To start I want to talk about why I'm interested in this game. I'm a big GW2 fan and for the most part don't care much about "standard" mmos these days. With FF there are two reasons why I am interested. One is that it is FF. I'm a fan of the series and everything that comes with it. I LOVE the music, sound effects and general look and fell of FF games. I love the class system and all the jobs in the FF universe. So in that regard it's nostalgic. Second I expect this game to be a bit more old school. Make it hard to go solo everything and throw away some of the newest "easy-peachy" ideas that modern mmos have. This is more of a wish than a fact, but we will see.
Now we can talk about the game. To start the game looks and runs great. 1.0 did as well though so I expected no less. Right off the bat the game is way more interesting(and polished) than 1.0 was. There is some hand holding that goes on but nothing like in most mmos. They don't drive you by the nose from one point to another and you are basically pointed in a general direction and let loose. This I really enjoyed.
Combat is sub-par but passable. Regular tab-target combat but at least the animations are good and it's responsive with some interesting quirks early on. Still I was able to blast through the beginning with just one hand and even watching tv at times, which is a bit disappointing. I hope it gets at least more dangerous to do this later in the game.
The class/job and attributes system seems open, which I love(for a pve game). Still it was to early too see just how open it is and whether it will not wind down to simple pre-selected paths later down the road.
I didn't try any crafting so I cannot speak about it and there wasn't any pvp(I hope there just remove it from the game and focus on pve). Overall it was a very good experience and even though I was technically grinding away it never felt like a grind. I believe a game succeeds when you don't focus on what the game is doing right/wrong when playing it and you just play it, FF 14 did that for me. I expect to play more in the next phases of beta and hopefully keep liking it enough to get it.
TLDR: Pretty good from what I have seen so far.

I understand it's not a review, it's in the same vain though but definately not a full review. I thought it would be better there than in General Discussion. As far as the "personal opinion" goes, what are reviews if not personal opinions and subjective views.
A review IS an opinion piece, sorry you don't agree with him, I don't either. He has a right to his opinion and his review.
What was your take on the game? have you been able to play it?
