New Game, New Rig

wle831wle831 Member Posts: 5

So Since EQ next is finally on the horizion (6-8 months away most likely),

Its time to update the old rig to really crank those settings up to max and really lose myself in the retelling of the best MMO to ever grace the planet (my opinion, /flame off).

Im building this bad boy from scratch, this will be my 4th rig built, starting with the chasis (case).

Gonna go with AMD FX 8350 (8 core, 4.0ghz, unlocked) over clock to about 4.5 or so

changed to: a custom Water cooling loop with two 240mm radiators

changed to: EVGA GTX 780 Hydro Copper

ROG Gamer MOBO (Looking at Crossfire V) Really enjoyed these type of boards in the past.

Fastest SSD Drive for EQnext and Operating System

16gb RAM (or do I really need 32?) Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz OC (about 10%)

and last but not least a 800w PSU by Corsair (GS800 Model)

I'll be running this setup to my 46 inch LED TV through HDMI (possibly Dual 24-27 inch moniters)

What are you guys doing to help deal with the wait?

who all is gonna purchase the collection edition ASAP?

    why an amd processor?

You are better off getting a 660ti and better PSU then perhaps going SLi at a later date, those 650ti are not all that. Another option is the AX7870 which give you 7950 performance overclocked and a very powerful single card set up.

    Forget 650ti's imo.

650 ti turbo 2gb is good enough for a budget build.

Here's a decent site if you're looking to upgrade: http://www.logicalincrements.com/

I agree, perhaps he should take a look at this.

Yeah but he is talking about SLi, whats the point of going SLi and spending $320 when you can get a single unit set up which is better?

Yeah, I noticed that after, getting 1 good card would be a better option.

seems rather strange build, one you should not get yet, if you are upgrading for eq next, wait for its release, by that time new generation of cards , at least from amd will come out, dont forget amd runs on both consoles , so does 8 cores amd processors,  while that might be smart upgrade for future, it isnt now, nor are 650ti, are you building pc for only one game for 1-2 years, then go for it, and thats considering your 650ti gona run eq next at max settings, let alone on 27 monitor, it will not run any game at 1400p, i know because i am planing getting 770gtx, and i know it wont run half the games on max at 1400p, with sli it will, but because of new consoles and god knows how performance will shift, i might just wait bit more

ye horrible wall of text with lots of typos, too lazy to fix it

Yup considering not all games support sli setups and some may perform worse with sli running so it would end up using a single card anyway..

My recommendation is that you at least wait to hear a release date or access to beta.

I would not go dual card, get a solid single card and you will be fine. I would get a 7950 and there is no MMO out there you cannot max out. I am running my games on this card on a 1440 display with no issues.

I respect AMD, but i would suggest you go with a i5 3350P ($180 on new egg).  It is a superior processor and will run as good as an overclocked 8350, while using much less power (less heat as well).  You will not need watercooling for this cpu.  if you want to OC then get the i5 3570k for 219, you will not regret it.  this will save you a bit of money, and like most people say i would suggest a single GPU.  A 7950 will run less than the 2 650s and will most likely outperform the pair in most titles.  and its a bit cheaper, they are on newegg for 280 - 300

You shouldn't upgrade your PC unless the game has a release date. No one knows when it will release, and you're just wasting your money until then. It might not release this year, next year there will be much better hardware.

    My 660TI, 8 core 8350, 27" monitor arrived yesterday. :D

Only problem is the wireless router's on a different truck. :(

Now will ArcheAge or EQ:N arrive first?  Hmm...

Another thing: You don't need 16GB of RAM so 32GB is even more pointless. Games aren't capable of using that much at a time.

Well I'm still research the proper parts to put into the rig, I've changed my GPU choice to the new EVGA GTX 780 Hydro copper which will have its own radiator to cool it.

But for now Im keeping the AMD processor. I've done intel for a long time and for 200$ bucks, its not a big deal if it doesnt work out and I have to buy up a new intel chip.

lastly, AMD has come really far in the past year or so and we should be seeing more games optimized for the AMD platforms due to the fact that the new generation of consoles have choosen an AMD chipset.

Thanks for the ideas and bashing =)

i will just upgrade my graphics card and my 4 year old gaming pc will run this like a champ.

just look at the ps2 recommended system settings and you will get an idea of what you will need.
