To begin with this is my first post on these forums so hello to everyone reading this.
I've seen a lot of discussions on these forums about how games should cater for the various ways in which people play mmorpgs, hard core vs casual, solo vs group play. I think one way to overcome this could be for the different servers / shards to have different settings that appeal to the various players, for example you could have a casual server and a seperate hard core server were the monster are tougher and drops are rarer. A solo server might have mobs with smaller agro ranges and less inclination to help there friends than a server targetted at group players.
Obviously this wouldn't work on a single shard world but in a game wth lots of servers such as WoW or EQ I think this is certainly worth thinking about and I would be interested to hear other peoples views on this.
P.S. Apologies if this has been discussed before but I've never seen it mentioned on here before.

Everyone would flock to the easy servers because they don't know what's better for them. It's like those people that buy a new computer game then find all the cheats for it get to the end in a few days then a week or two later they buy a new game. People who play the game it was meant to be played though can enjoy it for a long time.
Oh and hello.
Hmmm, different servers for different play style typs. This has been discussed b4 in a thread i made, but about pvp not play type. That may work, but like luna said, people would go for the easy server to get good items and not die. Also how would instances, which is a group orientated type of thing work in a solo playing world. They would have no one doing the instances, and if you wanted to do the higher level instances that need upward of 40 players to get better items, you would never be able to get a group. To get epic items, you would have to farm at like Tyrs hand or sumthing ( i think thats the place). So as a whole, thats a good idea. im afraid it just wont work.
Oh btw hey welcome to MMORPG.com
Am I ever wrong??
Hi Luna, this is very likely true but as you said they aren't likely to be around for very long.
Hi Mike. You make some good points here and I cant imagine implementing this would be easy for anyone attempting to do so, still I have a few ideas on you could go about this.
In any mmorpg I've played the high level content has always required a group or raid effort to get, in my idea of a 'solo' server this would still be the case as to make everything available to the solo player without ever having to group, and do this on a seperate server would require a lot of extra work on the part of the devs which I cant see happening to be honest. I was thinking more along the lines of making the day-to-day content more solo friendly and I think this could be done by adjusting the stats on the mobs to make them easier to solo, reducing the frequency of mobs, making it easier for players to rez / heal themselves (by making potions available for this of thing for example), I'm sure there is other things that could be done as well with just a little tweaking rather than a complete overhall.
I don't think a server where people only solo and dont really communicate with other players would work, I was thinking more along the lines of a server that was more amenable to players who like to solo more often than not.
