Been playing a short time and here it is !...My life

page975page975 Member Posts: 312

Been playing for over a week. I'm playing a Skirmisher using a bow and learning how to dodge.

My Prowess is 8.5K and playing it like a mad man ( getting prowess is very slow ).  Everyone including my guild tells me that you should not really leave the safe zone until you have at least 10 K Prowess.  Sure you could venture out now and then to maybe gather some iron thats hard to find in the safe zone but don't stay long.

So when I reach that point to REALLY get out in the real world, my guild will train me and several others on pvp and grouping. This is where I'll find out if I'm any good....I have to practice my quick bow aim and dodging.

Until then this is what my life is like :

Everything you do gives you a very little bit of Prowess. The game is high gathering / crafting. You will be doing a lot of AFK farming materials. Depending on your class you will be gathering more of one type than others. Skirmishers need lots of wood and some iron for Bows, and lots of leather for Armor. Wood you get from trees and leather is best farmed by killing rats in the instanced sewers. I will have to say that you will be doing the same exact thing from 1K to 50 K prowess, so understand their is a lot of reputation. THE GAME IS VERY HARVESTING CRAFTING DEPENDENT.

Sometimes when I'm sick of doing the sewers, I'll do some of the many small encampments that you can kill other stuff to collect weapons and stuff other than leather ( for me I just salvage the stuff or sell to vender's for gold ). Gold you need for crafting, not much else but lots of it.  You buy most things with the prowess you earned.

Other times I'll be practicing my dodge abilities and aiming for PvP by killing PvE stuff, or venturing out of the safe zone to mine gold and finding random chest that gives loot. Tomorrow I'll attempt to catch others off guard just out of the safe zone and get my butt kicked for the experience. It's all ok because I could easily craft anything I have with me in about 10 min. ( just don't bring a lot ).

My Clan is one of the largest in the game, they raid, siege and travel in small groups hunting PvP.  As I'm doing my own stuff, Ill lesson on Voice chat...... Soon I'll be joining them.  My slow painful work should pay off because 10 K is where it starts, I cant be alone but at least I can get out............Yes, I still love it !...........I really think the graphics are great, very detailed. The world is much better than Vanguard and LOTRO. Youtube's suck compared to how Darkfall really looks even on 1080P.

I'll end with this :

Darkfall has a very steep learning curve, Re assigning hot keys to make things just right will have you pulling out your hair at times. It also helps to have a good mouse but after a week or so, it's all good.

I've been playing all day from 6 am until 5 pm. Had to take a break because I couldn't tell the game from reality.

Anyway, Darkfall has a lot of Mid Evil politics going on, at least in the larger clans.  Were stuck at the top since were one of the larger.

Well, apparently last night when we sieged another larger clan that we had an alliance with at some point, they decided to pay our city a visit this afternoon. They knocking down some of our walls...Most of us low prowess players were unaware.  When one of our Sargent's came on, he went nuts...Not on us, just flipped !

Everyone including me had to drop everything, leave the safe zone and head for the city.  We were all put in squads and were ready to fight no matter what our prowess was........Well, by the time we got there all the damage was done, so we had to gather resources to rebuild some of our walls before the Clan leader came on.  Well, the clan leader took it well since we did a good job....BUT I'M SURE THERE IS HELL TO PAY TONIGHT.

Most every clan hates us.....I would not have it any other wayyyyyy.

It really is an amazing game. Incredibly underrated, and absolutely PLAGUED by the worst community I've ever seen. Thankfully the most toxic and terrible members of the community are on the forums, and most people in-game actually enjoy playing it.

And yes, the politics are AWESOME. The whole set up of the map and the different cities and hamlets, each with their own quirks and history is incredible.

I've been thinking about trying this game and reading your post makes it seem so awesome. I might have to give it a shot.

Have played: APB, Global Agenda, Rift, Warhammer, APB reloaded, EVE Online
    Currently playing: Swtor

I have been considering dark fall more and more, keep updating us on your progress please.
  • page975page975 Member Posts: 312

I get it now....I understand the hate....People are trying to play this game like the other 100 mmo's. There are no quest, no fetching Aunt Mary apples for her pie. I've played most every mmo, and it's not like any of them.  Well, maybe EVE, I don't know.

It's self driven, You make your own stories. You spend the afternoons getting ready for that night.

I was two days in.  Someone asked me to join their small guild of six players.  All were new. Their game plan was to figure the game out together.  Learn PvP by them selfs and do small skirmishes....To me this sounded great, but I went with one of the largest anyway. This large clan is very intimidating, they know what there doing.  I'm actually scared, I may suck. Since their is a lot of people, I may be able to fake it until I make it and go un noticed until then. I don't know but i'll find out in a few days.

    The bottom line :

If you don't like what you see, join a different clan.........You will have a different experience, because it's self driven !

After reading this I really want to start playing Unholy Wars.

I played the first Darkfall from the very beginning on the EU server. I can still remember the day I snuck into one of the larger cities & killed King Mannus as he was refining a few thousand lumber that his clan mates had gathered.

I really wish they would still offer the game client for free to everyone who previously bought Darkfall image

prowress gain per action, such as wood chopped, mob killed, item crafted...that's all slow, though it does add up.  You get big pops of prowress as you do said action enough.

For instance, youll get a nice little pop of prowress after harvesting 3000 of any single resource node.  So if you hit each type enough you will get each feat reward.  Each resource node has two rare-ish non resource type material, for those there are feats...then there are essences...which are combined with the raw materials (plus one of those rare-ish things) to make rare crafting materials required for higher end materials...those all have feats.  Also after you kill a mob, and fully loot him(you should loot everything) you can then skin that mob for alchemy materials, all of which have a feat associated with it.  Once you do the easy feats you can work on the hard ones that give massive prowress rewards...some up to 50k.

feats are achievements and prowress is XP.  so each time you hit a milestone you get a chunk of xp depending on how hard it was.  Feats are tiered. So youll get like 2000 prowress for farming 150 of one type of essence, then like 20k for 1500 of them.

I found that once I hit about 10k, getting to 30k took a fraction of the time.  Then getting to 50k wasn't all that hard but I sat at 30kish for a while.  Once I get my high end feats done ill be showered with enough prowress to cap out more than one role.

The beauty of this game is I have a reason to log in when I want to watch tv or do something else while im in my computer room.  I can semi afk resource (sometimes in unsafe areas if you choose a good spot)  So I start hitting a node, tab out, do something else and typically listen for the sound I make to stop before tabbing back and going to another node.

While outside of safezones, harvesting metal can be strangely exhilarating...not because its fun but because you always think you hear footsteps.  Then sometimes you hear a mount coming and don't know if you should run and be seen, or duck and hide in a bush and hope he didn't hear you mining.  Then when you do get jumped, and they typically use crouch to sneak up with little sound on you, it can scare the shit out of you and you lose everything.

once you learn to love that feeling or risk and paranoida its really hard to go back to a game where the greatest penalty for death is a small repair bill and a free port back to your bindstone. it does grow on you.  and when you don't want it, just go harvest in safe zones and deal with the fact that not every node will have stuff in it.

The battles of the game are quite amazing, I just wish the prowess gain wasn't so dreadfully boring.  10K is so little though lol, I had around 30k and I unsubbed three weeks after launch.  The people in my guild must be well over 100K.  Glad your enjoying though OP!

Yeah its one of the games downfalls.  If you are not able to conjure up a reason to farm, or are unable to find friends or clan mates to farm with you, its gets overwhelming.

The thing is, with the old game, there was a lot of unique loot, enchanting materials that were very valuable, and generally speaking more reasons to farm mobs (though there was no prowress system or feats telling you to farm that mob)

hopefully soon they spice that up.

regardless, if you dislike farming mobs, this isn't your game.  Everyone talks about the pvp for this game, realize that this game has a massive PVE game in it, and its really the only way to progress.  Get in a group and when pvp shows up it will make the act of being there farming more exciting...its no fun getting jumped soloing a mob spawn.

There were people who had 100k prowress after two weeks, it can be done, you just need a group of people and need to plan out what mobs yield the greatest prowress reward.  Other than that you can just ignore it for the most part and play the game as you see fit, youll get more than enough prowress after a few weeks and it wont feel as boring...but you still need to enjoy farming mobs imo.

Theres a lot of ways to get prowress, more than just farming mobs.

I don't know a single person who does, hence why I unsubbed.  Its sad that such a great PvP experience is gated behind brainless grinding shenanigans that we were tired of 5 years ago.

Lots do.  Not everyone is a pure pvp arena junky.  I don't mind killing mobs, I think the combat is fun and if im getting something for that kill im all for it.

I can farm gnolls all day long, they drop tons of rawhide, potatoes, rare mats, portal shards, decent gold...all of which I need for crafting and cooking as well as fast travel.  PVP shows up a enough to where it doesn't get too boring, but then I like the combat and like the reward.  I farm them despite I have no more feats left for them, though its easy to find a group of people who do need the feat.

Also I could farm deathless servants for ages, I need spices.

Most sandboxes are like this though.  You farm stuff you need and since its full loot and theres no repairing broken gear...you never have enough.  Top it off with the fact that I can lose everything I have during it, gives it that bit of excitement when I see a mount on the horizon.

Certainly not for everyone, and I agree...theres far too many FPS style pvpers who want nothing to do with anything other than dominating people in pvp.  Its why they had to remove the old progression system where you do something and it skill up, since these guys would macro it and bug mobs out heal and attack it to bypass progression.  This prowress system wasn't even in the early beta and people were afk macroing skills in the early beta...

This game needs more pve'ers who arnt afraid of pvp and less fps style pvp manics.  Community will improve and the game will be more fun imo.

With that said, its really easy to get 75k prowress enough to fully max a combat role and stats.  Theres about two weeks of grind in that if your motivated.  After that you never have to touch pve again...for gear you can just gank people for their mats and gear.

Wont deny its a grind though, and wont deny that this will turn off a lot of pvpers who would otherwise love the game.

While that is true, It doesnt apply to as many as you think.  I Don't mind grinding at all as long as its fun, same with many others that strayed away from this game.  When Guild wars 2 came out I didn't even realize i was getting experience I was just enjoying myself and progressing at the same time.  Sadly the PvP experience of that game is not nearly as good as DFUW, but you get the point.

It became a Job in darkfall unholy wars, at all times.  If you wanted to stay competitive you had to stay with the grind, people were always ahead of me by like 60k prowess and some didn't sleep at certain points. With a Job and other commitments, its not possible for me to do that.

I strongly disagree with being ok with that, as a gamer just because I can't no life doesn't mean when I log on im looking to be a casual and just chill. My time doesn't make me less of a competitive player. It's games like GW2 and league of legends that have been strongly delivering this message to the community.

Its too late in time to be ok with kill 10 X mobs as it is, the industry as a whole is shifting.  While I feel there should be a time sink to invest in your character, as in any RPG, It shouldn't feel like a chore or I mays well subscribe to WoW and go kill 10 plainstriders and then farm my dailies.

I think you severely under estimate the PVE crowd. GW2 fizzled quite fast and is relying on the fact that you don't have to pay them to play to keep the servers busy.  People hate wow for making things dumbed down and easy to accomplish...also take into consideration that its usually the PVE servers that have more players in these games.

So long as you make the pve entertaining theres not a problem with it.  So long as pve is rewarding there is no problem, and they do need to work on this.  Also they could probably break down the feats into smaller chunks.

But cater only to the pve crowd and youll have an empty game with the same 100 cocky and obnoxious people who played 1.0.

If you find RPG games to be a chore, that's a strong indication that you sir are playing the wrong games.  There are plenty medieval fantasy games out there that are not RPG's but more FPS/TPS games. They offer no gind, no progression, just pvp matches. Might want to give those a try.

Also the progression in DFUW is retardedly fast...two weeks of hard play and you never have to touch a pve mob, or a resource node again.  It could use improvements...but lets be realistic here, you might be in the crowd of people who will continually be disappointed with RPG games simply for the fact that you might not realize your playing a game genre you hate.

This is why DFUW loses a lot of pvp purists...they cant stand that theres PVE in the game unless its them killing someone else whos PVEing...game needs less of that and more people who actually enjoy the whole game, like the OP.

You stopped making sense when you said if I find RPG games to be a chore I'm in the wrong genre . I'm simply stating that progressing is DFUW is not fun and comes out to be a chore. Kill 150 of this mob is the biggest lack of innovation, in addition to being extremely boring . Had it been kill 5 monsters and those 5 provide an epic battle, it would be different but that's not the case.

You claim there needs to be more people that enjoy the whole game, but what is there to look forward to in literally the most dried out pve system in mmo history. Tldr it's the game not the player base.

If you are getting bored grinding prowess then just STOP GRINGDING IT. You had 30k prowess. You didn't have to grind it anymore as the difference between you and a 150k prowess player was so small in terms of power that, if you were equally skilled, you would still have great chance of beating that player if he messed up.

OP, here is a suggestion for you (I know this Will cause qq from elite players). Take a One day break. Make 5 sets of  padded armor and place it in the bank. Take a mount and ride out With R10 armor and bind to a stone outside safe zone. Do what we call naked run where if you get ganked you lose nothing. Let the sandbox nature of this game entertain you. You may come across chaos, chest, players grave, gank squd, or even jump on some one on mob or afk. My point is take a well deserve vacation and experiment.  Also most ppl are bad in pvp so dont worry too much about training

This is a great Idea, I'm working on the mats now to craft 5 full bags. This should give me 5 good fights or more if I win any of them. I would like to venture north. A few days ago I made my way far off, and things got less populated with players and the world is so nice to see all the things.

I could really use some chest with a lot of gold, that is my downfall...Money !

Found this video someone posted in the DF forum.

Its mostly a naked causing some serious trouble !

Good luck in your adventure.  As for money kill those rats in the city sewer and spend more time skinning than looting.  You can easily sell 1000 raw hide for 8000 ~ 10000 gold.  You get the picture :-)

i have been playing original DF for 3,5 years and  was subbed to DF:UW for the first month ( and Beta)  and its difficult for me to undersrtand how you get excited over sucgh a shallow designed game. Probably honeymoon that will wear out in a month...

You sound like you missed any good MMORPG experience from the past  golden age of MMOPRG's...

This, plus the complaint about harvesting + pve grind. MMORPGs in general are becoming for me a dead, pointless genre. People who play any MMOs usually have too much free time and don't value it as anyone else.

My Clan is large and at times hardcore, but they are very noob friendly, they even have a noob channel in Teamspeak, one for asking stupid questions and another for higher players to train noobs in many ways.

I have almost 11 K prowess, thats still low.  Last night we went fishing on an advanced players boat. I know what your thinking "fishing ?"....That sucks !.............Well, anything but.  We all had to watch the shore line for chest and players . If we see anyone were to jump off an attack them, we had some good battles only for me to get ganked and I lost everything . I should have stoped when I was ahead.  Even lost a map and my mount.

I hope we can go fishing tonight ( its not about fishing ).

Its a way of life not just a game, kind of like what mmos used to be !

What clan is this? Ruin? Many new players can benefit from a newbie friendly clan. Share the treasure.
