level for them but their focus is on the hardcore 1%.  Lead dev Gaffney said there are enough easy mode MMOs out there we are not making one of those we are making a game for the hardcore.  Which is true every game is dumbed down and stripped of all challenge to satisfy the screaming masses.  Hopefully they can stick to their guns and provide actual challenging content whichwould benefit everyone form hardcore to casuals.

Ah thanks for the clarification. I figured it wouldn't be that open, as it isn't really very sandbox. Still a cool idea to be able to build stuff to assist others. I like the open world and focus on exploring at least. I suppose if it is too hardcore, I'll just go to one of the other "weak mmos" meant for folks like me.

It's actually more combat focused. Only 25-33% of the content is about paths, which is where you get the exploring/lore/building stuff from, for the most part (I think I heard that some of these activities will be part of the regular quests, with paths just giving you the option to open up normally restricted additional content to a specific type).

I'm not much of a raider these days, either.  Settler does look interesting!

Combat is cool, i like killing stuff and people just as much as the nect mmoer, as long as there is other stuff to do in the short bursts of time i have. Raiding is too time consuming for me, but if i can build stuff or do short instance runs or bgs, im pretty easy to amuse.  I do like the idea of having instances doable only if you carry all 4 classes for their specialties, which i heard may be part of the teamwork needed.  Makes it fun knowing that you bring a special and needed role to any 4 man group (rather than tank, heals, dps setup)

From what has been said and presented so far, there will be just as much, casual friendly content, then your next "friendly" mmo out there.  The fact that they intent to maintain a challange level and focus part of their end game on organized raiding and pvp, does not eliminate casual players.  Just as it never did in Vanilla or BC WoW.  You still have solo content, questing, exploring, solo instances; housing that among many other things will have mini dungeons for couple of players, farming of some sort; gathering, crafting and the whole economy around it; path related stuff, no objectives open world pvp, if you happen to enjoy that.

As well as 5men instances, normal and heroic, 20 and 40 men raids, same for Warplots, bgs, arenas.

If they live up to that impressive list of futures, they will be the first mmo in history to launch with all that :p

They seem to be insanely "open" to a wide audience, they do have the budget for it, and they appear to have enough sense to pull it off.  Time will show, but so far, it looks very promissing, regardless what angle you look at things from (PVE, PVP, RP, solo, small group, large group).

I will admit, I have not spent a ton of time looking at the features of this mmo.  I have heard the hype, then I watched a video on it, and I have to say, I am underwhelmed.  I do not see enough that is new and fresh, it seems like a twist on the current formula, that has been used a ton.

I didn't see anything that made me think I had to get this and play it.

Perhaps you are just tired of playing MMORPGs. This game is an MMORPG it's certainly original yet not trying to reinvent the wheel. Think of it this way, they are showing how adventurous they are and their wiliness to try new things so expect new and perhaps innovative content after the launch.

I will also recommend you to understand the lore and watch some dev speak videos and gameplay.
