EQ/Expansion Packs

Hey All, got a question.  I'm new to Everquest or better said I'm thinking of being new image.  Anyways I was wondering do I need all the expansion packs in order to play Everquest?  Or everquest classic is enough to play? I wouldnt just buy EQ classic since at Compusa they got the Everquest Trilogy for $20
EverQuest® Classic game
EverQuest®: The Ruins of Kunark™ Expansion Pack
EverQuest®: The Scars of Velious™ Expansion Pack

and I plan on buying also Shadows of the Luclin Expansion Pack.

Also I'm on dial up so I'm not sure if its even a good idea for me to get everquest since I just bought endless ages and I cant play on dial up, I kkep getting disconnected for the game server.

I know I posted this on the Everquest forum as well but I just thought I might get an answer quicker.  Thanx for any info.

first off if you run on dial up than your worse off than me (i run on LAN connected to comp. with cable)And second off barely anyone plays on the old zones they all in new zones in newer expansions. You would probably lag off or lag soo bad in newer zones such as bazaar and PoK that it wouldn't be worth it.

    that just my two cents.

Put all the settings to low ,that way you should greatly reduce your lag.

It is playable on dial up and many do.Heck some people play SWG on dial up ,so EQ is less detail and should handle it (i used to play dial up when i started EQ).

Erm always a good idea to get as many expansions as possible because you might join a guild in future and want to raid with them.

Also you must remember EQ is a grouping game and  groups are always easier to find on new lands.

Electronic boutique is selling all the expansions but the very latest one as a set called everquest:evolution for 29.99 just 10 dollars more and you get an additional 2 expansions.

Good luck in EQ I had good fun when I was there.

Okay after a bit of research if you buy EQ now, your best bet is to go for EQ evolution.   This contains the original EQ and 5 of the expansions.   It appears to be $29.99 probably with your first month of online free.

I played on dial-up through all of these expansions.  You will have do as suggested above and turn all your settings to low, but it is doable.  Funny when I got cable and my new awesome computer, I was bored of EQ.  Lol... anyway have a look at the site below and good luck in your choice.

You would be better off getting the latest released box set otherwise you are looking at days of download patching probably if you only go with the trilogy.

because on cable, inever had any lag...

Guess I'll buy EQ:Evolution(didnt know taht had the expansions).  See thing was I saw on compusa they had the EQ:SoL for $5 and EQ:trilogy for 20 so I thought it was a good deal but yeah EQ:Evolution much better deal thanx guys.

Make sure you've checked all the other mmorpg's before you get evolutions to make sure that game suits you the best.

I played EQ on dial up for 4 years and had no problems at all other then the rare occasion when there was some kind of net problem and everyone was lagging.

I often found myself with less lag then some of my friends who play on DSL and cable and think your location and what routers you pass through or other tech stuff I dont understand affects you as much as your connection speed.

The only time DSL or Cable seemed that much better was when I was patching and had to wait much much longer then those with faster connections.  If you have the option, I would play broadband, but with a good computer and a nice 56k connection EQ worked pretty much flawless for me.

  • SerienSerien Member CommonPosts: 8,460

what Misti is basically saying is that with older mmo's..you wont lag

because they have been out for a long time, and they are very stableimage

  • RleabRleab Member Posts: 30

    Misti said it basiclyimage

forgot one thing though dsl/cable load between zones faster(In a lot of cases not all though)...but thats not a problem if you can wait 12 seconds to a minute longer(depending on zone...like zoning into bazaar takes longer) hehehimage

EDIT:Go with flem i would give you advise but i haven't played for a year so i'll be a semi-newbie when i get back on.

Thanx for the offer flem if once I do finish the updates I'll be sure to look you up.

Hey MurtBijani is your offer for real?  I dont want to keep it I just want to try it out before I use the CD key that came with my game and waste the free month if I cant connect  using dial up.  If you got AIM send me a PM to HuascarLH if you dont just post message here on how I can get in contact with you.  Laterz
