Anyone remember that? I miss that so much. Now buffs are mostly just a bit of extra fluff to help you win fights. But back then, they were extremely valuable! As a newbie character you could be a god with some of the buffs. I never played a class that could do it much (I played wiz and necro), but I just love the people that did it. And those that did it found MUCH enjoyment and many times, great profit by doing it. SOW, Clarity, Levitate, many of the damage shields and HP and regen buffs, etc.
I hope the devs remember this and incorporate it somehow to make it useful again. It was a friendship-maker for sure.

Not just some random filler buff like in other games. In EQ if you gave someone some of your high level buffs, it really mattered.
There would be periods for days where I'd just roam around the world on my enchanter buffing people and hanging out.
Um i dunno, i didn't play eq. but i played ffxi which aperently very similur. One thing i hated about that game was Power levelers, i was a whitmage, and alot of the lower level groups i was in had some high level spam heals on us and tank the mob.
It caused me to just attack the mob with my club, and the tank couldn't even tank because he/she got yelled at if they pulled the mob off the power leveler.
I miss the fluff buffs. Most games focus on increasing stats without a lot of fun. It's just assumed you will have X Y Z buffs when going into battle that they are almost meaningless.
Buffing up lowbies to make them mini killing machines was great, but getting SOW or Levitate was even better. For a few minutes you could run around all crazy exploring or doing stuff you couldn't normally, at least not as easily.
I hope they bring back Ultravision and lighting playing into the game. But come on, GROW & SHRINK, yes please!
Running around buffing, healing, helping newbies in EQ1 was one of my favorite things to do.
The buffing system in EQ1 was great for its value(the buffs were majorly helpful). But, I'm not a gigantic fan of the timer system it had. If you were a shaman, for instance, you spent half your time recasting buffs and medding to recast some more.
I think there needs to be a nice mixture of EQ1 and EQ2 when it comes to buffing. EQ1 style where you could buff and help people, but with more EQ2 flavor with the concentration system, etc.
There are pros/cons to powerleveling.
Pro: Get to gain power at a higher rate than normal.
Cons: Do not properly learn how to use the specified class, They will bore quicker (on average) from the game. They bypass tons of content that makes for good memories in the game.
Those doing the powerleveling may enjoy what they are doing because they feel they are being helpful to those receiving the help, but in my opinion, they are doing a disservice to those receiving the help an to the community as a whole.
You might have fond memories of helping people out, or being helped... but think about it... are you still playing that game now? How much longer did you stay in the game after being powerleveled or powerleveling some people, and why?
Nope i don't miss it because i play Vanguard which is very similar to EQ where buffs are concerned, levitate, sow, damage shields and everything else you found in EQ are still there. Most of them can be cast on non group members and last for ages or until you log off or an hour.
I see your point, and I don't necessary disagree with it. But if you can recall the early days of EQ, and you have to remember how long it took to level (you didn't get max level in a week), most of the players didn't have the "higher-end" buffs for quite a while. So when leveling in a lowbie zone like Oasis, and then some kind druid sitting at the docks casting SOW on players that wanted it, it was SO helpful! You still had to be careful, but if you got into trouble, you now had the ability to run away if needed. It was also great for travel. If you wanted to get over to Qeynos from Freeport to join your friend that just started playing, you needed either invis, SOW and probably others. Or you needed a port, which would only take you to WK, and you still had to "make" it to Qeynos, which unless you were skilled, you'd die without some buffs to help you out.
My point here, is that it's not "just" for powerleveling. Sure that happened, but it wasn't really what you'd call "powerleveling" unless you had a dedicated person there to buff you on a constant basis.
I wanted to "see it all" when I played EQ, so I can understand what you guys mean when you say it can ruin the experience. But in all honesty, I can't recall feeling like I missed out on any of the content because I was leveling too fast. EQ was SLOW leveling hehe.
Good points! I wish there was a way to bestow minor advantages without it becoming a standard exploit.
I would randomly rez people and I remember being happy to get SOWed by strangers.

Lol, yeah, I miss those days. I can understand why they did away with that system, but it was a mistake. That was one of the best way to make some quick pp, or on the flip side, an awesome way to get a slight edge to get you over whatever hump you were facing.
I agree totally with this. My guild would go to the tree city (Kelethin i think it was called) and we would do all those things. We'd dig out all the stuff from our guild locker and give them as rewards to new players for races or scavenger hunts or what have you. We had a shammy cook that would make up a bunch of stuff and hand it out. Buff the new or low level toons and would do firework shows at night. Some of my fondest memories from EQ. I was a druid and would hand out all the SoW's, Thorns and Skins. Lotsa fun
I think the pro's out weight the cons. I would spend hours in the oasis dishing out buffs to low level people, it was so much fun and people really liked it. People figure out how to powerlevel whether there are buff are not.
And please let there be real weather and night and day, and really dark where you need a light stone or a BUFF:)

Yes, sometimes ita be helpfull in certain situations, but please dont make everyone be able to raise everyone, like another game did.... That was extremly to convinient.
